Gs300 Mk1 Radio.

Recommended Posts

I need to disconnect my Battery but I need to know if the radio will need re coding or will it be OK. Im getting diferent stories about this. Some say it will be OK and only needs re setting if its removed from the car.

If it does need the code putting in, how can I find it. I have no history with the car and the last enquiry to a dealer resulted in a sorry mate. cant help you.

Is the code chassis number related, IE last four numbers? Can anyone point me in the right direction........please........pretty please etc etc... :(

The system is not pre-set at the factory you must put in a three identification number decided by you.

1. Make sure the radio is turned off with the ignition switch in Acc 2. While holding the left side of the 1 and 2 button and the right side of the 5 and 6 button push and hold the power button until SEC appears on the display.

2. Press the left side of the 1 & 2 button while holding the upperside of the tune seek button "- - -" and the tape operation will appear on the display.

3. input your identification number by pressing hte 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 buttons repeatedly. Use the left side of the 1 and 2 button for the first digit the right side of the 1 and 2 butotn for the second digit. The left side of the 3 and 4 button for the last digit. For example if your number is 420 press the 1 button 5 times, the 2 button 3 times and the 3 button once. With you identification number appearing on the display press the scan button and hold it in until sec appears on the display. This will go off to indicate the system is set. Once it is set sec will appear each time the key is turned to the acc position.

Hope this helps. I copied from the Lexus manual. It seems that if your radio has noit be set by the previous owner then sec will not appear each time the key is turned to the acc position.

Thanx for your time and effort mudz.

Its a pity the dealer didn't show as much concern.

Now let me run this by you. My radio comes on without any sec display coming on. I assume this means I can take my Battery off and re connect without any problems? :excl:

That seems to be what the manual is saying and mine shows no message either .So i would say that there is no code in stereo unless put in by a previous owner .The reason probaly is that it is so confusing to put one in that no one bothers .Good luck

Mine was originally pre-registered by a dealer and did have the code set fortunately for me they had linked it to the chassis number and I was able to sort it out. The owner in between me and the dealer, who had had it for 6 years wasn't even aware there was a code.

I wasn't sure if mine had a code when I got it and it transpired that it didn't so I set one and make use of the security feature as you can enable/disable it.

When I phoned Lexus about it first though they said if it needed resetting, the head unit has to be removed and sent off at a cost of around £100, but they advised that if a code had been set by the dealer it might be the last three digits of the VIN.
