hi all,

i noticed that around 50-60 mph my steering vibrates/wobbles. i took it into kwikfit and asked him to balance the wheels. he said to me to come back once i've got it confirmed that the wishbone is fine and the ball joints. is he just turning me away, or is it a genuine tip. also, can i do this myself? if so, how, or do i need to get a garage to look at it. problem is, a garage may say yes the ball joints are shot, and i wouldn't know if that was true or not!

many thanks

finest1 :)

last time i went to kwikfit the lad balanced my tyres on my old peugeot gave me the bill, fair enough i thought as soon as i started driving it was worse than ever it felt as if the car was falling apart from under me.so i took it to ats and the wheels were so out of balance the bloke couldnt believe it but he sorted it and gave me a sort of print out which i took backto kwikfit the same day and kicked off at the manager and fair enough he refunded my money and gave me a free brake and winter check.go somewhere else and get it done properly

KwikFit give free brake and free winter check anyway. I take it you used the one on Foleshill Road?

I have used the Nuneaton branch for several years and found them excellent. I started using Nuneaton branch because of the very shoddy service at Coventry. I think a lot depends on the manager and how he trains/treats his staff but I have never had anything but excellent service from the Nuneaton branch.

Anywhere that uses the Huweka mounting method (by the stud holes) not the centre hole.

See above post.

Mate - take it to wim - it's worth the journey. They have the best kit and most importantly you can trust Tony et al. to fix the problem (or if they can't - not to fob you off with excuses to make you go away)

Is it wheel dependent, or more a wheel defect dependent? I have had mine balanced without problems at kwikfit in Derby and also Speedies in Derby. Just wondered why balancing seems to be a problem on some cars but not others?

Non OEM wheels are more prone to problems..... Point to remember the centre hole is "cosmetically central".
