  1. hi i recently had a problem with my rear door speakers and can confirm by trial and error of pulling plugs off the amp and reconnecting that the amp under the drivers does indeed power all speakers and sub, Its the only one, however i didnt get as far as finding a wiring diagram yet. steve
  2. Sounds like you had a result seeing it when covered in water at least the bodyshops paying up no problem. I wonder how many other cars may have been treated to the same treatment by the monkey and if they owned up to it ? lol steve.
  3. The only thing ive noticed with the a/c on is sometimes under acceleration and braking the revs seem to lurch a little if that makes sense, not a big issue but i assume its normal because the a/c side of things has to adjust depending on what revs you give the engine... made more sense in my head lol!! steve
  4. Steve The air con will dehumidify the air so you definatly need it on in winter, especially if really cold or wet, you can clear the screen with cold air at startup as soon as the dehumidification starts as the dry air just clears it up... I have always left my aircon on all the time and never had any bother with any car I've had and its been loads....probably getting on for 15-20 with air con. Pete thanks again, will start leaving a/c on now. Sounds like it will help a lot in the winter with misty screens. Was always like most people afraid to use because of the increased mpg but i think the benefits outweigh a couple mpg if any. steve
  5. Thanks pete, im going to start using mine more, i try to use once a week as you say but usually forget. Is ther any benefit with a/c on when heating (as winters here !!) as it comes on every time i use the auto button whatever the temp? thanks steve.
  6. You had me worried there chris i thought i had the only series 3 without t/c !!! like a monday morning car or sumthing. I must admit its great fun not having traction control ... steve.
  7. hi, and welcome to the club, Your not alone.... i bought my 95 sight unseen from ebay and drove it home from cardiff to plymouth with no probs .Its been a great car alround and by far the best ive owned. Sure yours will be fine too as its been well looked after. Cheers steve.
  8. hi john, my series 3 has had similar faults as well, heres my take on it. With the cd player make sure you put the discs in the changer face side down, play side up if that makes sense, also some changers see finicky with copies. with the brake warning light check the fluid level is topped up properly (resevoir jjust below drivers w/blade) . Also the light doubles as a blown bulb indicator so check your stop and tail lights are functioning ok. As for the night time illumination lines gone too , not a diy fix but some companies can fix this for you (sure someone will post details for you) also a member called chris vince has repaired these for people privatley, (i must get mine done for the winter lol. hope thats of some help. cheers steve.
  9. Hi The early 1uz engine that you have in yours would not be damaged by a cam belt failure, the pistons do not hit the valves if it fails, so although the belt does need changing regularly you do not have to worry too much Pete Hi Pete, thats interesting, i am under the assumption that most engines destroy themselves with cambelt failure . i.e.. pistons and valves bent . So how does lexus design a engine that overcomes this failing and then not use it in later models !!! it does not make sense, would it be a cost issue maybe . but then they just wouldnt have used it it the first place. I think im looking at it to simply maybe lol cheers steve.
  10. Hi DR g, if im correct in thinking its 60,000 or 6yrs which ever is sooner . At 25,000 miles since the last change the belt should be fine . Givin the 6yr reference that should give you at least 2yrs before you should think of having it replkaced. That would be my thinking if it were my car . cheers steve.
  11. lol bazgtr like the humour , hope dave knows you well !!!. i always try and view ls/gs pages each day as a lot of posts are helpful. unfortunatley i will never see doc martins ls as i cant stand clunesy lol wacko thanks for a good link, steve
  12. Apologies - it's not a triangle, it's a "brake drum" symbol (circle with stylised shoes outside of it), and an exclamation point in the centre. The only thing the Lexus manual has to say about it is (paraphrased): "Serious braking system problem - get back to Lexus ASAP before you crash through someone's garden wall!" As I say - most of the time it's just a flakey brake light (I will check the loom out, sounds promising); but it also lights briefly if I have to brake REALLY hard... Hi adeV ref the brake drum warning light coming on under heavy braking . Ive had this a few times to and have had it checked out, Have been advised fluid level ok but under heavy braking the level moves away (i.e, forward ) of the sensor. As soon as u stop the level settles and the light goes out. Nothing to worry about, just check all fluid levels regulalry to be on the safe side . steve.
  13. Hi Guys wheeler dealers on sky250 right now 6-7pm ls400. if you havent seen it its on again between 7-8pm tonight on sky 251 disc.rt+1 Been wiatin ages for it to be repeated lol steve.
  14. hi, silly question but are the cds the right way round, my indash cartridge takes the cds play side facing up which caught me out when i bought the car. hope that helps steve

  16. thanks brian , i will get the hang of it, weird seeing a ls with no roof !!

  18. Hi all, just found a piccy of a cabriolet ls400 , obviously a aftermarket cut and shut . Will post if someone can explain how to ... lol Image is in my docs. cheeers steve.
  19. hi yep i cant really do sidcup from plymouth and back on a weekday, id haveto leave at midnight to give them the car for a days work at 8am , then home at the end would be a killer ,lol. I do have a local ex lexus trained technician in plymouth i use but was just weighing up the cost against value issue, Ive decided to do it now anyway around october time . At the end of the day the car is just worth it and anyone who cant understand this has obviously never driven a ls400. I do have to make a trip to see chris vince at some point to sort the usual display issues we get and that will be a long enough day out !!. Thanks for the input from all though. steve. P.S, what do you drive after owning a lexus anyway ..... yep i gota keep :winky:
  20. Hi, thanks for the thoughts and input, i really cant see me in a small jellymould eurobox tin can so will probably have it done when the time comes, i will remove the covers and check condition first to confirm needed doing. I mentioned doing the w/pump because ive read somewhere on here that the new belt and tensioner puts renewed strain on the old pump and being so far into the engine it would be cost effective to do both at once. If i decide to keep her long term this may be worth doing. Haha ive probably talked myself into it now. Will have to sort parts and prices out nearer the time but changing cars would enevitably work out more expensive and i am very happy with the car. cheers steve.
  21. Some advice please gentleman ... my 1995 mk3 is due a cambelt in oct/dec this year. If its worth doin i will be doin the water pump at the same time which ive been told could cost up to £600 all in. My question is ,,, is this worth the expense on a car that cost me £1500 ? and in todays market would probably only sell for £1000 . The car is in good order all round and body is mint. If i were to not do the job and just run the car as is the belt may last a long time, if it goes at all. And if it did eventually go i could pick another car up for not much more than the cost of the cambelt now. Your thoughts please..... steve. p.s. i have always been a car person and love my lexus , but do have to balance cost of running against value of vehicle.
  22. mines a 95 and has just done 176,000 regular service and sweet as youd like. steve.
