Condenser Fan Coming Up Frequently

Recommended Posts

guys,

Couple of problems i am facing with my IS250

1. handbrake has become lose suddenly and unable to hold the car on slightest of inclines.

any easy fixes for this or do i need to go to any workshop

2. the condenser/radiator fan is coming up so frequently, most of time when the car is stationary on traffic lights.

today it came on after just 10-15 mins of driving. though the car hasnt overheated and the temp gauge is just normal. but its a bit annoying cos of noise when this fan comes on.

last service was a full service 5k miles earlier.

is it normal behaviour of the condenser/radiator fan ???

please advise

Did it start doing that immediately after the service? Was the coolant changed during that service? Is the radiator clear of debris? It sounds like the fan is doing its job, but maybe the engine is running hotter than normal which makes the fan come on sooner.

Is this petrol or diesel?

It must be running hotter than it should, even if it isn't apparently registering on the temp guage. Possible head gasket problem? - get the coolant checked for hydrocarbon gases right away (most garages should be able to do this). Don't wait for it to obviously overheat - that might be too late.

The brake problem sounds as if a cable has broken - relatively easy to replace, but a potentially fiddly job. Strange thing to happen - maybe it's a link somewhere that has come undone. It is less likely to be something inside the brake drum, but could be. If it's one of the rear brake cables, you have to remove the disc/drum on that side anyway - if it's the front cable I think you don't.
