  1. It was no easy decision to sell. I have always known that in general these cars last forever. Until they go wrong. I am speaking from experience in the past. They can turn into money pits. In 30,000 miles no problems.
  2. Hi thank you for everyone’s advise. It started to overheat. Which could throw up a catalog of problems. So I sold it. I have not got the time to deal with this. So I will get the LS600. Thanks again for being so helpful
  3. LS460. Please could anyone shed any light on my problem. The heating set on full heat starts hot then goes cold. Turn it off and on again it goes hot, then warm them cold. And so on. Could this big bucks to put right. Any advice please help and thank you Tom
  4. There is a lot to be said for the 400. I had two. No problem with either. The 460 has had some unfair bad press on problems with suspension etc. I feel the 430 was the Guinea pig with these problems. The later ones were ok. The hybrid after 10 plus years could produce some expensive problems as they get older. Everyone has their own choice and opinion on what is best. For me. I love the 460. In nearly 12000 miles of 6 months ownership. She owes me nothing. Two rear tyres. Service. Brakes. Like Jonathan said. I have no idea what will happen next.
  5. There is some very interesting reading in this thread. A lot learned here. I had the chance of the 600. But not in a million years do I regret going for the 460.
  6. I also have owned two LS400s. I had no problems with either. Also an IS250. Lots of fun with this one. But not an LS. I agree with all of the above. I was looking at the 600. But I opted for the LS460. In 3 months I have had no problems in 8000 miles. Like Johnathan. I have no idea what to get next.
  7. He is an independent dealer who loves the LS. And knows all there is to know about them. Johnathan on here introduced me to him. People come from far and wide to see him. He is very reasonable with prices as well.
  8. Time for an update. I got mine about 3 weeks ago. Two new rear tires, new battery, a horrible rattling sound sorted by Miles at SandBach. After a lot of investigation. Turned out to be front brake calliper. Pins missing. Both sides. Safe but very irritating rattle. A full service. A full check over everything. And good as new. I loved my previous 2 , 400s. But this one is out of this world. Highly recommended. Tom
  9. Just got my LS460. I will try and post some pictures. Absolutely beautiful.
  10. I at present own a IS250. I have owned 2 LS400’s I am coming back into the fold with a LS460 later this week. I thought about the LS600, but swung the other way. I travel to Cornwall a lot. The IS copes with this very well. But as someone on here once said, the LS is in a different league.
  11. Hi Jonathan, Long time no see. I am looking around for a LS460, 600 as well. Quite happy with IS250 at the moment. I have noticed the LS400 has shot up in value. I must change my profile pic as well. Hope to catch up soon. Tom
  12. I have just bought a Is250. And just sold a LS400. I have always wanted one of these. It might not have the same power as the 400, ( I can live with that), or be as smooth, but this one goes round corners a lot better, is a lot more fun. Maybe a small 460. The toys etc are out of this world. Different league LS, but so much fun. Just wondered if anyone else has done this before. Tom.
  13. Further update. After a few hiccups, my old LS has ended up going to someone on here. So has gone to a good home.
  14. Sold my LS. Still in the Lexus family. Bought a Is250. Am I mad. Always wanted one. Looking to the 460 after that. Bit out of my reach at the moment.
  15. Thanks for all your help everyone. I got my neighbour to listen, he thinks I worry to much. He said he could hear something, and wished his was as quiet. He owns a bmw. I wouldn't attempt this myself. Not very good at things like that. I will ask my indi. Thanks again.
  16. I have had a whistling sound every now and again on start up. Mainly when the weather is wet. This usually goes within about 30 seconds or so. This morning it did not go. Although it's quiet, it's concerning. I think it's coming from a belt somewhere. But can't fathom where from. Can't complain, it's the first time anything has cropped up 3 years. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.
  17. Hi, really sorry to read about your misfortune. Some of the above makes for some really interesting reading. When I bought mine, it was to enjoy her to the max. Its the 2nd one I have had. This one far better then the first. It does not bother me about the value, so long as I get as much time possible out of the LS. That's value for money to me. Others will think differently. The LS is used everyday, in all weathers, and is plastered in mud most of the time. Someone on here once said these cars are very much working cars and hate to be left stood. I have been very fortunate to have done a lot of miles and just a few hundred pounds spent on tyres, oil changes, etc. The time will come when I will have to cough up serious dough. If mine was to meet with the same fate as yours, I would be gutted. I have toyed with the idea of selling before anything goes wrong, but whats the point. The mechanic who does the maintenance for me, says just keep enjoying her. As others have said, keep looking, frustrating as it is. They are out there. Tom
  18. You are correct in saying it came from an auction. It was on reserve for 2 weeks. Like a alot have said on here, its badge snobbery.
  19. Took the car for her MOT yesterday. Passed with flying colours. I was flapping for no reason. Came home to find the next door neighbour had bought an LS400 mk4 1998 for £200, 11 months ticket, not sure about the history. 12 hours later he sold it for £850. He said when it was gone he regretted it. It best car he had ever driven and would buy another. He is a motor trader. Would put photo up, but its to big, 4mb. Tom
  20. Thanks for all the kind comments and help. To answer your question Malc,, the advisory was just 12,000 miles ago. I will go down the route of carswap, Have the MOT done, hope that this just another advisory again. Which does seem to happen a lot. The place where I go for all the work being, [Miles in Sandbach] Can't fault him, really knows his stuff, will sort it. Tom.
  21. Please could someone give me a little info, Last years advisorys, Nearside front suspension slight play in lower suspension ball joint, nearside rear upper suspension arm slight play in a ball joint, offside rear upper suspension arm slight play in a ball joint. Do you think I am looking at big bucks here? The car is 2000 LS400, 170,000 MILES. She still feels like new, No bangs or expensive sounding noises. The dreaded MOT is due in about 6 weeks. Should have had the above looked at earlier, but never got round to it. The car is used everyday. Thanks in advance for any help. Tom
  22. I have been looking at 5 IS250's over the last 4 weeks. Test drove them all. Lovely car. All the toys etc, etc. The last one I looked at was great. A chap came over to me and asked what I was trading in. I said nothing. Explained I was taking mine off the road. And keeping her. he said ask yourself this question. What will the IS be like it when it gets to the age of yours. I walked away from the IS. I will wait for a 460 instead. What are the general feelings on this type of thing.
  23. Thanks Colin for your info. There is a lot of truth in what you said. I have just test driven a couple of them. Then drove mine home. Even mine at 14 years old sounded more refined. But the IS, is a lovely car all the same
