Hey Im New

Recommended Posts

Hello, guys, just bought a 2002 IS300, 107k and quite nice.

Now is there any issues/areas i should look for or watch out for mechically or electrically ?

Also im thinking of boosting the power upto to 300bhp, any advice on simple mods to achive this ?

is it easy to do a turbo conversion as i know the 2jz is mostly turbo'd ?

thanks for any info :)

Welcome michael... no common faults with the IS models as they scrwed together well but they tend to eat up ball joints, and other have experienced frozen calipar issues but all are not too costly.. just keep it serviced when its due using the recommended fluids and will reward you with good drive and power. :-)

yeh check your driver door sill and if you see the section which says A/TM with B02B, B02C then its LSD i think all UK models IS300 are LSD spec.

About the LSD , open the bonnet up and look at the below chassis number u should see the number , nothing at the door sill , I already check. And about the service make sure the cambelt hav been done and look out for ball joints problem. Other than that enjoy it!

Hi again, was a gd drive home apart from a few things, i noticed the drivers wing mirror was broken and has a replacement mirror stuck to it so need to replace that, also at 70mph it was a smooth ride but at 80mph the car starts shaking, very bad indeed, he had front new tryes fitted very recently and i might get them rebalanced and see if it improves. The car handles great cant tell if theres any play in the ball joints. ill have a look for that code tomorrow.

Only have 1 pic...

Nice example Michael its strange i didn't take to gunmetal grey IS's till i saw a grey IS200 valeted and thought grey colours are nice.. As Panya confirmed if its not on the drivers door sill pop your bonnet and check the chasis plate near the brake master cylinder to be honest that was where i found mine too.

I found only a few sellers on eBay selling just the mirror, arent they heated ? these ones on eBay just look like stick on replacements.

EDIT: just seen a old thread on mirrors on here, looks like it is heated and has auto dimmer. Looking on 24/7 spares to see if they have one :)

Unfortunately the heated mirrors on its own on eBay is like searcing for a needle in a hay stuck! I got a quote a while back from Lexus for about £250 for just the mirror..thought that was a bit too much for something to look at to see who's behind you or where you have just driven past..so i went for the cheaper stick on replacements off eBay as 24/7 spares wasnt helpful either but still worth giving them a shot. i must say the stick on's are doing a good job. I can message you a Lexus breaker based in Birmingham maybe he might just have a spare heated mirror for IS300. let me know!

Your best bet it find a scrap yard with a IS and go there, you'll get a better deal if you go there and rip it off yourself. TBH they will prob charge you a flat rate glass price of £15ish. Seller who have already broken the car and got the parts up for sale will always charge more, saying that cant imagine anyone asking much for the mirror

Welcome to the forum mate.. Same colour as mine and it does indeed shine up well.. Have you tryed demon shine ? It's the best finish I've achieved so far and it's quick and effective

Hey Baz. Where can you buy this stuff, except on the internet?

yes noby if you could do that i'd be very greatful. Indeed £250 is completely over the top for a mirror. Also today my mate from work who was a painter noticed the bonnet had been repainted, its not quite the same colour but i never noticed till today.

Thanks for all the help :)
