Who To Goto Get Lpg Conversion In London Area & Which To Get?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys & gals want to convert my LS400 to LPG. I called the chap that Haylands recommended but unfortunately the distance to get to Hull would mean that the price would be the same as getting it done locally.

I rang round the approved fitters listed on the LPGA website and they actually confused me more. I have been told that the 2 best systems for my car is the Prins and the BRC. This is where it gets interesting as some say that the new BRC Plug & Drive system is much better than the Prins system but then others say that its the other way round. Then one company even said they wouldnt touch either system with a barge pole as they are far too complicated.

Then they said they would fit the flash lube kit for free but then a few guys said that that is a fallacy and wouldn't need to be fitted at all. Is this true?

The next option to choose would be the tank size and whether to get a 4 hole or single hole. One chap said that they make no difference as both pipes are 8mm thick and that they would fill at the same rate. Is this True?

The prices ranged from £1657 +vat to £2200 + vat.

I'm leaning toward a company called Herts Autogas but was wondering if anyone has used them before? Is there any recommendations for anyone else? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hope i haven't rambling too much..

Hi

You can run the 400 very well on a single point system, there really is no need to spend extra on a fully sequential injection system for an engine that isn't fully sequential in the first place.....

The 400 doesn't need a flashlube kit, if a company are trying to fit one then they are doing it because they lack the skill to do the job properly and are using it as an insurance, they will just say that you let it run out of flashlube when problems start.... so stay away from anyone wanting to fit one especially for free..... (the straight 6 Lexus engine is the only one that needs a flashlube)

A single hole tank uses 8mm copper to the filler, a four hole tank uses a massive reinforced rubber hose of about 30mm to the filler, they are substantially quicker to fill.... like 5 times quicker..... (both feed pipes to the engine are 8mm copper (sometimes plastic nowadays) this is maybe what they mean but it doesn't affect fill time)

Never heard of Herts Autogas, but then I wouldn’t living up here.... ask them for some references, and check them, they will not mind, it happens all the time.

Phone the LPGA and ask for a local fitter to you....

Good Luck

Pete

P.S. You could always buy mine..... have a look in cars for sale....

Hi Jackdaniels

Just had my LS 400 fitted with BRC LPG and i'm not over impressed (With Flashlube fitted) paid £1900 got a smaller doughnut fitted 75l than the 95l requested! i travel to France every month, but this smaller gas tank does not allow me to get to the ferry port of Portsmouth from Thirsk, N, YORKS APPROX 300miles, i feel i'm getting less mileage than petrol, but i've not done the calcs yet to prove or disprove this theory. When i do i will advise.

When i filled the LPG 75Litres @ 57p per litre=£42.75 i got 181 miles = 2.41miles per ltr = terrifying!

no advice on petrol yet.

Errrr

If my maths is right thats less than 10mpg......

Don't forget you can only get 80% fill on a tank so a 95ltr tank will hold 76ltrs maximum.....

Is it single point or injection???

Pete

Alan Ponting LPG 07833398695. Just outside Cambridge - closer than Hull or Wales.

An all round decent guy, and I have watched him work, meticulous detail and no nonsense

Tell him Chris with the LS400 and LPG VW camper sent you.

If you are South of the river, or prepared to travel an hour out of London, then Medway Dual Fuel should be pretty good. I'm not sure about their installations but they are always very busy and have been very helpful in sorting out my dualfuel Xantia. One of their guys recently sold his LS400 on the bay of fleas recently - had I known he was selling it, I would have bought it instead of the factory-fitted French money-pit I did buy :crybaby:

If you are thinking of it sooner is better than later, as the price of kits will go up due to the weak pound against the euro, also you will start saving money sooner.

I have a brc plug and drive kit on my ls400 vvti as this model is full sequential, unlike the pre 98 models, I am very happy with it, its working out at 11p a mile mostly town driving,

I cant say how reliable the brc system will be , but I have been informed that it is one of the best systems & most suited to the ls400 vvti lump.

There is a lpg discusion forum ( google it ) a lot of usefull info on that.

ta & good luck Mark

Well finally booked my car in for mid September. Went for the Prins kit in the end and managed to get it down from £2127 to £2000 inc installation and they take a week to fit which i thought was quite good as they seem to be very professional with the installations that they showed me in the garage.

Is there anything that i need to ask to get done or to double check that fit it to my car before they start?

Thanks
