It is obvious that there are some VERY experienced installers using this forum.

I have a very simple question.... If you were converting your own car would you remove the inlet manifold before drilling ? (Assuming time was not an issue) honest answers only please.

I'm not sure there are any installers on here Gary, with the possible exception of Profess, and the bloke who posted for them has now gone I believe.

Regarding your question, I think most in the industry are now "done in a day" businesses, and priced at an affordable level, neither of which would encourage manifold removal.

Try asking your question on the LPGDiscussionForum, there are plenty of installers on there.

Hi Bluesman

I forgot that I had to attend an event early on Friday eve out in Kent, so gonna stay for a long weekend. It would have put pressure on BA to finish ahead of the scheduled time so I'll pick up early next week. I'll keep you informed

Just in case you miss it on my LPG Blog

"I am becoming very aware of the time impact on the installer when removing the inlet manifold.

I can really see why they avoid it I order to remain competitive. The link below is to a thread I started on the LPG forum inviting installers

To comment on the subject that you might find interesting.

there has been a good response."

How many miles do you do a year. Will you be able to re-coup the outlay? Is it really worth all the hassle?

If you take into account the extra value an lpg conversion puts on a car payback time is not long at all. My last 98 ls 400 I sold for £2000 with 192,000 miles on it & the phone didn't stop ringing. Witout the lpg conversion I would have been lucky to get £1200.

So payback time may be quicker than you think.

I agree with everything you say. Not everyone's circumstances are the same thou. We have all heard the horror stories. Good and bad. What alot of people forget is the LS is no more thirsty then an 1.8 or 2.0 litre Vauxhall or Ford. Of whatever make you care to mention. Just is the LS is so more superior.

I reckon on payback time being within 10.000 miles & I would say on lpg overall including repair costs (or lack of them) my LS & the last one have been cheaper to run than a Nissan Micra. On LPG I agree its different horses for different courses if you do the miles for me its a no brainer,

Sometimes the odd conversion goes wrong but is usually put right. As in my last experience , But having any work done on your car cambelt ect involves an element of risk.

If I was only doing under 3.000 miles a year I wouldn't bother with an lpg conversion.
