2Nd Gen Is Has More Space In Back Than 1St Gen?

I've been in the back of an IS250 and it does feel cramped than the original IS. Motoring press in their reviews have consistently reported it can be cramped when compared to the 3 series, A4 and C-Class. Can you comment on if there is more or less space in the back against the mark 1 IS?

official figures show 400 litres for the series I compared to 398 for the series II. Not a huge difference but maybe usable space is better in the series I?

Isn't the 2nd gen designed as a saloon / coupe so 3 passengers in the back are more cramped than the 1st gen?

2nd gen is slightly larger inside overall. Mostly in the front.

It has 30 mm more legroom space in the front and and 9 mm more in the rear.

1st gen has 21 mm more headroom and 46 mm more shoulder room in the back, so that's why the back seat is more cramped in 2nd gen.

Neither had a lot of space, both similar for rear leg room.
