Water Damage

hello,

I am new to this forum.

I am considering purchasing a 2007 SC430 which has been salvaged.

The car suffered from a minor flood and as such has water marking to the rear seats squabs and the seat motors do not operate.

Any tips or advice on repairs etc would be most welcome.

The rest of the car is ok and the vehicle has a VIC certificate and MOT

Many thanks

Hi

We are Jaguar Specialists here in sunny Somerset. We made the mistake of buying a low level flood damaged Jag.....Never again.....

The biggest problems will be with the wiring. The ECU's demand micro volt accuracy to operate as designed so any deviation due to corrosion or damp wil upset this. The problem with this is that it can occur many months after the vehicle has been re assembled.

You will have no warranty or goodwill with Lexus due to the nature of the damage. The seller on E-Bay is chancing his arm and in my opinion wants far to much for a vehicle that has been an insurance total loss ( For whatever reason ). Don't forget at some time you may wish to sell this car and I think you will find your market severely limited.

Fault finding on a modern car will generally necessitate the use of a dedicated computer, if only Lexus have them you can only imagine the cost's involved in the on going problems.

I hope this helps.

Good luck

Terry

I've got to agree, you can fairly easily remedy the cosmetic damage but electrical problems are something else, copper wiring turns to a green powder when water damaged and it's no good looking at just the cable plugs as the water enters the looms by capilary action which cannot be seen.

Problems can take months to show.

The insurers have written it off as a cat C obviously aware of the cost of parts from Lexus and potential future problems.

Looking at the pictures it went above the seat squabs and halfway up the seat backs,so who knows if it reached the dash electronics.

IMHO it's too much money for too much hassle, spend the same and get a good one

Just for interest
