  1. Don't suppose any of 'em drive BM's do they???? ;)
  2. Have they all been holding their breath since Wednesday????????
  3. Don't know if standard alarm has facilities to enable such a feature, but I'm sure you could adapt it quite cheaply. I'm presently trying to find time to track-down my alarm box/siren on my MK1, so may be able to be of more help having found it and had a maul. (present target location being behind inner-wing liner, which needs to be removed) There will be a 12v dc pulse sent from the alarm box that lights the indicators/hazard circuit when the appropriate command is sent. I would consider acquiring a small 12v piezo siren/sounder that could be scotch-locked/spliced into this circuit. (any half decent electronics supplier will stock these, i.e. Maplins, Tandy etc. for a couple of quid) I recently wired one up to my security lights, via 12v adaptor, to bleep in the house when lights come on. Each time a pulse is sent to the indicators, it will also feed the little bleeper, and sound-off the number of bleeps accordingly. Possible side effect:- I'm guessing that the alarm may be tapped into the hazard circuit, so you may get a bleep when the hazards are flashing. Don't know if this would be good or bad thing, although hazard warning lights are supposed to be used to indicate 'hazards', as opposed to parking on double yellow lines outside the local take-away. A multi-meter (again, cheap one can be bought from previously mentioned shops for about a fiver) would help determine +ve and -ve leads from alarm before attaching the bleeper. I'll try and find out a bit more about the alarm box and post my findings/feasibility re: above, at a later date. Steve J.
  4. CD on mine sounds loads better than radio. Must admit, whole audio setup sounds spot-on, and am more than pleased with it. I did lift a big 160w amp out of my last motor on the pre-tense of putting it in this, but have decided to leave everything as standard.
  5. Right then, wheel-arch liner will be the first port of call during my next DIY 'reccy' at the weekend. Cheers mate. steve J,
  6. Thanx Paul, Mine's a 97 model also, which is now more likely why I can't find the bleeder. don't know if I can be ars*d ripping off the inner wing liner. Might have to weave some majic on the old 'lecky bodging' front with the old relay & new siren. Just for info, those 'very nice man' pics from jac show the relay under the steering wheel dash. When mine is activated, I can hear a relay clicking behind the glove box (n/s). Did you get anywhere near this side of the alarm during your 'upgrade' to firm up where the relay or brains where? Cheers, Steve J.
  7. Yeah, sorry jac, forgot yours was a 'none-standard' fit! Can't see this being a major drama though. Haven't done it on a GS but have dabbled on a few others in the past. RandyR has done his, and says the wiring is already in place on the loom to accept the rear brakelight (presuming the existing wiring & plug are in tact) Hardest part is likely to be neatly plumbing your wiring rather than the actual drilling.
  8. Thanks James. This could be why I can't find 'it' , if 'it' is in fact the horn (which I can see when the bonnet is up) It has been suggested that the horn is seperate though, so I'm still in limbo on this one. Off to work shortly, so it's looking like a bit more of a thorough root next weekend.
  9. Still not found this alarm siren. Just been under the bonnet for about 40mins trying to locate the blighter after it's weekly slap & tickle with the soap and chamois leather, but can't find anything remotely like an alarm module. RandyR, the PM you sent, I've unfortunetely deleted all my messages (including the one about your alarm), but wasn't yours on the n/s inner-wing? Checked both sides on mine with negative results. I'm guessing now that it may have been ripped-out to make room for LPG pipes if it was in that location. The rest of the system is functioning correctly (relay is clicking under dash & lights flashing etc.), so I'm sure I will be able to tap into the existing relay with an aftermarket siren or the like, but I would just like to confirm that there is a problem with my factory one first, if anyone can help. Thanks, Steve J.
  10. Mate, this fellas guide dog could read braille!!!! Thought I was going to get a fail on the ash tray level being too low at one stage. Seriously, took it to a garage who I didn't know & couldn't even buy a pint at the weekend like I usually do!
  11. Bought my GS300 Mk1 in January this year, after admiring the marque from afar for years. Upon finally deciding to bite the bullet and source one, I visited the site as a guest in December and checked out a few of the posts relating to problems, faults etc. I genuinely found it very useful & informative. The main consensus of opinion seemed to be that the GS is a solid, reliable car that is virtually bombproof. As a few of you will now know, I picked up a 97 Mk1 on LPG which has so far been fantastic. Anyway, point being, I took it for an MOT on Friday, and not only did it pass without me having to spend a bean beforehand, the guy who owns the garage remarked on how tidy it was both on top, and more importantly in the MOT world, underneath, including pipes, cat. et al. Any day to day tasks that usually cost you shedloads of money but don't is good news in anyones book. Car is brilliant, and I look forward to many years of happy Lexus motoring. Many thanks to one and all for forming the site, and equally as important, those finding the time to sit down and post the stuff. Cheers, Steve J.
  12. LPG already done a year or two before I bought the car. Company called FACTOR1 ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS, based in Bolton (Gtr. Manchester) have upgraded the system to it's current state, again before I bought it. Car runs on both formats at any given time, and can be flicked from one to the other at 90mph on motorway (whoops, I mean autobahns!) Can't fault it. Brilliant.
  13. Autoglym for me too. I had a kit a few years ago that had different bottles of Autoglym product for outside plastics, inside plastics, cutting polish etc. It was a few bob, but found it a great bit of kit. The stuff for the insides was also recommended for leather trim etc. (think it was the yellow bottle you can sometimes find at Halfords) I used it on my old Carlton GSi which had leather trim, and as RandR says, it also leaves a nice , just-cleaned fragrance. Steve J.
  14. Yeah, Ditto for me jac as well. I chucked a high-level brake jobby on our Shogun last year, splicing into one of the existing brake light feeds. Didn't make any difference to original light etc. Steve J.
  15. Hi Matt, I'm handy for Manchester (work in and around ) living about 2 miles from Haydock Racecourse on the A580. (Lowton/Leigh) Most Sundays are free for me. Pencil me in for any potential mini-meet-up. Used to be in the Vauxhall Performance Car Club, and enjoyed the odd meet-up & shandy drinking session now & again. Randy raindeer isn't a million miles away either , down the other end of the A580. Cheers, Steve J.
  16. I'm a big fan of gold callipers, but I see they're not in your list. Red cars with gold callipers seemed to work with the Ferraris for a while.............
  17. Hi, I've got the GS300SE, which I think has a 'Sport' spoiler. The spoiler has a brakelight in it, and the 'long plastic thingy' just behind the big speaker on the rear shelf also has a high-level brakelight in it. I'm guessing here, but I assume the build of the 2 cars is virtually identical, and that if it is finished as a 'Sport' model, the high level light is put in the spoiler, or in the case of the SE, the rear window. The one in my window is pretty useless with the spoiler on, as the spoiler obscures it. The long-plastic-thingy is therfore probably a surplus requirement during factory building. Hope this helps.
  18. Thanks Paul, sounds like it's not too far from that LPG control unit (on the piccy I sent you), so I'm hoping it's just got disconnected. I'll try and have a shufty at it this week and keep you posted. Bit of a p*sser about the manual, as they've tended to be my 'fiddling-bible' over the years. Must admit, Triumphs have never been my bag mate, but I could probably just about see myself chugging around in a big Stag, if there are still any around, when I slip gracefully into middle age! Hopefully my GS will just about be run-in then. I'll drop you an e-mail next time I'm over the Pool way, and yiou can guide us over to your gaff. (might have a few of the bin-lids in tow though) Cheers mate. Steve J.
  19. Still haven't found my suspect dodgy alarm bell thingy, as it unfortunately doesn't sound when activated. I'm hoping only a wire/plug may have been disconnected following the lpg conversion or something, as the system seems to set/lock etc. Any body able to help me out? P.S. I've had a look in my local Halfords for a Haynes manual, but couldn't find one. Does anybody know if there is one available? I prefer to do a lot of my own tinkering, with a bit of photographic guidance on the more fiddly bits.
  20. I'm going back a bit now, but I remember a similar thing happening when I used to get out of my dad's Cortina. What I used to do was get hold of the door frame first whilst opening the door, and put your foot on the floor to 'earth' yourself. I seem to recall that stopped the zapping.
  21. Might be worth making a note of your footwear when it happens. I've just bought a new pair of trainers and work in an office fitted with crappy nylon carpet tiles together with a large abundance of electrical equipment. If I walk over 6 feet to the door, I can't touch the metal handle without a crack of static (which can be quite a sting!) It never happens when wearing leather shoes though.
  22. Any chance of popping the bonnet open next time it goes off and locating where the siren/hooter (or whatever it is that's supposed to sound on mine, but doesn't) is??!! Assistance on this front would be much appreciated. Steve J.
  23. LPG tank is 'doughnut' shaped & sits in spare wheel well. Spare on mine then sits elsewhere in the boot. This is probably one of the main two downsides, the other with mine is the size of the tank itself. I haven't run mine dry, as I'm not sure what the crack would be if I did (I'm still an LPG novice yet), but I have only managed to squeeze 30 odd litres in, and they only fill to 80% capacity due to a pressure thing. I think it may be 60 litres less the 20% air space. I have 3 kids, smallest being 5. The boot isn't massive to start off with, but for about 90% of it's use, my car is only carrying me and a bin-load of CD's doing the old rat-race waltz. You would still be able to squeeze a pram in, but hopefully I won't be needing to try that out any more! We all went to the sea-side at the weekend, and I found the spare wheel, turned face down with a plastic bin bag in it was great for wellies and sand-ridden buckets & spades!! I have thought about making some sort of plastic cover, so you could put stuff inside the wheel, reclaiming a bit more space. Just for the record, we also run a Shogun 2.5ltr Turbodiesel, which will get about 30mpg on a towing run to Cornwall, but averages about 20/22mpg for the rest of the year.
  24. 128 miles on £8.20's worth of 'juice'. Had the motor for a couple of months now, can't fault the performance, and strange as it sounds, the economy! Fortunately my LPG conversion was done, and then upgraded, before I bought it, so I'm reaping the benefits without the initial outlay. I think your looking at around £900 for a conversion, so I suppose it depends on how long your going to keep it and how many miles etc. The car will run on both, and you can switch over mid-journey without noticing any difference. I do about 250/300 miles a week commuting, with both motorways & 'A'-roads involved. Getting a return of about 22mpg on the gas, giving it a fair bit of clog when traffic permits. Bung us an e-mail/PM if you want some numbers etc. for the conversion company. Steve J.
