  1. Possible reson for carrying two keys: If your car is cold, start the engine, lock all the doors via door switch, then unlock just drivers door and exit. Lock driver's door with second key and leave the car warming up. Does require two keys and ive done it once or twice. but i only got one master and one valet with the car, so this requires ALL my keys! If your worried in any way. Blank key cases are under £10 on ebay, a decent locksmith will cut it for about £10, and the transponders go for £10-30 on ebay, and can be reprogrammed by your car (you must have a master key, method earlier in this thread i think). Loss off all master keys will set you back around £2000 according to Lexus (new ECU and everything) im sure it's possible for half that, but thats still a massive wedge for a lost key! yep £2k is what i was meaning- having to replace the all the electronics just to be able to start and enter the car. another example of technology going bakwards and our throw away society- ala concorde. i dont carry 2 keys thats but have been caught by the ignition barrel fault! wish i did do then! its something i always look for when thinking about buying a car for this very reason- expensive to get replacements!!
  2. will try my hardest not too forget! thanx 2d. top gear is better tho!!
  3. ya could fit smaller wheels. will say it will throw the speedo out tho. maybe put the lex on a diet n take all the luxuries out? that could actually make you money if ya sold the stuff on!!!! B)
  4. it's important not to touch both sides of a button battery at the same time- ie +/- as it runs it down. also a thort on intermittent key fob- is the casing together correctly? it maybe that there is too much space between button and transponder gubbins.
  5. i'm glad i have 2 master keys now, valet key seems pointless to me- i wouldnt trust anyone with any car key of mine if i didnt trust them not to nick anything! as for being forced to carry a master key round with me it stinks of possible massive bills just waiting to happen needlessly- a lexus punishment. would be much better the other way round- keep the master key safe at home so if anything was to happen a replacement part can be ordered easily and conveniently keeping me on the road. its not as if anybody deliberately looses there car keys is it!!!!
  6. yes it does seem so- so that makes 3 keys as standard as all my keys are from a lock kit. it seems stupid of lexus to let the master keys travel with the owner when they are so vital to the functioning of the car- re parts ordering. am gonna have a flick thru the owners manual tomoz. but the grey key- 2 button is defo cut differently to the 3 button ones i have. i presumed this was for things it could do rather than couldnt do!
  7. i have a boot release inside my car!! arent the keys cut different on the grey key? mine doesnt have the planed edges. so how would i kno which of the 2 keys with the boot release feature is the actual master?? as i could well be using the master key needlessly myself.
  8. yea mr wylie but my way solved both problems! if he goes in with cash presumably he will have walked there coz will have already of sold the LEX! :)
  9. as far as i kno the keys and transponders are seperate items. i mean if you buy a key ya dont get the transponder. also i think the master key is the grey one- with out the boot release.
  10. or buy something crappy to trade in! like minimum value trade in deals? (not sure if this would work) trading with a dealer is the worst thing. sis took 8k for an 05 tigra twintop- bastards had it up for 11,999 the next week. its a case of money talks unfortunatley. supply and demand.
  11. i've always used the key with the boot release button. the keys themselves arent too hard to get- a full set of locks and keys is relatively cheap- but its the electonic gubbins inside
  12. yes sounds like a tracking issue to me also. plenty of threads on here about inner tyre wear n causes too.
  13. better look than the steely pipe stickin out the back! was it very expensive as have been keepin an eye out for something similar myself being in the same situation as regards to ugly standard tail pipe syndrome!!!
  14. yeah i miss it too. i had one on my astra even! no fuel range but 2 trip meters!!
  15. just checked lexus norwich and it seems to be what they are going for. only black one they had was an 05 at 21k tho. of course owning a 99 IS i am ignorant to the "MM" bit tho!
  16. ok buddy ta. will get on to that soon. very soon as have had a rather worrying mat to accelerator experience recently and have taken it out for time being. ya cars looking a lot nicer btw! just goes to show what an "S" can look like with a bit of effort! well done matey.
  17. i have same prob with my mats slipping. tried all can think of. a top idea ya had! is the nissan part 2 pieces? like one for the carpet and one for the mat. any part numbers for these?
  18. i was looking at 18" IS250 sport wheels and they were gonna fit ok matey. would say 17's shouldnt be a prob at all. but yeah 245 is only 3cm wider than standard fit tyres. some guys on here r saying its fine to run upto a 9" + wide rear wheel!!
  19. great photography! one for ya wall i reckon!
  20. 30 litres on sunday from asda @ 100.9 a litre. seem to be doing quiet well comparitively to other parts of the country!
  21. i use auto glym n meguairs depends which is on offer at the time! its no "show car" but does a good enough job for me and done properly doesnt leave smears. would say stick to a brand all thru tho coz they all work with each other. for instance AG shampoo AG super resin polish AG wax etc.
