It wouldn't hurt to replace the gearbox oil, also the diff oil but I can't see the diff oil affecting gear changes.

When you say problems is this engagement of the gears, difficulty selecting a gear, having to force the gear stick into the correct selection or crunching the gears?

It could be many things causing the problem, clutch, sychro hubs, worn bearings, worn selector forks or simply adjustment of the gear shift mechanism.

If it changes OK at lower revs have you tried double declutching?

Any abnormal noises or whinning from the gearbox?

thanks for the prompt reply. selecting a gear is not a problem, there`s sometimes a knocking noise from the back when changing 1st to 2nd gear and 3rd is only sometimes slightly nochy when going into. i have not long had a new clutch fitted, maby something has not been put back together correctly? double declutching? never heard of it. an no noises from the car what so ever, everything else is silky smooth. o an what oil do u recommend? CHEERS.

Your gearbox sounds completely normal mate. Mine thuds at the back when changing 1st - 2nd, 2nd - 3rd and is notchy between these gears. Lots of other owners on here report the exact same characteristics with their IS200 manual boxes. Some were like this from new apparently.

It annoyed me at first to be honest but now I've grown to like it. Feels rugged and I like the thump from 1st - 2nd at 6000rpm! Lol :)

Also if you get some clutch judder when moving off, unless excessive its normal too!
