  1. More boringly! The Commander was being ferryed around in a nice black 250! and she drives an sc!! Lucky cow! :shutit:
  2. I took my 220d into Leicester 12 months ago with this problem and was told that there was no fault and that the engine management was doing it's job correctly.
  3. Must agree, I certainly wish i'd gone for the 250 auto!! Think flying into a pile up might be a bit dramatic to get a new one though!!
  4. PS - I drove a D3, and all I can say is that I was wowed by it...the fuel consumption was a steady 27mpg in town and 40 on a motorway/Dual Carriageway dash...but the minute I goty back into the Lex, I didn't miss the D3 at all...It's completely changed my perception of the Lexus IS220d...positively Sorry for my ignorance but what's a D3?
  5. My car has just hit 42k and didn't notice any big steps but I have to say things have settled down now and it is a very pleasent place to be. For the 40k service I had a 250 auto for the day and boy do I wish I bought one of those!! :tsktsk:
  6. Flippin Ek, I wish you'd never mentioned it Now I've noticed it in mine!!
  7. 60?! How on earth have you managed to achieve that sort of figure? Funny, I can smell it to! Smell what? You wouldn't be impugning my good name would you? Don't get me wrong - I don't drive around getting 60 all the time, I've only managed it a couple of times and it was in a very specific set of circumstances (which I can describe if you're that interested!). Normally I get mid to high forties, fifty plus on a long motorway run (if I'm sticking to the speed limit). Mid-thirties if I'm being enthusiastic... I've just read your posting last year - SHOCKED!! Its a very random car and poss why I can't help loving it even though i've tried otherwise!!

  9. Me too!! Problem solved and look smart too. :winky: Funny all of the loan cars from Lexus Leicester never have dust caps!!
  10. [ The ECU re-map is not designed to improve economy, it is designed to improve off boots flexibility to 'help' with the over geared 6th etc and reduce noise. If some have experience an improvement in mpg, good for you, but that was not it's purpose. If you're getting 39mpg, you're doing okay. The figures advertised are produced by the standard government rolling road test. If they are wrong, the problem is with the test, not the car. If you aren't getting any warning lights and your car's had the ecu mod, there is simply nothing your dealer can do as there is no 'fault'. Those who talk about replacement injectors have suffered a problem caused by a design issue with the 5th injector that is there to help with emissions. Problems with this can cause issues elsewhere. The bottom line remains unchanged. The base/SE/SE-L has an over geared final drive ratio put in place to give decent co2 results on the government test to make it copetitive to company car drivers who like it or not, make up over 90% of IS diesel buyers. As said before, as soon as co car drivers are taxed on the new euro 5 emissions standards which the car was designed for (and is only 50% making it the cleanest diesel for its size in the world) maybe they will change the gearing to make the car more user friendly, but don't expect a change in economy, all that will happen is that the competitors diesels mpg figures will fall in line as soon as they are forced to run all the emissions control hardware. Sorry.... I think Jamboo, already mentioned this, but its abit strange, that using more fuel is more efficent!! I'll lay money that the Germans crack it!! :tsktsk: Also I have had the 5th injector changed but 2 weeks ago I had all of them done and it has made a massive difference. My av has moved up from 31 to 38mpg and is continuing to increase :D
  11. I believe somebody (The Mole) said that the 'update' was being done without request. I am now getting much better reults but it took from last October to get them to change the injectors as it's £2700 and Lexus UK do not want to know! Also try setting the rev light to 2000rpm and change at 2000rpm. The car is still amazinly responsive 1-5 and I can just about get 6th @ 70mph if you don't try to accelerate to hard. Hope this helps
  12. a patient person! When you say 4th Lexus, were they all successfully rejected, or did it cost you over and above any extra purchase price (in other words did they sting you for depreciation on each car exhanged) I think by now I would have defected ! Mine has 3 blisters on the inside of the spokes on one wheel only. I'm hoping the others hold out, or is that a futile hope? This did happen on my Audi too , so it's not a Lex-Only phenomenon from my experience Jamboo, both of my front wheels started to blister on the inside. Leicester replaced all four, no problem.
  13. You've posted this in the mk1 IS forum by mistake which seems to have confused a few people - he has an IS220d Does seem like pretty good mileage there, but heard a diesel from the outside for the first time the other day and couldn't believe how much of a racket the diesels make :o Are they much quieter on the inside? Must have really good sound insulation........ Ooops Didn't spot we've split. I used to have a '99 is200 se and enjoy reading about them still. Oh well over to the other forum. Cheers Guys ;)
  14. I travelled from Leicester to Worthing, Brighton and back this week. A round trip of 345 miles and oh my ***, I managed 45.7mpg. At one point on the way down the tank av was showing 48.3!!! Finally after 13 months of whingeing, moaning and complaining, the car seems to be doing what it says on the tin. I had all of the injectors replaced last week, Leicester were not hopeful of any improvement and the trip this week was the first proper run. One down side though, the car is struggling to start from cold but is going in to be looked at after Easter. :duh: Going to Kingston-upon-Thames tomorrow, hopefully will report back similar figures!! :)
  15. I had all four replaced @ 30k service. They were all blistering on the inside. No probs or fuss, all under warranty! :D :D
  16. But lets be clear, thats what I am saying, has there been a lot of cars with faulty jets & various dealers have changed all of them before the warenty company put an end to that???
  17. Several chaps have been on and posted that they have had all of the jets replaced with dramatic results also This is my main bugbear, if getting 40mpg is a result then how is the car advertised with such higher figures (big con and illegal)?? No, i had one for 3 days and averaged 30mpg but Mr Mole is right it drive much better with half the gear changes!!
  18. Hi Mr Mole Just a few more questions please. 1:Was the ecu mod brought in specifically to allow 6th gear to be used at a lower speed? 2:Also my choke seems to be on for a very long time (41 mins timed last week) not good eh? 3: The complete jet change that other people have had done reg mpg, any comments?? Than q Harrydavy
  19. Your knowledge & advice is excellent Mr Mole but if I had known all of this a year ago I wouldn't have bought the car. A Euro 4 Beemer would have been a much better option (just fewer Toys)
  20. That's an interesting thought. I presume owners will have to ask for the final drive ratio to be 'fixed' after Euro 5? I can't imagine that it'll be a routine upgrade / change like the ECU change. I assume that will not be free but chargable?? it looks like an easy fix. Basically you need to change one sprocket-wheel in the differential and reprogramm ECU to show the correct speed. BUT -the differential may be sealed in special way and maybe it won't be possible to seal it again like in factory -the acces to the differential may be difficult etc. If it will be possible, I don't see that there will be less work than 10 hours + count some sealings + sprocket wheel. Count it together and - would you pay for it? Having had twelve months with a unsatisfactrory car (poss mis-sold!) & 35k miles @ 31mpg. 10 hours seems a drop in the ocean. Would you pay or can you nip round & fix mine

  22. Oh yes :D but you have to remember that my old A4 went 800 miles on 68 litres! I change between 2000-2500ish revs, depending on the gear, speed and incline. So 1st to 2nd is typically upto 2500ish RPM, 4th to 5th will be 2000ish RPM. And I tend to get up to speed as quickly and smoothly as possible - a trick VBH mentioned on a 5th gear programme a couple of years ago. The most I've got is 460!! :duh: Will try your method at next fill up. Due to go to Newcastle next week so will see! I did that a few weeks ago - to Newcastle - believe it or not it is mainly uphill all the way there! I got low 40's and improving until I arrived, and on the way back it shot up to over 48mpg...see how you fair...! If I managed that, I would never bother Leicester again!! And stop looking at 320D!! Leicester are having my car in again mid march to do further tests - so we will see but after that I will be taking thing further.
