Ls400 Speedo/rev Counter Faults

I have had my LS400 (1997) since new and can honestly say I have nver had a problem with it.

However, in the last month the speedo and tachometer have developed an intermittant fault. When first switched on, sometimes they both stay at zero, and then after a few miles, they spring into life and act normally. Then on some days only the tacho works. Other days only the speedo works. after a few weeks of this, they both appear normal again, except the speedo needle illumination (on the actual needle itself) is only half lit. everything else, including all the other gauges is perfect.

anyone come across this before?

I now live in Tenerife and Lexus dealers here are few and far between and very, very expensive. Quite upto the job of removing and replacing dashboards etc, but I'd love to know if any memebers have come across this before.
