  1. I also have a 2005 SEL....... I had the Check VSC and engine lights on the other week....result new oxygen sensor required £300 odd quid.........looking back over the cars history it has already had 2 of these.............. -------------the evidence from ownership of Lexus (MKII) and now MKIII is it all seems to be going downhill fast.....................don't even mention the diesel IS's. Let me know how you go on with the ECU replacment, cost's etc........I can at then at least "brace" myself. :shutit: :shutit:
  2. Ok Kitware........I Guess you have made me feel better!!! Oxygen sensor being replaced tomorrow.....lets hope the ECu holds up!!!!! :shutit:
  3. OKOKOK ........ Not a very daring procedure........so try this one beneee and let me know what occurs.....travel at 70 MPH and put the auto select into reverse.........always wanted to try this but I like being on this side of the lawn..... :winky:
  4. I never here of folk replacing oxygen sensors on other vehicles, yet mine will have had 3 sensors fitted since it's birth, and I read on this forum that both the IS and GS seem to get through lots of the things........is this just a Lexus thing?
  5. Just got back from Lexus,,,, Faulty Oxygen Sensor.....£350.........Happy Days
  6. UPDATE: The Lights came on and have been on for sometime........strange thing tho........washed the car for the first time in ages yesterday (havn't bothered to with such crap weather lately).......I gave the inside of the wheels a good washout with the hose.......and... .....the check vsc light has gone away........and today everything is back to normal too.......anybody have any idea why this could be????? ......the pursuit of perfection continues....
  7. I Would definately use the toll roads... to drive to the south of France for EG, takes 2-3 times longer on non-tollroads. and you can get to the south of France on Toll-Roads and motorways for about £45. Have a nice Trip!! :)
  8. Hi Knitware.....i'm starting to believe that were in some kind of timewarp, and that we both own the same sodin car!!!!! Went to france last month and for two days I had the same lights on, and the traction control didn't work. The lights have now been off for 4 weeks until yesterday.....the same lights. Only good news is today we are back to normal. Please can I borrow 3 grand. Rgds, Tony.
  9. Hi All. :) 1.) GS300 SE-L 2005 .....what tyres were these originally supplied with.....were they run flat? 2.) Same car.....going to France......how do you convert the headlamps as the sticker option doesn't seem viable? 3.) Car going in for 80,000 Mile Service nxt week.........Lexus Dealer......how much would the expected cost be? Thats actually 3 questions Many Thanks. :)
  10. Hi Knitware, How much did you pay for your DVD....has it got Europe on there as well? Rgds, Tony.
  11. no problemo!!!!!>>>>>a similar operation has to be performed with the moonroof if the battery is disconnected.......hold "UP" and allow the roof to go through a whole cycle and normal operation is resumed.
  12. Hi, Has the battery been disconnected lately? I found that when mine had been the mirrors wouldn't tilt down when selecting reverse, and to reset I had to perform a full cycle of right up left down right on both mirrors to make this work again...... ,......seems strange that both motors would go at the same time. Rgds, Tony.
  13. Bad News, Gutted for you!!! I have come to the conclusion that Lexus gave up on the "in pursuit of perfection" thing in 2005. Damn shame really.
  14. Hi Knitware..... When I first picked up my "new" GS 3 months ago, I took off the Metal "lexus" logo'd valve caps off my "old" GS and in haste forgot to put some vaseline onto the valve thread first. The other day I went to check the tyre pressure's. 1 valve cap unscrewed by hand, 2 valve caps unscrewed with the help of a spanner. The last one also needed spanner assist (S.A ^_^ ) but it took away the last 3-4 mm of the valve away with it. Result.......the whole issue needs replacing........ Terry thanks for the offer but I have ordered the new part to be fitted at Lexus, as I am off to France next week (with car) and need it sorted ASAP. Everydays a School Day!!!!!!
  15. Hi Folks, Just learn't an expensive lesson ref: metal valve dust covers I need a replacement valve unit (£200 or so quid) Doe's anybody know the Lexus part code??? Rgds, Tony.
  16. After JCC comments I thought I would check my valves/pressure etc. Only had the metal caps on since I bought the car 3 months ago and I couldn't get 3 of them off without a spanner!!!!! Sadly 1 of them was so corroded on it has twisted the first 2mm of threaded end away exposing the bit you normally press in to let air out!!!....has this b*****erd the whole issue or will I be able to get a new valve fitted at my local tyre centre..................... I to have plastic caps on now
  17. Anybody know wether a: is there is a diy fix for creaking seats and b: how much would lexus be likely to charge to fix my creaking seat. It's the drivers seat............really annoying
  18. I found that on the IS and GS the rear view mirror vibrated...........but only when the Mark Levinson was boom boom booming
  19. Got My car back at last! All work done and car feels great..... New rear calipers, new fuel line, new steering rack.... cost to me £214 for new rear discs and pads......not complaining as were due ..... and they even filled up my petrol tank.........happy days. :winky:
  20. I feel the reasoning behind any negative comments against Lexus is the fact that it really is the latest generation of IS and GS that have let the side down. It would seem that up until the release of the 2005 models, Lexus really were "in pursuit of perfection", but have now upset many long term customers with an inferior product...........and the real shame is that most of the complaints seem to be simple rattles and creaks.......... Maybe though the likes of BMW and Mercedes arn't built like they used too either........or are they?
  21. No Idea!.........joke there somewhere?.....still no idea....something to do with a deer with no eyes or legs..... how do I tell which BHP it is?
  22. Just thought i'd give a quick report on my latest courtesy car whilst mines in for work. IS220d Base model....both times. I first drove the IS220 d about 2 years ago........my only niggles being the gearbox was a pig and the car seemed very skitish as far as handling was concerned,,,although I was impressed at the time to see 60mpg on the computer. I am now driving an 09 plate for a while........so far my impressions are Gearbox is fine....no issues...very smooth....and the handling seems better too however the engine is SOOOO noisy, when idling it sounds like a right tractor....... and why is the gearing ratio's all to *****? I recon you would need to be doing at least 80mph before 6th gear was of any use........and also second gear is a pig.......when turning a junction or similar ...unless you race around to keep the rev's high ,, there is so much lag (turbo?). Not tried an economy test yet...but can keep you posted. Apart from that it's OK. Maybe it needs a few more miles on the clock to loosen things up. Rgds, Tony.
  23. Car taken into Lexus on Friday........due to Brake Fade and Rattling from the rear brakes...I've only had the car 2-3 Months....bought from an independant non specialist. Call to say the calipers are hanging on by one bolt!!!!! disturbing after just come back from racing around windy pass's in the lake district Got a call to say am getting new calipers rear...(although I have to pay for new disc's 'n' Pads) New Fuel Line.......or something along those lines.. And new or replaced parts in the steering rack..... apparently these three items should have been sorted as a re------- I mean safety check. :winky: My only concern is with the steering being "tampered" with, at the mo it seems perfect......anyone had any experience with these issue's? \\\\rgds Tony.
  24. Hi Dave, I bought the car from an independant second hand car dealer in Stoke. (not Lexus). Why do you ask? Rgds Tony.
  25. Hi Knitware, I've only had the car 3 Months.......I have got it booked in on friday at Lexus Lincoln. Could you give me further details of this recall.....just in case I need to "remind" my friends at Lexus that this could be an issue..........also if the recall hasn't happened, will they carry out any "recall" work FOC, even if the cars out of warranty? Cheers, Tony.
