  1. I have replaced the original head unit and boot CD changer for a single DIN JVC CD/Radio using the original speakers and fitting a separate sub amp where the old changer was located ( only did this because the effects system in the amp failed) HID hi/low kit Smoked indicator lenses. Tinted rear clusters. LED sidelights, puddle lights and number plate lights. New Mitsubishi EVO 9 wheels. Clear headlight protection covers. Eaton M90 Supercharger system. OK I made the last one up!!!!!
  2. Hi Mike you're welcome, If you disconnect the LPG system it should default to running on petrol only but dependent on how the switch over is done the car may not start at all on petrol. Just another thought with the strong smell of petrol it could be the car is running on both LPG and petrol at the same time i.e. both sets of injectors are active together which would cause serious running problems due to over fueling. LPG fitting centres should be able to check the system and perform a diagnostic check.
  3. There seems to be some software glitches with the iphones and ipads it may be worth contacting Apple to see what they have to say, having said that the staff at my local Apple dealer seem a little aloof even when I am spending thousands on new stuff for my company, trying to get a "freebie" is like getting blood out of a stone!
  4. Hi, I take it you have no fault codes logged? You need to determine as others have said if the cause is fuel or ignition related. If you have a fuel pressure gauge ( either borrow one or buy a cheap one) you could measure the fuel pressure when the fault is present and either confirm or eliminate this as the cause. If the fuel pressure is OK then you are looking at an ignition related fault and you need to establish whether a spark is present at the plugs when the fault occurs. A common cause of no spark these days is an intermittent crank position sensor and they become temperature sensitive and can fail when warm although normally if the sensor fails to provide the correct signal when the engine is running the car will go into limp home mode with a reduced rev range/performance and the engine management light would come on.
  5. Hello Mike, From what I understand the LPG system has an "Injector Emulator" which basically tricks the petrol fuel injection system into thinking it is working as normal when in fact the engine is running on LPG. Seeing as the car runs fine on LPG this would suggest the ignition system is all OK (coils, plugs, leads) or it would also misfire on gas as well. It may be worth getting the LPG system checked out or have a look yourself for wiring damage to the LPG system.
  6. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I use Safari on my MacBook and have never had a problem, having said that you are probably running a completely OS to me ( I have Leopard 10.5.8) but if the other browser you have seems OK you seem to be sorted. Anyway back to business which Lexus model are you thinking of buying?
  7. Hello Sean welcome to the LOC and congratulations on buying an LS400. There are quite a few alternatives when it comes to wheel choices the main considerations are the offset which affects the position of the wheel in the arches. I have linked a good guide below showing the original offsets and you can also look for other vehicles which have the same or similar offsets and the correct 5 stud 114.3 stud patterns. It also depends on whether you are looking at new wheels, refurbished or secondhand as there are many choices,Ebay is normally a good source. You could also consider having your own wheels refurbished. The dash problem as you are aware is common but easily repaired if you have the skill to repair yourself, there are even some tutorials to help. http://www.carlsalter.com/wheel_fitments.html
  8. 100nf = 0.1uf they are both the same value capacitance just 2 ways of expressing it so yes ra49 it is
  9. Convicted offenders now have to pay an additional amount to the "victims of crime" fund. It won't be long before anyone convicted of a motoring offence will have to pay into the "victims of potholes"fund
  10. I have a Toyoya Celsior that just says Toyota on the log book with no model, the MOT tester always has a problem on what to test it as and it goes through as a LS430. How about an LS400 engine driving one wheel and turning with the steering, that would be interesting!!
  11. Could well have been damp in the ignition HT areas which has now dried out hopefully this will be the end of your misfire.
  12. I've had a good look at the various options, incl Warranty Direct and Quentin "Aren't I Clever" Willson's WarrantyWise. I've also had a look at Warranty Expert to try to compare them and others. And I've looked at the Lexus warranty. The most interesting thing was that Mr Clever's warranty, if you ticked all the boxes to make it approximate the Lexus offer, worked out at a full £30 cheaper. In other words, the Lexus warranty was pretty competitive. I have been wondering, though, about the items listed in neither the "what's covered" nor the "what's not covered" sections of the Lexus one: satnav, airbags, alarm/immobiliser, abs and turbo, as well as the command console in the center of the dash. And is wear-and-tear included? Might ring Lexus for some answers tomorrow, unless one of you clever people knows the answer? Cheers, Adi. Just to chuck my views into the pot, having dealt with a few extended warranty companies not all of them will use genuine parts in repairs so that would be worth checking as well. Andy Can't you get a better deal for him Andy?
  13. Well they LOOK the same on the exploded parts diagram BUT do have different part numbers RH 43330-39395 08/95 to 07/97 LH 43340-39305 08/95 to 07/97 RH 43330-39455 08/97 on LH 43340-39345 08/97 on
  14. It should fit as it will be the 3 speed with overdrive transmission on these models. The part numbers are different 35000-50013 for the 07/90 to 07/92 35000-50070 for the 08/92 to 09/94 Lexus often change part numbers on a year change but they are the same thing, when I ordered my lower ball joints the part number had been changed 3 times but it was the same part. There may have been slight differences perhaps with the gear ratios but physically it should be a straight fit. If you can also get the matched torque convertor and the transmission ECU with the donor transmission that would help. I noticed there is a differential on Fleabay too if you are replacing that as well.
  15. A very nice pair!! Welcome to the LOC
  16. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread with help and suggestions,I always take out the legal protection cover it's only £20.00 and have found it saves all the hassle when making a claim and it even covered me when I had an accident in the company van. They said they would get the paperwork out today with a Cover Note which I shall carry on me until the MID shows cover. Thanks again, Steve
  17. Try sending a PM to member Ormi he is a toyota tech and may be able to recommend somewhere locally for you. Never heard of "pins" in an ABS system the only pins is know in respect to brakes are the caliper pins.
  18. I bought mine on ebay for £85.00 including the transfer L40 SEJ Looks OK on a Lexus LS400 the 1st 2 initials are correct for my name the J means nothing or it could be Special Export Japanese!
  19. So with no reply from A-Plan and the expiry now within days I decided to phone them at their Thatcham branch. Speaking to a young (sounding) lady I gave her the details and was told "you don't have a policy with us only a quote we did last year" Panic then set in AM I INSURED? the renewal letter from A-Plan stated I was as the present policy expires on 09/01/2011 but what made it worse was I couldn't find my certificate for 2010/2011. Anyway I was promised a ring back and she then rang to ask for the policy number and client reference which I provided from my 2009/2010 certificate and was told someone would contact me shortly but nothing.Rang Phil Snow who said it was in hand and a guy called Giles would phone me back but still hasn't Totally confused and despondent by this point I decided to ring SKY insurance and was provided with cover for the coming year within 15 minutes at only £10.00 more than last year, same excess. I don't know what's going off at A-Plan but they have now lost my business.
  20. The drive to the Mother in Laws sounds good, arriving at the Mother in Laws Hmmmm! lol
  21. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I saw this one on Ebay, as Malc says Maurice usually has some transmissions for sale, good prices too! If you're planning on using it on the road I would also replace the welded up differential, they are OK for drifting but will wear your tyres out quickly on the road and this may have contributed to the transmission failure. Some good resource sites are www.lexls.com and www.lextreme.com not forgetting this forum of course! Keep us updated on the project.
  22. Plenty on here,not sure of the quality/reliability http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=solar+panel+charger&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  23. Disconnecting the battery itself should not cause any problems as long as you reconnect it the right way around, things to consider are the alarm codes, which should not be affected as the alarm systems normally have a back up supply and the radio code. When reconnecting the battery ensure one of the doors is left open and the key is in your pocket just incase the central locking activates. If the battery is getting on a bit it may need replacing if this is the case Lexus dealers are generally very good on prices and they fit for free. You can buy "Smart Chargers" for around £100.00 which will allow on car charging. The reason why the alarm went off is probably because the battery is completely flat so when you connected the charger and the bonnet was open the system detected a problem and sounded the alarm. I assume you turned of the alarm with your fob. One final point allow the battery gases to vent ( give it an hour) after charging before reconnecting to the car, hydrogen can be produced during charging and one spark is all that is needed!
  24. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I had a look on the parts database but couldn't find the part you need. If you have a friendly dealer they should replace it under warranty perhaps as a gesture of goodwill or if you receive a negative response make a subtle point of saying "I didn't expect parts to fall off a 2 year old Lexus I wonder if other members of the Lexus Owners Club have had the same fault!" Bear in mind if it is colour coded they may have to order it in for you. Please let us know how you get on.
