Don't you just love it when your neighbor recognizes a good car !

Fellow neighbors at the top of my road have purchased a very smart 2004 SE, can't help but feel like my IS may have influenced their decision :D

Has anyone else experienced this?

It a lovely warm feeling !

No, my neighbours all have “different tastes”

only 6 houses on my street, 4 different convertibles, two Lexs of mine and a 40K done-up VXR and some other funny ones

Our estate is like any other one in the UK (plenty of BMW's, Merc's, Audi's- majority of these are probably company cars). We've also got plenty of Mondeo's, Vectra's, Astra's etc, again the newer ones are probably company cars- only the one Lexus on our estate, mine (and its one of the oldest cars on my estate).

May be one of the oldest Kam, but it's "THE BEST"!!!!

You should try telling that to my neighbour- he often likes to remind me that my 9.5 year old/trouble free IS200 is now a banger. This chap has a 03 plate Merc C220CDI with rusted wheel arches, door bottoms and bootlid. It chucks out black smoke like there's no tomorrow (ok its a diesel, but it really likes to chuck out the black stuff!)

Last week my neighbour told me that the diesel pump failed on his Merc- I quickly took this opportunity to remind who has a more reliable car now. Lexus is a posh Toyota to him (and he has been a right :tsktsk: during all this faulty accelerator pedal issue that has been on the news).

Well it should be worth reminding him that no EU Lexus's have had a problem with sticking parts etc, only American Lexus's have issues. Furthermore Merc build quality is equal to budget price bread, there isn't enough time in the day to mention all the Merc re-calls lol

Glad your still fighting our corner strong Kam ! :winky:

Perhaps we should have a meet on your estate ? lol

Hoping to get the neighbors to join on here soon :)

Hi yes kam05 don't take any stick from a Merc owner :D the quality has improved now but 01-06 it was very poor.My daughter has a C180K ( I tried to get her to buy a Lexus but somthing about wrong badge ) I,m an engineer and do all the family servicing and repairs and belive me they are not easy and get more than their fair share of eletrical faults and even routine maintenance is not easy ( no oil drain plug for starters ) labour charge/hr at least the same as Lexus without the customer service

Don't worry, I have no intention of taking any :tsktsk: of a Merc/BMW/Audi owner. People that drive these cars live in the past- 70's/80's Mercs were the best cars ever made, my grandad used to have a W123 series estate when I was a kid (in the 80's)- that was one reliable workhorse.

I also do a lot of basic servicing on my car myself, such as oil changes, brakes etc (I'm in the IT trade, so I'm no mechanic). I find the IS200 a easy car to work on.

Ormi - that must be such a good feeling, knowing that you've influenced so many people on their choice of car. I think the thing i like is, not many people have seen inside one before, so they're always keen to come out and have a look, whereas Mr BMw, Merc etc they just go "oh yeah i know them" politley. lol

Kam, i couldnt agree more, old merc's were bulletproof and were very stylish at the time, but now i fail to see how anyone can drive one without feeling like a retired pornstar, who didnt quite make hardcore. lol ( sorry any merc owners - nothing personal........ erm )
