Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying an OBD code reader. This will be for use on my 1996 Ls400 as well as a 2001 Ford Mondeo. The sellers on eBay state that the OBD2 readers will only work on petrol cars back to 2001. Does this mean that I cant use it on my LS, or is the Lexus OBD2 anyway? Hope you can understand what I'm getting at.

They should in theory work on all OBDII compliant cars, as the post 1995 LS400 is but there have been cases on the forum recently where even garage professional readers would not communicate and a visit to Lexus was needed.

So before you but it may be worth making absolutely sure it will work on Lexus cars or at least get a money back guarantee if it doesn't.

Just tried my OBD readers on my LS400.

I have some made in china types that work with op-com and vag-com programs and generally on or t'other work on most cars.

neither seem to communicate , the vag-com having generic obd ability scans with a "non obd i/ii compliant vehicle"

might buy on of the elm based readers to try , whole host of other programs to use with them.
