Hi guys - just wondering if I were to pull apart the engine (carefully :shifty: ) would it be possible to tell if my piston rings are worn or if there are an other telltale signs of wear and tear in that department?

if your stripping the engine to check the rings you might as well replace them.tell tale signs are well blue smoke ,loss of power ,cylinders being down on compression and in extreme cases oily plugs.

hope that helps dude.

yes if you have a general idea on how a engine works and how to take one to bits then yes ,might be easyer to remove the engine if not then remove the head remove the sump remove the big ends and knock the piston up but remember you will need a piston ring compresser.each ring(3 per piston)has a split in it these must not line up!!

heres some pics of me replacing piston rings.
