  1. Its a basic format programme with Penny Mallory, Two car owners sell their car to three judges who pick good and bad points and a test drive .Then they vote a winner. The jag won. The judges had no taste and kept saying the lex was a old mans car !!! against a jag !!!!!! . UNBELIEVABLE. Chris,, didnt know randy newman so loooked the track up on last fm. Made me wait right till the end to hear the Lexus line lol. Good track though. I imagine his voice is amazing on your system. Not the track i was thinking of though, so will have to find it. Steve

  3. Hi , everyone seems to know the Wheeler Dealers episode that keeps getting repeated, ive just got round to watching a episode of Top Dog Cars on men and motors i rec last week . It places a series 1 LS against a Jag(Cr@p). Not heard anyone on hear mention it before so it may not be well known. Anyway its Top Dog Cars on men and motor sky178.Bound to be repeated again. Also got a cd with a LS mentioned in it but cant find the track at moment lol. Cheers steve And just realised im in the gs forum !!!! lol
  4. 1st rule - never give the mechanic any extra info - they'll just bill you for stuff thats not needed...he will find out himself if he is honest enough. Does your model have the throttle body troubles that the mk2 gets? Tiny ducts let air into the main engine block and these get blocked over the years leaving the engine struggling for air. Happened on mine last year, similar erratic lack of power but still drives, jumpy/dropping revs it sounds exactly the same What did the mechanic say? after saying all that i just saw your post about it being fixed...cant eat my words b'cos they'll taste awful but if it happens again try to make sure you are there when he tests the old leads (voltage) Hi yep i believe it does have a throttle body assy that can be cleaned. As for the leads i was talked through the process of what they did and checked and saw the old leads so am happy . Just glad its back to normal quiet mode lol,,,, mot in two weeks ,,, then xmas lol cheers steve
  5. Do you mind telling me who you use in Plymouth who is Lexus trained? I have just purchased a LS400 MKIV and need to find a decent mechanic for it. Cheers, Richard Hi Rich, yes no problem, ive recomended them before. Station View garage 01752 662372 its the garage right on the entrance to plymouth train station, you probably know it. Ask for ed and tell him steve recomended you with the white LS400. Got to know them well since ive had mine and can 100% recomend Theyve regularly serviced mine and mot and timing belt jobs. Ed is lexus trained but now works here ( i think he may own or be a partner in the garage). He Has his lexus stamps on reception wall. Hope this helps Steve
  6. Hi, car now fixed and running as she should. New plug/ ht leads fitted as one was breaking down .£180 from lexus plus fitting at my independant garage. Expensive but an easy fix and cant complain , ive had 2yrs easy motoring from her. Mot in couple of weeks so thats the next test lol. thanks steve
  7. ok thanks for that . Ive looked over what i can and nothing is loose or looks amiss. Car now booked in at my usual place for thursday. Guy who works there is lexus trained. Will suggest all of the above to him as a good starting place. thanks steve
  8. Thanks roy will try that next time it does it lol. Given me somewhere to start though. thanks
  9. Hi, i have a 95 series 3 which in 2 yrs of ownership has been a dream to drive but this week its been missbehaving ! I live 6 miles from work so do a 12 mile round trip each day. For four days the drive into work has been as expected , however on leaving work for home 10hrs later the car developes lumpy or rough running 2 minutes into the drive back home. Its done this four times consistently . Morning is no traffic, on way home is start stop driving . On 3 days the car ran rough until i got home on one day it cleared just before i got home. On two nites ive driven it an hour later and its fine again. It sounds chuggy and has slightly reduced power. In drive with the brake on it feels like it will stall but doesent.. Petrol was quarter tank and now filled to just below full but same fault. . Any ideas gratefully recieved , its weird its just the drive home. thanks steve
  10. Hi , another previous mk2 golf owner (show car) and now a 41 yr old LS400 owner with me own hair.. Total convert to lexus now.
  11. When i sold my mk2 golf to buy the lexus the engine bay was immaculate as i did show the car in VW circles . So a clean bay may just mean the owner was a enthusiast (or had OCD lol) but its not nesessarily hiding something. I bought my LS of ebay 2 years ago , bid my amount and went to work. A mate rang me to say id won it and 7 days later i jumped on the train and went to swansea to pick it up. I live in plyomuth. I did research it with the trader first and apart from a good service its been fine and im now converted and will be looking to upgarde in the new year. So it is possible to buy a decent car of ebay. Its just being careful i guess. steve
  12. Hi, yep taken all posted on board. Think im going to test drive a few series 4's and 430's but i gota admit if the budget allows in january a 430 would be my ultimate lexus (financially lol ). Will research the 430 suspension thing as much as possible to see how common it really is. thanks steve.
  13. Hi ninety eight, ok i will do, as you obviously have excellent experience with the cars youve owned. I imagine a DHP 400 is still luxurious and soft anyway. Ive always fancied something from the 50's from stateside but never had the balls to take the plunge lol. Have the LEX bug at the moment. cheers steve
  14. I keep seeing references like this, but I've never seen the posts explaining what the issue is? Can anyone enlighten me what the problem is please, or point me to the earlier threads? Tried a search, but came up with nothing. Thanks Chris hi chris , its a current thread in the brakes and suspension section, have a look. Sorry dont know how to link it. steve
  15. Thanks for the replies guy's . so its wheels and suspension then. Plymouth has its share of full width humps and the square mound type. Im thinking maybe a non DHP model for me as i like the soft luxuary type ride, which fits the car. would test drive one if it came along though just to be speaking from experience. Maybe posting more questions as it gets nearer change time as the next model will be a keeper for a few years. Am thinking series 4 at the moment though. Like another member im not liking the recent posts about 430 ride sensors. cheers steve.
  16. Hi , am in the early stages of researching what model to go for next . There seams to be if i read it correctly a extra secification for series 4 400's above the standard spec. DHP. Can some one explain what extra's the dhp model has please, ive done a search with no results and because its a old car lexus uk site is no help. thanks steve
  17. Hi , im beginning to think mk iv is the way to go to. Im in a position to upgrade soon and have been researching the 430 as my next ride but as the last post stated they seem to be having more trouble and more expensive faults than 400 series . So im now reconsidering wether to just put some money into my series 3 or drive a few sreies 4 and see. Apart from wheels , ftont end and satnav i dont think theres much difference. If i was coming into lexus now it would be a series 4,no question. steve
  18. Thanks for that - Yes, CARS FOR SALE would be excellent, but I couldn't find it. OK, old and dim, I admit it. Would you be very kind and provide a further hint? Hi , instead of clicking the Ls400 section on the main page scroll down through the other sections and you will find "cars for sale" cheers steve
  19. Totally mad!!! just read the whole lot and just realised its a 6year old topic ! Im thinking mat should get an award for what must be the longest post ever! lol. I remember the old carl sagan series cosmos back in the early 80s i think , anyway he proposed you could turn on a torch and travel so fast in a circle that you could arrive behind yourself before you turned it on! does anyone remember this ? he explained it in such a simple way it sounded plausible , to a non technical me anyway lol. cheers steve
  20. hi, Looks sweet, i like the silver over slightly darker silver. Possible wedding car sideline i think ? steve
  21. Hi, How about keeps the 97 for a year (it shouldnt lose to much and the year and what you saved on mileage will help) and..... look at LS 430 prices again then . That gives you a long term option. Im selling my 95 early next year and planning on a Ls430 so its not to long to wait. cheers steve.
  22. Was sitting in LS today just listening to radio, waiting to pick up fiancee fiddling and looking around as you do and had a play with the ashtray. Never been smoked in so had a fiddle with the tray and pulled it out. What is the little window and what i can only describe as an element or copper ? plate in the back of the tray for? Had a look in the recess and it looks like when fitted the element? makes contact with a plate in the hole. As if it does something. Any ideas ? or does it do nothing. cheers steve
  23. Mines about 1400rpm when cold then drops to 450rpm when warm. steve
