Brake Bolts ?

Swapped the discs and pads on our GS430 and noticed these bolt do not move at all. Vaguely heard they should move freely. Is that correct?

Issue is that meanwhile, the brakes shudder. :(

Should I undo the whole shootingmatch, grease them and reassemble ?

Depending what you mean exactly, the slide pins should move freely, but the bolt through the calliper and on to the end of the slide pin shouldn't move. There is a link in my sig to overhauling the slide pins which may help.

Thanks. It's exactly the "sliding pins" that do not slide at the moment.

Any clues where your link is? Thanks !

The link is where TigerFish told you, in his signature. Look below the picture of the 99 GS300 Sport on his reply and you see an underlined link "Slide Pin Overhaul" simply click on that and all will be revealed. :D

How easy should it actually be to move these sliding pins? Should it go really easily or should there be some proper resistance, i.e. your girlfriend shouldn't just be able to pull them out without tools.

If they are fairly free they should just pull out, sometimes the grease causes a bit of suction but turning them as they are pulled helps.

If they wont turn at all they are probably seized and this is a problem. On mine I pulled the dust boot back and sprayed with WD40 and turned the pin with a spanner working in the WD and then adding more. Once I got it turning it was mole grips on the bolt head and pull/push while twisting.

I actually took mine out, greased them and put them back in few weeks ago but not sure I used the right grease.

What grease should you use for these? So far I used graphite grease (kind of "copper grease", but with bits of graphite rather than copper in)
