Satnav Update My2011 Is250 F-Sport

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if an update is available for a MY 2011 IS250 F-Sport?

The car is due to have its first service soon.

I want to prepare myself for the additional cost of an update!

Thanks, Argento

Yes, I think there is. My 2011 SE-L has version 2010-2011. The 2012 Advance I had the other day when my car was in for a service had version 2012-2013

F.A., many thanks.

I'm pleased I asked now.

How did you find out the version number?

I'm being very lazy, I know!

I'm sure it is in the Manual somewhere.

Have you any idea how much the update will cost?

The DVD update for my Golf GTI a couple of years ago was £160 I recall.

Apparently, the Lexus update comes on a dongle.

I presume you get to keep that too?

I note that they gave you a courtesy car.

A dealer that I might go to, said the first service only takes just over the hour.

So I could wait until they did it. Good idea I thought.

Did you have other work done?

Thanks, Argento

Hi Argento.

If you click on the 'DEST' button on the centre console there is an option which I think is called Map info which will tell you the Sat nav version. I cant remember if it is on the first or second page. I am not sure how much it costs for the update but the dealer I purchased the car from mentioned that it will be a similar price to the DVD updates, so it should be around £120 iirc. It does come on a USB dongle, but I have no idea if you get to keep it or not. If you dont, then I would hope that it would be cheaper than the DVD's!

I didnt have any other work done, but I wasnt able to wait whilst the car was being serviced so they gave me a courtesy car.

F.A., I found it easily thanks.

The information it gave was:

Map data

Data: 2010 - 2011 Ver.2

Gracenote (CDDB): Ver. 02421

Contact your dealer for the latest map information.

Was there any particular reason that you did not have the update done?

Glad you managed to find the version number. I don't feel the need to update my Sat Nav on an annual basis, which is why I didn't update it at this service. Maybe next year!

F.A., thanks for this.

I'll try to find out what exactly they have updated.

If it's something like, new maps of Estonia, I'll wait until anther year!

F.A., I'll keep you posted.

But do you really think my dealer will know any more than us!

In the meantime.

I received a flyer from TomTom yesterday.

They were trying to drum up sales of their updates.

They said, on average (what ever that means), maps change at the rate of 15% pa

That's more than I thought.

F.A., I took the car in for its first service this morning.

I asked if there was an update available for the satnav.

They didn't know, but said they would find out.

They said if it was available, it would be £150.

I was there an hour while the car was serviced.

They didn't mention it when I came to pay the bill.

I could not be bothered to ask them again.

I don't think that they were that interested really.

Thanks Argento. Thats very odd. I'm 100% sure the '12 models had the latest version which is newer than mine as mentioned above. Either way, £150 sounds inline with most manufacture updates.Maybe I will look in to this next year if needs be.

F.A., <I'm 100% sure the '12 models had the latest version which is newer than mine as mentioned above.>

Maybe the cars are loaded with the latest update at the factory.

That update may not be significant enough to justify making it available to owners of cars with an older version?

Anyway, I think it is more likely that the dealer just wants to sell new cars.

They're not bothered with the odd £150 here or there.

Too much trouble for them.

Please keep me posted. I would be interested to see if there are any other updates to the software other than the maps!

I said I would keep you informed.

Apparently, the current version of the software available is 2011 - 2012 Ver.1

Gracenote (CDDB): Ver. 03754

There are no specific changes listed.

The cost is £166 inc VAT

The next update will be available in November of this year.

I think I'll wait until November.
