Suspension Top Mounts

How would I know if the suspension top mounts need changing?

What are the signs that I should be looking out for?

rattling or light knocking when going over bumper but unless they are bad normally there are no sign's that they need changing only real way is change them, unless you can visually see there is a lot of movement in them when someone rocks the car

as when there is play in the mount or in rare cases the mount is not supporting the coil spring on full lock to lock.

My car makes a knocking noise when it goes over a bump on the driverside when I bought it. The front shocks had been changed by the previous owner. I've had a number of things changed on the car because they needed to be done, like the front lower ball joints, front drop links and track rod ends and I had secretly hoped this would have also cured the problem. I don't really know what else it could be. Its just annoying more than anything. I've been told there is nothing really wrong with my car and should stop thinking about it.

Any suggestions?

would suggest changing top mounts then or could be your arb bushes

Try changing the upper ball joints, did mine last night and removed the knocking straight away only £29 for the ball joints so you might as well just depends if you can fit them yourself

Thanks for the information. The car is going in for an MOT early next month and I will get them to check the top mounts, upper ball joints and arb bushes.

Sorry what are arb bushes and where are these on the car?

Where did you get your upper ball joints from, was that £29 for the pair?
