Hand Pump To Fill Gearbox?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a cheap hand pump to fill the IS200 gearbox? I take it that something like the Draper 43904 Syphon Pump will not pump up to a higher level but only start a syphon operation down to a lower level.

Thanks to all.

Hi, I used the Hilka oil suction gun on E bay item 350288216682 £5.99 + pp good item worked well for me ,

One point I found is you need a ring spanner for the level /filling plug as there is not enough clearance for a socket 24 m/m from memory

hope this helps

Thanks for the recommendation true blue, I will have a look at this item. I saw the limited clearance for the level plug in a photograph but had forgotten about it - I will need a ring spanner as well!

Those suction guns work well & yes you will need a 24mm ring spanner to get to the filler plug.

Out of interest what oil are you using? I hope it's no higher than a GL4 75w90. I'm running Redline MT-90 in mine & can't recommend it highly enough.

Thanks to all for the recommendations. I was wanting to move up from the squeezy bottles I have used in the past and have decided to invest in a Hilka suction pump.

I was in fact intending to use Redline MT-90 - I have an MX5 to do at the same time so just needing to work out the total quantity needed for both gearboxes and back-axles and then look around for the best price delivered. Expensive stuff and not very many stockists! May wait for one of the free delivery opportunities from Opie Oils.

Redline is a little pricey but well worth it IMO plus there's not a lot else that's GL4 in 75w90. The only other one I've found is made by Amsoil. You'll need 1.95L for the gearbox & 1L for the diff in the IS. Diff oil only has to be GL5 80w90 although I'm running 80w140 fully synthetic in my factory LSD for a little extra high temp protection.
