  1. With it being a warranty job I would imagine Lexus will replace the whole mirror assembly, assuming they do 1-2 hours should be about right, they should how a better idea just ring them and ask so you can plan your day around it.
  2. Hi, The brakes are pretty conventional on the front and on the rear if they are like the LS with separate drums for the handbrake/parking brake so just follow normal pad replacement procedures, be aware of the wear sensors and don't damage them during the replacement. When pushing the pistons back to accommodate the new pads release the bleed nipple on the caliper to prevent the back flow of fluid which could cause damage to the seals elsewhere in the braking system. No special tools are required.
  3. Hi and welcome to the LOC. SC430 boo hoo I want one!
  4. I now understand that the option on the vehicle logbook V5C where you were able to scrap a vehicle yourself and inform the DVLA has been removed. Apparently you can still break a vehicle for spares but now the remaining shell must still be identifiable by its VIN plate and either taken or collected by a registered vehicle disposer who will process the shell as required and inform the DVLA, in other words the days of "weighing in" the scrap body shell are gone. No doubt there will be penalties involved if the approved process is not followed as until the car is officially scrapped it will be liable to the yearly SORN. On a separate note a new type of V5C is being issued. This has come about due to the theft of blank V5Cs some time ago, The new "log books" are being introduced on all DVLA new vehicle registrations or when notifying changes. The old style V5C is still valid until replaced.
  5. If I remember correctly motor dealers are no longer allowed to 'cash in" part expired tax discs unless they first register the vehicle in their name which adds another 'keeper" to the V5C,I would therefore think the previous owner who has the right has returned the disc for a refund which has not yet been processed. BTW my 1994 LS400 cost me only £190.00 for a year last time! I say only, given the state of the road network we should be paying nothing!
  6. I was thinking the same regarding a road test before buying, the steering wheel alignment would have been obvious and alarm bells would have been ringing in my head. It's going to be difficult to find the exact cause without dismantling the suspension and putting the springs side by side, another possibility is one of the springs is broken again not easy to see as it is common either the top or bottom coil that breaks
  7. Hi Mike, I was thinking of doing the same, maybe I should have done it before I scraped the bumper on a low concrete post! Could you take some pictures of the install, maybe a tutorial? Cheers, Steve
  8. Cheers Steve, It was on ebay but then sold privately through ebay contact so ebay are not involved (naughty I know) The buyer paid me a £100.00 deposit via Paypal so after 45 days cannot claim that back and the balance was in cash. They have not got me contact details apart from my mobile. Like you say it was sold and bought in good faith and I hid nothing,if anything I think I was very honest. It's not only the money it's the travelling time also.
  9. I decided to sell my old Mount-field sit on lawnmower on fleabay and someone contacted me and offered £250.00 plus delivery so I removed it from auction and went ahead. Delivered it to a place nearly 100 miles away and demonstrated it,explaining the battery (electric start) needed a charge and one of the mounting brackets on the cutting deck was fractured and needed a plate welding on. Apart from that the thing was OK and cut the grass nicely when I had it and last used it the week before. I have now been contacted by the new owner over 2 months later saying that the battery had to be replaced as it wouldn't charge, fair enough and the thing is so rotten it is not worth repairing so therefore they "would be happy if I collected the mower and gave them a full refund". I've now had 3 texts and a phone call asking for a "quick settlement of the matter" I sold it as seen and it was apart from the defects mentioned working fine when I sold it. I'm not mean by any means but 2 months seems a long time to find out the mower is "scrap" and I am reluctant to do anything in regard to this.It could have been used and wrecked in doing so. What do you guys think?I can see it from the buyers point but told them they had the chance to inspect the mower when delivered, they were told of the 2 known problems and accepted the sale, when I asked about the length of time it has apparently been in the repair shop all this time and has never been used, coincidental that the grass cutting season is now over for the winter. The buyer only has my mobile phone number and no address details.
  10. Hi, Follow this link and then scroll down for Andy Cross, then click on sent me a PM http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showforum=150
  11. Mmmm did you check all the rubber vacuum hoses for damage, splits etc, another trick is to spray some dampstart/easystart around the intake and hoses whilst the engine is running and the noise is present,if the revs increase that would indicate a vacuum leak, needs careful application to pinpoint and bear in mind the flammability of the stuff and moving parts. Another possibility is the alternator/drive belt area. eliminate by removing belt and trying without. Finally you can buy a stethoscope to probe around to listen more accurately for the source of the noise.
  12. Hi, Sorry we haven't been able to get you going, you seem to have covered all the possibles,if you are getting rid please give me 1st option
  13. It sounds like an induction leak, have a look for a damaged or loose vacuum pipe in the area where the noise is coming from. You perhaps never heard it before as the exhaust was blowing.
  14. Is a 2000 Jaguar XJS not a rebadged FORD! now that is ugly lol
  15. Hi and welcome to the LOC and especially as you have an LS, we will never outnumber the IS members on here but we're growing.
  16. I bought a set of these,17 " 8JJ PCD 114.3,bore 67.1 (spigots to 60.1 £5.00) Offset 35, new off Mitsubishi Evo 9 for £160.00 and then had my tyres swopped over, they are still available but the price has increased.
  17. Firstly I hope you got out OK without injury that's the main thing,at this time it doesn't matter abut the car it's just a lump of metal. It looks like the crumple zone worked and took most of the impact assisted by solid Lexus build quality, what speeds were involved? I hope everything goes OK with the insurance and you find a suitable replacement.
  18. I don't know if this is normal practice but Morrissons diesel contains a percentage of biodiesel, I cant remember the actual figure but it is stated on the pump, also not sure if it does damage rubber seals I thought that was an ethanol/methanol problem. A few years ago I ran an old Nissan Sunny van on a 50/50 mix of DERV and fresh cooking oil (before the price of cooking oil shot up),it smelt like a chip shop but always ran OK. If anyone is interested I have lots of articles on this subject from motoring magazines and would be happy to send photocopies on request.
  19. It sounds like a wheel bearing guys. Jack the car up then spin the wheel and listen for roughness in the bearing, also waggle the wheel top to bottom and from side to side to see if there is play in the bearing, then repeat with someone on the brakes. If the play disappears it is the bearing. When cornering the load on the bearing is altered so the noise it makes also changes. If the bearing seems OK check the brakes as it could be a sticking pad, seized caliper or warped disc.
  20. This sounds interesting, have you got any pictures of some that have been done?
  21. Welcome to the LOC and congratulations on your recent purchase,if it's being driven down to you from Derby it may be the longest journey it has ever made with only 6000 miles from new!
  22. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Here's a starting point http://www.daizensporttuning.com/model/lexus-ls.html
  23. Hi, No problem but bear in mind the inner clusters will not fit European specification cars without modification and the lighting wiring will also need modifying. They do produce more light than the UK spec though. If you look where the lights themselves finish on the inner clusters that is the size of the UK clusters so the JDM ones are around 3 inches wider
  24. Hi, There aren't many Soarer owners on the LOC but I simply did a google search "soarer headlight cleaning" and there is loads of information regarding how to remove the lights, how to remove the lens in an oven! and how and what to use to clean them. http://www.soarerworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18927 Cheers
  25. Hi Colin, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on your purchase. There are plenty of friendly IS owners on the forum who will chip in later I'm sure. Feel free to ask any questions and post pictures of your car. Cheers, Steve
