Transmission And 1mz-fe Engine

Recommended Posts

Can someone who knows help me out here.

I have read numerous artciles describing how the RX300 1MZ-Fe 3.0 engine has been used in Toyota MR2 conversions and 'bolted' to MR2 transmissions.

This makes me wonder can the newer RX300 (03 onwards) 5 speed autos be mated with the earlier 1MZ-FE engine and would this require other mods (like ECU) and....

Looks like I need a new transmission and would prefer to upgrade if I have to spend my hard earned cash, so all help gratefully received.

Would transmissions from the Harrier (Tiptronic) and Camry or other Toyota Lexus Family range be workable options?

I believe this would be difficult. The engine ECU also controls the transmission so you would need a new ECU. The problem with a new ECU is it would expect an electronic throttle which the series I doesn't have.

A 3.0l Camry transaxle isn't 4WD but possible could be made to work it would have to be the same 4 speed design the same as the series I RX.
