Hello everyones

first i'd like to say i have little knowledge with car. At the moment my lexus is stuck in a garage after having the timing belt done and water pump and it's not sparking.. They have had my car for 3/4 days now and i just really want it back now, does anyone have any clue to what they are doing wrong? They are planning on testing it tomorrow to see what the problem but all the time they have my car the bigger the bill :(

Well... providing they've put everything back together properly etc, then I'm probably going to say the same thing as other people may say.

Have they put the timing belt on properly?

Also, is your key security clearing on the immobiliser. It may be worth trying the spare key as a quick check.

I'd be saying it worked whenit arrived, I want it working when it leaves at their cost.

Def sounds like timing is out, they've put the ignitor wires on wrong way, or maybe they've broken the crank sensor?

I was going to say how is this costing you more money?

You sent it in working for a belt replacement, they strip your engine, put it back together and now it doesn't work? That's their problem, they've broken something or not put it back together properly. Do not let them charge you for any more work!

hello update from garage, test has shown crack sensor.. so with the new part ordered my bill now is £450.. should it be me paying for the sensor or them? as the car went in running fine..?

they are saying the cambelt was in a really bad way when they took it off and all the muck from changing the belt and water pump has maybe broke the sensor? its hard to arguing with what they are saying as i have no knowledge of cars..

what a load of rubbish mate, if the cambelt was in a bad way then its just dry fluff it leaves behind. Also if the fluff had affected it you would have known before you took it in, as youve now seen the car cant run if that sensors knackered.

Theyve broken it, its a sensor with no external moving parts. how have they diagnosed it as that?

they put in through a diagnostic test and that's what showed up...I just want my car back now its been with them since last friday now..I feel i have to say yes order the part because i don't know any different.:(

Agree with everything Marc has said. They must've broke the crank sensor when removing the belt.

Please take this advice and don't be scared but tell them they broke the crank sensor. The belt being in a bad way before you took it in would not cause this. Tell them they replace the part at their expense and no extra labour charge. You will happily pay the bill that was quoted for the cambelt and water pump but NOTHING else! If they don't like that then tell them you will seek legal advice and take it from there. I've done that twice in my life and both times the garages involved have backed down when you mention the word legal or solicitor.

hello i'm back again with another update the diagnostic test showed crank sensor so this was replaced and still not sparking so not being charged for this, i will have a courtesy car tomorrow woohoo...but still have the issue with no spark for engine to turn over.. They really are stumped themselves now..So guys any other new ideas i really would like my lexus back asap .

So is there no spark at all? on any Cylinder (in case one coil packs gone down), Theyve def put the timing back correctly?

Is that the only issue, ie its turning over by the starter motor? Fuel pump priming up?

have they checked the fuses? may seem obvious but worth a check.

AM2 in the engine fuse box controls the ecu and starter so if its turning over then that would be fine.

EFI relay in the engine fuse box controls the ECU so that could be blown

ETCS in the engine bay as well

IGN fuse in the passenger footwell fusebox controls the fuel pump and ecu so maybe that.

Immobiliser light on the dash is going off when you put the key in? it hasnt forgotten the key or something like that?

Well i did relay everything that has been mentioned and they checked it all, the coils none of them are sparking and would be very rare for all 6 to go at once...I now have my stubborn head on realise that what every the issue is with the car is down to them as the car went in working fine...There saying they are stumped themselves with it and a so called specialist is going to go in at some point hmm....can't see my back coming back to me for a while now..grrr

Mmm i agree and i am assuming that as the car went in for simple stuff that anything else that occures is down to them now or can i still be billed for the unnecessary costs?
