Detailing Help Needed!

HI ALL,

NEED POINTING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IN REGARDS TO CAR detailing. I HAVE A GREEN LEXUS IS200 WHICH HAS GOT REALLY BAD SWIRL MARKS AND LIGHT SCRATCHES, JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT PROCESS AND PRODUCTS ARE NEEDED TO GET THE CAR IN TIP TOP SHAPE.

i had a green is200 - got scratched by footballs and car doors - used meguirs 3 stage stuff from Halfords,also megs swirl and scratch remover - looked like a different car and sold for a good price too

Meguiars 3 stage is a very good quick fix, as aer things like black hole etc. they actually use polymers to fill in the scratches and swirls giving the effect they have disappeared. The only real way to remove them is via machine polishing.

Prevention is also better than cure, so learning a good washing technique to prevent the swirl marks is always a winner.

Basic rules:

No sponges - use a microfibre wash mitt.

Use 2 buckets - one for wash solution, one to rinse you fibre out

Dont use circular motions top clean - left to right

dont press down on the car - you should pre rinse to remove most of the muck, shampoo conditioner should then help your microfibre glide across the car.

Dont use microfibre towels to wash - the pile is not deep enough.

As autogloss has already said, the only way to actually get rid of them is to use a rotary/orbital polisher with some proper cutting polish. If you do this yourself you can expect to spend a good 10hrs+ removing the swirls.

However, if you're after a fairly quick fix, something like Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Poor Boys Black Hole will mask them up. Then all you need to do is apply some good wax to make it last.
