Hi all, Having owned and loved Lexus LS400s for almost 15 years this is the first time I've joined a forum on the subject. However, as my pride and joy was recently destroyed by a careless driver I have been forced to find a replacement. The latest acquistion, (1999 ls400 with LPG conversion), has not yet made its way into my heart, possibly as I do not trust the chap who sold it to me and also as its predecessor was beautifully cared for, :-), there are a couple of problems I need to fix. The most irritating is that the warning light with the message 'Self levelling Headlights' comes on at start up every time. Is this a do-it-yourself fix or an expensive trip to the Lexus boys? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do want to learn to love her. (An example of why I don't trust the guy who sold it to me is the piece of black tape stuck to the panel obscuring the warning light :-() Gary

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

A common cause is a broken height sensor connecting rod usually the rear one.

There is a company in Derby (SGS) which makes replacements for around 30.00 pounds or they can be DIY fabricated.

Details on the link below.

I was in a similar position last year, my LS400 was "written off" Cat C by the insurance company, they paid out and allowed me to keep the car. After trying to find a decent replacement I decided there wasn't one, as like yours, mine was well looked after.

In the end a local bodyshop repaired it by the old skool panel beating method so it is still original and still on the road.
