Rx300 Mk1 Average Mpg

Recommended Posts

This weather isn't really conducive for 'economy' especially on a normally aspirated engine. I think what you are getting is about right for a 3L V6 in town and in these conditions. Our Facelifted RX got as low as that sometimes, but generally it was around 22MPG all other times.

As ihjp says I'ts a 3Ltr V6 auto, pulling a couple of tons around, it was never built for economy. The yanks love 'em 'cos of the cheap fuel over there.

You don't really buy petrol V6 motors thinking they are going to be frugal!

You know that you and your local petrol station guy are going to be swapping Christmas cards :whistling:

I know it a 3.0l V6 pulling a big unit , but ive been REALLY carefull with the right foot. Ive down grading in cost of car and got more space , before the RX i had a 07 plate Audi S3 , and i give it some stick and still returned 22mpg , granted it was only a 2.0l turbo , but remapped to 320 bhp and i wasn't afraid to use it!

Have had a Mk1 RX for 6 years from new; has done 62K; 70% of journeys are 10 miles or less; have never re-set the average fuel consumption display, so over the full 62K it shows average mpg of 23.9. Certainly, on long runs, motorways etc at 70mph or under, it displays up to 28mpg.

Of course, the computer may be inaccurate, but over all those miles and years it must surely give a reasonable representation of what's happening.

I do check the "Since Refuelling" display, and on 2 occasions that has alerted me to a problem when the mpg for the last tankful (or last few) was significantly lower than overall average. Once it was a faulty oxygen sensor; and a few months ago it was because of a binding brake.

I have a 51 plate Mk 1 RX 300 with 86k. I have had this for a little over 2 years and put 30k on it myself.

Usual mpg is 21 - 22 around town and 28 on a run.

Over 1000 miles of towing a fairly lumpy caravan (1300 kg) i managed 19 - 20 mpg, this was mostly on motorways.

I have fitted a K&N lifetime air filter and this has helped a little.

I've had my mark 1 since july, local journeys about the same as you. but on a decent run with cruise on at 70 set by my road angel figuire about 75ish on the clock I get 28-29, towing my tin snail, 22-23. I didn't by the RX for economy, I bought it 'ecause I wanted it, 'cause it was a LEXUS.

You were lucky with the audi, on the few occasion I was allowed to play in my cousin's scooby STI W1, special edition 320bhp out the box, I was getting low teens, even driving sensibly my cousin was lucky to crack 25.

When I had my IS200 my fuel consumption in that wasn't much better than my RX.
