  1. For regular servicing I would go to main dealer (oil, filters, timing belt...) If you know a good "no name" garage, I'd go there for things like tire change, discs rotors change etc
  2. you can get there from the side. open the door and remove the side panel. Use a bit of strenght, the cover is hold by clips.
  3. I was trying to disasseble it too, but I couldn't. BTW I destroyed my fingers to blood... All I could was lift up the "elbow" box a bit so the metal looking pieces we better accesible, but I couldn't demount it. BTW I think there are no screws. Almost whole mounting in this car is done without screws. They use clips.
  4. what is the quality of the supermarket diesel? Do you have any government tests there? Because one thing is increased consumption because of ****ty diesel, but what about injectors? Injectors are very sensitive on the fuel quality and they are very expensive to change.
  5. Hi, I am from Slovakia and we have hard winters sometimes too :) I have 17" for sommer and 16" for winter. I know, it looks funny from behind on 205/55/16 tires but I have no troubles on snow/ice even on hills - RWDs have problems with winter. I use Pirelli sotto-zero tires. You shouldn't have any problem to fit these, as only IS350 has bigger rotors on front brakes.
  6. So maybe really GB has a problem with "standard" diesel. Here I see no difference when using standard or premium diesel. No power difference, no noise difference, no consumption difference.
  7. When I see problems with injectors and some high consumption problems I think this applies only for GB cars. Guys from Ireland don't have these problems, I think. what is the overall diesel quality in GB? Remember, that IS need low sulphur diesel. Have you guys tried something like premium diesel? (shell v-power diesel...)
  8. well, but I think you can not blame only lexus for it. For example in my case, I like the change. BMW 520d has now very good pricing here, basically for the same amount I paid for lex I could have this beemer with autobox. If I was buing now, I probably would go for the 5er. Also, the situation on the market changes. 1 year ago was at the market bloody old A4 and bloody old C-klass. Only 3er was new, but the interior finish is..hm...made from materials ready to be cleaned with the garden water hose - words of my friend :) - it just looks cheap (it looks better if you pay for leather and wood trim) Now the lex has much thougher position on the market than 1 year ago, no wonder that less people would buy it. Look at you, you were (are) satisfied with the Audi and anyway you bought different marque... but don't you think that other marques owners don't have these problems? I think we are too picky. I hear rattling, I ask my girlfriend, I ask my friends, I drive my dealer - nobody hears it, just me... Every car rattles a bit. The question is, how noisy/quiet the car is. The quiet rattles in most of the cars dissapear, but in IS it is more difficult, because IS is very silent for a diesel car. No doubt. And regarding the MPG, I still can not believe how some people here can be stressed about 5mpg.
  9. ask swager, I think he had the same problem, dealer fixed it by changing the oil to semisynthetic....
  10. good luck with new car. BTW I have to comment that you compare the consumption of civic class car with a IS class car... You could buy a VW Lupo tdi and the mpg would be even higher...
  11. I run 205/55/16 as winter tires and 225/245 17" as sommer tires and there is no change in the consumption. Did you alter the tirepressure according to the tire size?
  12. I did some measuring* on the highway and: 1. at 130km/h (81mph) is the consumption 7l (40,35mpg) 2. going between 160 and 180 (100-112mph) - unfortunately due to the traffic it is not possible to keep constant speed, is the consuption 8,5l (33,23mpg) So it looks like that the ratio of increasing consumption is lower than the ratio of increasing speed, which is interesting, because normally it is opposite. I think this causes the gearing. It is clear that the 6th is for high speed driving. If it was legal here, I would be travelling at 180kmh all the time on the highway... *measured with half tank, 4 people in the car, 205/55/16 winter tires
  13. but in this case they did right thing. if the discs vibrate, then they are wavy, so you have two options: 1. take them out and lathe them 2. replace them ad 1 - this will make the discs narrower so they will be more sensitive to get wavy again. And you pay the labour. So I think the best is to replace. And 60k is OK.
  14. hey guys I read news papers here and there was a notice that in the UK will be heavy penalties applied if the police catch you while "playing" with the sat-nav. Is it true?
  15. no. And I believe, that once when they will be, the consumption will be equal.
  16. no way that discs life equals with pads life..specially when lexus uses so soft pads.
  17. I think Jamboo drove the IS with OEM Dunlops and said that it is much better, too. Bridgestone potenza is hell loud tire in every car. I don't understand how lexus can fit it as OEM tire
