Gs300 Nokia Car Kit Installation

Recommended Posts

Has anyone fitted a Nokia Bluetooth kit to a GS300? Before I get the hammer, mole grips and stanley knife out, I thought I'd see if anybody could give me any useful pointers, such as how to get behind the trim at the side of the windscreen to route the microphone, where to mount the black box and button, and what wires to use for ignition sense etc :duh:

Thanks in advance... :)

I'm not sure what that means - aren't all stereos amplified?

I don't know what this means. I remember reading it somewhere here, but haven't been able to find the post.

I just spoke to carphone warehouse and they said that they couldn't fit it through the speakers. They didn't have any wiring looms for Lexus or something.

Can anyone recommend somebody to fit Nokia CARK-112 kits to a GS300 mark 2? Nottingham area would be best, but I would be prepared to travel.

I have seen some posts where people have said that it is not possible because the stereo is amplified.  :duh:

Normally the amplifiers in standard fit car stereos are inside the headunit. On the Lexus GS they are separated (as far as I know) and located away from the headunit.

The typical way to implement handsfree via the built-in stereo speakers is to cut the speaker cables and insert a "box" on the line that mutes the speaker output when a call is made. With the amplifiers on Lexus GS being separated from the headunit this becomes a more difficult task, and probably only specialist installers (does normally not include Carphone Warehouse...) can do the job.

I hope this helps someone outthere - luckily my newly purchased '96 GS 300 had a nice Nokia carkit installed (with it's own speaker...) and I get the matching phone from one of my collegues tomorrow. So with my Vodafone MultiSIM setup I'm sorted B)

I did this in my Carina, no problem at all.

Speaker mute line was fed to a pair of relays.

One relay (an SPDT relay) was wired into the stereo's ignition sense wire. Relay on=radio off.

The other relay (a 4PDT relay) was wired into the front-left and front-right speaker lines. Relay on=speakers connected in parallel to Nokia kit, relay off=speakers connected to stereo.

Same method should work on the Lexus radio, too - making it think the ignition's off should shut it down completely rather than muting it, in case the amp doesn't like its outputs going open circuit (i.e. no speakers).

Will probably be doing this soon on the GS300.
