Is200 - Replacing Headunit

Recommended Posts

I've started to look at the problems with replacing the headunit in my IS200. I've got a single din converter from SQPlus and bought the AutoLeads wiring harness. Unfortunately the wiring harness does not fit. Here are the pictures so you can all see the problem - if you have an old IS like mine then don't bother with the wiring harness - it is for the new style wiring of the IS and will not fit the old car.

I have followed the wiring for the car and the large connector on the left of the amp has got all speakers, and power connections that are required for a regular DIN style connector but unfortunately I cannot find a harness that will fit it.

Does anyone know where I can get a large socket like the one of the left of the amp so I can make my own wiring harness? I couldn't find anything on Maplin or RS but don't know the name of that type of socket / plug - any ideas?

I want to get the headunit done tomorrow so if I can't find a plug the one on the amp is coming off :yahoo:

I'm pretty sure "Autoleads" does one, only it's not a PC2 lead. it's the same plug, that fits into the back of a standard Toyota radio(without active speaker system)

You could probably get one from a breakers yard.... cut off a Toyota, then make up the rest of the lead from that.

looked on autoleads website last night and couldn't find one in any of the pictures they have - nothing quite matches what I've got.

decided to take apart the OEM amplifer so that it could donate its plug - bought all the leads from Maplin today and made my own

Does that mean the harness will fit newer cars and I can just replace the head unit without having to rewire and put a new amp in??

If so, and you have a harness up for grabs, I'll take it off your hands

If anyone else is having a go . .

#Shameless plug starts#

I bought the mounting kit to put a standard ( DIN ) head unit in, but sold the car before the kit arrived from USA. Still in sealed bag, up for the list price ( hence you save postage and potential customs import ), buyer collects or send payment and I post.

Its listed here :

http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=99-8150

Contains :

Housing

Pocket Trim

Double DIN Trim

ISO Trim

Pocket

Rear Support Bracket

Mounting Brackets (2)

Double DIN Spacer Brackets (2)

ISO Snap in brackets (2)

Philips Truss Head Screws (6)

Philips Pan head screws (2)

Instruction booklet

It says : 99-8151 Lexus IS300 2001 and up - TurboKit Auto Stereo Installation System - on the package.
