Idiotic Previous Owner

Hi guys, first post on here and was looking for some help. I picked up my IS200 recently and one thing from when I first got it was that the front windows wouldn't fully lower, I took the door card off and I found the previous owner had fitted himself some new front speakers, that didn't fit properly and doesn't allow the window to fully descend, I am looking for some original speakers and thought if there are after-market ones I might as well have a look. If anyone can point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.

Welcome to the club Rich. Sorry to hear of your woes, people never cease to amaze me, what the hell were they thinking when fitting speakers that clearly didn't fit properly :msn-oh: .....................second thoughts that would indicate a brain present

The standard speakers are good quality ones, might be worth looking into a 2nd hand replacement set unless the door cards have been hacked about as well?

Best of luck anyway, keep us posted as to how you get on.

hi Richard

-

that's an idiot alright!

get the original ones they are good. a breaker from a yard or the net will do.

sell or dump the idiot guy speakers!

music huh ? some people go to the extreme for some beats. maybe the previous owner thought half the window roll will do me :P

To be fair, the standard speakers are stupidly shallow, and there really isn't room inside for upgrades, so it's either door builds to extend them outward, or sacrifice the roll down and extend them inside. You'd be surprised how many cars I work on that have the latter!

Right, so you have some aftermarket speakers.

The quality and success will come from the install.

All ou need is a pair of 18mm mdf rings in the same diameter as the speakers you have (more than likely 17cm) from eBay.

Screw the rings onto the door skin, with the screws flush into the wood. Then mount the speakers onto the ring with short self tappers.

Don't believe the hype about how good the OE speakers are...they are inferior.

Hope this helps,

Jason.

mine are all standard speakers and they much better in all the cars I had in past included the previous IS models.

superb sound quality. . crystal clear tops, fine mids, and soft deep lows like I got a 10 inch sub in the boot.

in the end its all good for standard but its personal preference how you want your music.

if anything you can change the oem cd unit which buggers up on many models!

Ill be honest I wouldnt go as far as calling him a idiot. His sound quality obviously takes priority over having the window down. Im I bit of a audiophile myself
