  1. So could this be used while the car is moving? i ask this cause it will be nice to have this displayed within my incar screen, but ofcourse i will have to have a laptop to install the software/drivers which can then be connected to video out (serial to video) to my 7"screen. I would love to know the extra info about my car so i can see all the readings and if anything is behaving weird. I had a m8 who bought one for his car (can't remember what make) and his one costed him £40, and the garage was gonna charge him £80 to turn off the warning light off. It was cheaper for him to find out the problem, get it sorted and still left money in his pocket and for future use too. I think something like this is worth investing, except at the moment i wouldn't know where it plugs into. Anyone got a picture of it connected to the engine?
  2. Seized brakes/handbrake can cause this, low tyre pressure etc etc, as mentioned before it could be alot of things, best to get it to a lexus garage and see if you can get a fault code. Over due service doesn't help either..
  3. Phone up auto glass, they will goto you and if u're fully comp you just have to pay the excess. Last time i had my windscreen fitted i had to pay £70 all in and it doesn't affect ur no claims. I phoned them up, arranged a time and they came when i was at work and they worked on it in the carpark. Took them just over half an hour and told me not to drive it for a few hrs to let the sealant dry. Not bad considering it would have costed over £700 for a lexus windscreen and work to be carried out. Their website Click Here But what i like to know is, how many times can you change ur windscreen a yr before they charge you for full cost of work etc?
  4. Wow, didn't know a product like collinite 476 existed. Sounds like thats going to be on my must buy list, is it ok to apply onto carbon fibre? Will make sure its a nice day when i go and apply this. Cheers for info!
  5. The furthest ive travelled with the light on is about 17 miles (country side+A roads) and before reading this post i would be trembling at the thought that the car will die within 20 miles lol. So this means i can travel around 45+-5 miles even the low petrol light comes on? btw im not heavey footed, my car never goes over the 3000rpm at any point of the 34 miles i travel a day and i don't encounter any motorways.
  6. Someone called? Yep thats the same price for both petrol stations down here (SE). Is there actually any difference in the petrol to justify the difference in price? I only use the 109 when i park up at the wrong lane and it doesn't have the 103.9, im sure they do this on purpose at BP, they only make the normal unleaded avaliable at certain lanes. The cheapest ones ive seen is at Jets (102.9) only cos on the same road theres 3 petrol stations, but its not on my way to work and tbh i rather pay for a bit more than fill up at Jets to save that 1p.
  7. Ive got a '01 lexus and i travel through the country (about 6 miles of it a day) and it can messy at times and am wondering if i can be cleaning my car too much? I usually clean my car once every 2 weeks. I use Maguires wash and wax, then dry car using Microfire and then i use maguires liquid wax (thinking of getting a harder wax like dodo ones (banana armour). Would i be causing more harm to the body work by cleaning every 2 weeks? like maybe taking off the coating of the paint work? cheers!
  8. No, they have different connectors at the back, you need the bottom loader type (pre '01). Whereas the top loader usually go for £100 on ebay. The problem is that the type ur after can be bidded up to £200 (seen one go for £250 before) and because of the age and use, it could happen at any time after you buying it. You can try varies methods by searching the forum to try and get it going, but it's unlikely you're gonna solve the problem. Lexus will charge you in the region of £1200 for a new stereo (not sure how much they charge to fix it, but its not cheap either way). You can try taking it to another independent ICE shop to get it fixed (theres one on ebay, they charge £250 to fix the error, but ive never used them before so i can't comment on their work). Like most people, consider upgrading the stereo with an after market one instead. Theres plenty of posts about this too if you search the forum.. PS..admin can you move this post to the stereo section, theres also another stereo post, a few below this one in the Lexus car care and detailing...cheers!
  9. Aye, saw that too but didn't want to say anything incase i put my foot in it again LOL, like you said maybe hes a LOC member (could be an admin!). A £40 (i think thats the figure) parking fine turned to £1500+, after 4 days...and charged for for assault. Can't believe they charged him £900 to take his car away and the cherry on top, 3% cos he paid using credit card. I know its his fault, but the amount they accumulated was out of this world and they charged him that a days impound, even when his car was taken after midnight!
  10. To turn a bad experience into a good one, i would agree with whats suggested previously. Take images of the lexus as it is...plenty of them too, highlighting the problem areas and then show the work and improvements as time goes by, and before you know it he will regain his status and become a hero, and at the same time, us with less knowledge about the car can see what we maybe facing in future etc. Unless AbsolutDave decides it be better to get rid of it and buy another instead...lol And Steve ( West Mids ) scares me...he's one of them dodgy people that pop up out of nowhere and highlights things you don't want noone to find out about lol...do you work for the CIA, FBI or are you the DVLA database? And CV actually answered one of the question i was going to post about...how many miles can you expect an IS200 to go for...
  11. I was on about the programme, ok maybe it was my English/Grammar, my apologies, but im not dissing the 4x4 drivers, im on about the programme. If you saw it then you would know what im on about. As tyrrp says..on that section of the programme you could see utter chaos and they said it happens everyday, people reversing into main road, parked at zig zag lines, lorries, white van man and the bloke in the 4x4 was complaning that theres no room and was getting angry, blowing the horn etc. So accept my apologies T7RY B and Damer and other 4x4 drivers if what i wrote was meaning otherwise.
  12. Oh could add that to my list of mods to do..i remember when i was test driving the lexus that the salesmen said that the horn was a bit wimpy and i totally agree. Not that i use my horn much think, two times in total since i've had it..once to scare a seagull and another time to scare another bird, but this one was in a very short skirt. I've heard louder horn on a 5 yr old plastc toy cart..u know the ones where the rugrat sits inside the thing and have to use their legs to power the thing to move .
  13. Anyone see that road rage programme on tv last night, called eh "road rage", it was the part about the school run...saw an is200 getting towed away *points at you and says "ITS YOU" in a lottery style voice* for probably parking on double yellow/zig zag line. On a side note..how can people drive 4x4s when they know the road is going to be narrow and won't be going more than 30mph at the school run?!?! crazy.
  14. Thats one of the first thing i did to my lexus, took me a while to know that u can (took me nearly a year before i knew there was a Lexus forum lol) as i used to look at my car and the only thing that spoiled it was the dull half corroded brake caliper. I also wish that the OEM lexus discs didn't rust overnight..oh and don't forget about the "Lexus" decals to add that little spark to them. Get them from ebay. I got mine done at a garage, if you decide to get them done at a garage make sure you tell them to cover the whole caliper and not skip the back part. Think they charged me £110 all round. oh and welcome to LOC manps...i see the modding bug has their eyes on u...
  15. Mines had a few problems from the 2 yrs ive had it (apart from that weird problem of not starting once/twice a month and takes 3 turns (alway 3 turns!) to fireup..ongoing to find a solution at the moment, but not major). But more worrying ive been driving through all four seasons, until i changed the tyres to find out that one of the rear tyres was put with the rotation going to opposite direction (quite worrying as i bought the car from a Lexus garage!). And also a seized brake calibre, which happened a few months outside of the Lexus warranty (Doh!). But in all very happy with the car and i love it to bits..
  16. Personally i wouldn't miss the mpg gauge on my IS if it's taken away. At least on the Civic theres just a green "ECO" that just lights up to let you know when you have reached the optium mpg (which is around 60mph in 5th gear).
  17. durg u've got the same problem as me...let me know if u can get it to start second time round (ive never been able to...). This has happened again the other day, but i may have got lazy about following Robs advice about pressing and depressing acc pedal while engine lights are on. May have just missed when the lights came on. Will try for another month. But be nice to know theres IS a solution to this like an update of some kind, but for the is300 there is one, but not for is200, so be nice if you can find out the real reason why theres no update to the is200 and what can be done instead to prevent it. Also being colder doesn't increase the chance of it accuring.
  18. Thats normal. Try closing ya sunroof and just before it totally shuts, closeup both front windows (pass the stop line) at the same time. Time it right and the sunroof opens again...this is also "normal". Maybe cos the sunroof has some kind of sensor that thinks something is trapped along the sunroof tray, so it automatically opens again.
  19. Very true, and it could have been alot worse for you and your two passengers (So the bright side is that noone was hurt).
  20. Maybe companies that fit modifield parts (especially turbos, s/c, engine components that give extra boost/bhp etc) should also ask the owner to come back after a certain distance or certain time to double check for problems. And as mentioned before, a signature of the mechanic/s that carried out the work and whos it checked by would also be nice. Sorry to hear about your IS Cho, as i would be down the gutter (and after blood!) after paying out so much to get it done properly, only for that to happen. But reading through the posts, things are just not adding up. No info for boost, but yet they installed the pully, warning lights comming on after work is carried out ( shouldn't that have been corrected during dyno run), lack of bhp considering the amount of parts changed, etc etc. I think it's in TDIs interest to help you out in everyway they can, which im sure they will as they are a very respectable company.
  21. You need to lower it as much as you can to cope with the million round abouts you have in Milton Keynes!lol...last time i was there for some job trainning, i must have encountered no less than 12 round abouts. My tomtom was going nuts...nice car by the way!
  22. lol...sidelight with heatsinks...thats new to me! but only one problem..the light is concentrated ahead only, so from a slight angle the light won't be very pronounced. i know they are only sidelights, but its just a thought...(maybe they are not like that in real life). But anyway cheers for the info guys..opens more options to me.
  23. Got them from someone here in LOC (think his name is "bretter" or something (not seen him in a while now) on here (yes its been that long and i still haven't fitted them lol) They light up in blue with the words "Lexus". Normally u can only get them lit up for the front, but he got another front pair and modded it to fit the back as well. If you want something specific, it's worth posting it in the "buy and sell" section, alot of the times a member will have it as spare and are willing to sell it. Will post image up once i get them installed, watch this very big space...lol
  24. ^^^Wrong thread^^^^^ Rory, u been taking drugs? lol
  25. I know what u mean when u say dim, its like not having any side lights at all lol...thats the reason why i want to change them. I can remember the OEM ones were actually ok, but they were a bit yellowie for my likings and not nice icey white.
