Rear Light Failure Warning Light...

Recommended Posts

So the light has been on for the last couple of days, the rear light failure.

The brake lights are all working fine and the light only comes on once I press the brake pedal.

I've seen people mention the third brake light behind the rear screen, I've got a boot spoiler with the brake light in so would the brake light behind the screen still be active, I didn't even know there was a light there.

Yeah that's what I thought.. All the exterior lights seem fine, so what else is there to check... Other than the light on the parcel shelf?

I didn't even know there was one as I have the spoiler with brake light in it..

Is yours the handbrake light (the red one) or bulb replacement light?

Mines is the orange car with lines coming out of the back, seen here next to the battery light.

Mine is the one at the bottom left corner that says "BRAKE".

Ah I see... Mine is different, mine is the rear bulb failure.. All lights seem to be working though but I haven't checked the parcel shelf one as I didn't know it existed.

Anyone know what bulb goes in there?

Obviously im going blind in my old age...

I have just had someone step on the brake pedal and the passenger side brake light does not work... the drivers side is fine and the spoiler light is fine as well.

What bulb do i need for a brake light and is it a simple process to replace it?

cheers people ;-)

Hi yes it's easy to change although you need to take the light cluster out to replace blown bulb, not sure what bulb type is called but you need a double filament one.

In order to remove the rear light cluster you need to open the boot and along the drain channel you should find 2 black caps(in some cases these might be missing),which when removed should reveal two screw/bolts.Once you unscrew them and take them out you should be able to gently pull light cluster forward(bearing in mind wiring for the various bulbs is attached),you then turn the bulb holders to detach them for the light cluster and change the offending bulb( s).hope this helps
