  1. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I saw this one on Ebay, as Malc says Maurice usually has some transmissions for sale, good prices too! If you're planning on using it on the road I would also replace the welded up differential, they are OK for drifting but will wear your tyres out quickly on the road and this may have contributed to the transmission failure. Some good resource sites are www.lexls.com and www.lextreme.com not forgetting this forum of course! Keep us updated on the project.
  2. Plenty on here,not sure of the quality/reliability http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=solar+panel+charger&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  3. Disconnecting the battery itself should not cause any problems as long as you reconnect it the right way around, things to consider are the alarm codes, which should not be affected as the alarm systems normally have a back up supply and the radio code. When reconnecting the battery ensure one of the doors is left open and the key is in your pocket just incase the central locking activates. If the battery is getting on a bit it may need replacing if this is the case Lexus dealers are generally very good on prices and they fit for free. You can buy "Smart Chargers" for around £100.00 which will allow on car charging. The reason why the alarm went off is probably because the battery is completely flat so when you connected the charger and the bonnet was open the system detected a problem and sounded the alarm. I assume you turned of the alarm with your fob. One final point allow the battery gases to vent ( give it an hour) after charging before reconnecting to the car, hydrogen can be produced during charging and one spark is all that is needed!
  4. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I had a look on the parts database but couldn't find the part you need. If you have a friendly dealer they should replace it under warranty perhaps as a gesture of goodwill or if you receive a negative response make a subtle point of saying "I didn't expect parts to fall off a 2 year old Lexus I wonder if other members of the Lexus Owners Club have had the same fault!" Bear in mind if it is colour coded they may have to order it in for you. Please let us know how you get on.
  5. Engine coolant does have a particular smell to it,if you're not sure have a sniff in the expansion bottle then sniff around the footwell to see if it is the same.
  6. Like the LS400 she's quite an old model, parts are expensive but reliable enough if you replace the clothes and shoes regularly! lol
  7. I've returned the remote control and swapped it for a "Brain Top Box" this will apparently convert her from analogue to digital and should make it easier to control.
  8. Good news problem sorted I found some gaffer tape in the garage!!!!!
  9. If you contact Steve on admin he will point you in the right direction, there was a 20% discount a while ago on membership but not sure if it is still available Steve's email is steve@locuk.co.uk If you need parts try ebay or for new discounted parts contact AClex our resident Lexus dealer who gives discounts on parts and mail orders.
  10. I followed your instructions and the car started up and drove away by itself, the TV started receiving Russian programs, the curtains fell down and the cat started barking! The wife however continues to talk Vorsprung dork Aldi!
  11. Hello and welcome to both of you, there are plenty of IS owners on the forums so plenty of help and advice. Have a look at the pinned topics for the basic stuff or search for more advanced information.
  12. I recently bought one of those fancy remotes from Aldi that you can set up for any model. I have entered all the codes in the book ( there were many!) and then tried the search method but none seem to work. The method I used was to put the remote in program mode, enter the code and then press the MUTE button but the wife's voice can still be heard! I have also replaced the batteries for alkaline ones, should I keep trying or take the remote and/or wife back to Aldi for a refund?
  13. Hi Janey, I have been told the same thing by A Plan regarding the Thatcham branch now dealing with imports they haven't actually given me a quote yet but grilled me about the alarm system I have fitted. LOL soundslike they have their priorities a little mixed up Must confess that they didn't seem to be quite as quick & efficient as the other branch (as if they say they are going to do something or phone they always do) and I've built up quite a good relationship with them over the years, but it maybe worth having a word with whoever you usually deal with and they will gee thatcham up if you're not too impressed by their system...I think they are still learning how to be as good as the other branch :winky: Yes I need to get something done it's only a week away from expiring,I think I normally deal with Andy Snow at A-Plan perhaps the weather has affected him! lol
  14. Seeing as you have already done a search have you tried one of these?
  15. Hi and welcome to the LOC,no good asking you to search the forums with this problem because I have never heard of this before, have you left something in the door pocket that has leaked? There is nothing within the door that would produce this problem. I would suggest removing the inner door panel ( or ask a garage to do this for you) and then make a visual inspection inside the door frame area. Another possible is you have driven through something which has found its way onto the door base or some anti corrosion/rust treatment leaking out. Please what ever you find let us all know the outcome.
  16. Hi and welcome to the LOC. From what I have heard it not the battery packs causing problems but the inverter system,I spoke to the parts manger at Lexus Derby some time ago on this issue and he said they have never had to replace a battery pack yet.
  17. I'm not joining this topic discussion it's over a year old!!! lol I've got to agree with RoyT the times we post up solutions then nothing, the US guys seems not to do this so much and I have quite a few dinner and drinks invites from LOC members who I have helped when I get back to Florida some day.
  18. Hi Janey, I have been told the same thing by A Plan regarding the Thatcham branch now dealing with imports they haven't actually given me a quote yet but grilled me about the alarm system I have fitted.
  19. Hi and welcome to the LOC. A new Lexus for a New Year! We do have meets when the weather gets better,I think some members from your area also organised a mini meet yhis year.
  20. A very nice comprehensive tutorial Sir John I'm sure this will be a great help to all members and one to look out for. I did notice when I was under my car some time ago there are some pipes which I believe are the same pipes going to the front "cooler section". Where they pass around there was a foam wedge which is to protect the pipes but this foam become soaked with water with the corrosion to follow. On mine I removed the foam and then dried it out but before refitting I applied a liberal coating of spray on Waxoil to the pipes and to date there have been no problems.
  21. I didn't think UK spec models had this but my 1994 Celsior has the same set up, the main screen wash reservoir located in the inner wing area should contain the screen wash solution and this is activated by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk. The tank you show should be filled with plain water and the idea is to rinse the screen after cleaning ( we are talking Lexus standards here with a wash and rinse cycle!),if you pull the wiper stalk towards you the will use the solution in this tank. This set up is fine in warmer locations but plain water in the front tank could freeze here in the UK and damage it so I put screen wash in both, this way there's very little chance of running out of washer fluid as you basically have 2 tanks. The Japanese writing on the top suggests the car may be a JDM import like mine?
  22. I always try to help new members out as far as possible either with direct advice or by providing a link and I always welcome them to the LOC It wasn't that long ago I was a "newbie" and it was the warm welcome and enthusiasm of other members that helped me at the time,it is nice now to be able to do the same in return. Happy New Year everyone. Steve
  23. Try Footman James I have Mazda eunos (mx5) insured with them also my LS400 there very good Thanks for the advice and welcome to the LOC,it's not very often we get new members giving good advice,it usually when they have a problem lol
  24. I.m OK until 10/01/2011 and haven't had a chance yet, tooo busy at work! But I will give them a call, thanks for the info
  25. Although my car's not an import, but I've never paid over £250 fully comp with full NCBP. It may be because it's older (93) but Churchill cover it under their classic car policy. Swift were also much cheaper than anyone else. I found the best deals by going to one of the online compare the market sites. The difference however is vast, last year the cheapest was £245, the most expensive £1,700!!! I have tried the comparison websites but my problem is when I try to enter the make and model i.e.Toyota and Celsior in the drop downs it isn't listed on most sites.
