  1. Hi, good news on the pass. the money saved on any repairs will come in handy for gas (lol) Even with the price of petrol these cars are still very worth the extra expense. cheers steve
  2. It seems as if the price of fuel is rising at about the same rate as the value of an LS is descending. If it carries on like this, my 1996 jobby will soon be worth the same as a tank of fuel. Roys Motor Company in Norwich have a 90,000-mile LS for under a grand! I know what you mean... mine is due a cambelt in november which would realistically include a water pump at the same time. The question is will it be worth doing? I could save the cost of the job and run the lexi till she dies and go out and buy another for a little more than the cambelt jobbie !!! Big decisions in october me thinks.... steve.
  3. Good ideabout the locksmith, not heard of duck oil ? is that something special ? It is a very fine lubricant similar to WD/40 but a bit more refined. Usually comes with a really thin spout to get into those awkward places i.e. Keyholes. P.S. Regarding the locksmith idea, get your yellow pages and go to them don't call them out and you don't get a call out fee that way. Good advice thanks, will try the d/oil then the locky if needed.. thanks

  5. Hi, Has anyone experienced a seized boot lock barrel ?. My master key does all it should but will not unlock the boot. The key goes fully in but will not turn at all so im guessing its seized. Its been like this since purchased and relying on the boot release alone is risky at best. Am slowly sorting the few faults the car has and this ones next. Have looked inside boot at barrel and it looks like a sealed unit, Ive tried loads of wd/40 and oil from an open position (boot lid) to let in seep in but no avail. Am thinkin i need to replace the lock which means an odd key,,, if this is the case,,, will a barrel from another model on the toyota range fit (cheaper than lexus lol) Thanks for any advice steve.
  6. Thanks bigste, good link. Picked up my oring today so its a weekend job coming up, thanks for the info. steve.
  7. hi miq , yep as described black oily buid-up below res. Mine has done 160,000 miles so our cars are miles (lol) apart. Just keep an eye out for it, they are over 10yrs old after all. cheers steve.
  8. o-ring on order from lexus so now its a job for next w/end. Bearing in mind the last two posts im gona have to find a tutorial for it as sounds tricky. my mech skills are ok but nowhere near workshop standards lol. steve.
  9. Hi , baz has the right ideam basically look as new as you can afford. Ive had my 95 ls400 since sept last year , cost me £1500 with 150k on clock and good history, All she cost me is a service and £300 to sort the brakes out which is acceptable wear and tear items. I get 19-20 mpg aroung town and 26-27 mpg motorway. Whichever model you purchase you will love it, petrol costs are rediculous but so worth it to run a ls. cheers steve.
  10. Hi Guys , sorry to raise an old question but am sure someone will know the part no,, for the power steering o-ring on a 95 LS. Mine has just started to seep and i know the importance of sorting quickly, Have searched old threads and can only find the number for pre 95 but they will prob be the same. Thanks in advance.. Steve.
  11. Hi, my garage did exactly that with the wires as they were a pain to remove intact, and £ 100 for a couple of sensors is a lot. Been fine since new pads fitted, all you got to do is check your pad wear manualy between mots, cheers steve.
  12. hi , i think what brian meant is ... inside the boot roughly where the fuel flap would line up should be a manual release cable. You may have to pull back the side liner if its not obviously in sight. May have been left behind by a previous owner, but it should be there Cheers steve
  13. hi Kendr, the amp is located under the drivers seat on a uk spec ls400.MK3 If you slide the seat fully up and fully forward , you can gain enough access to remove the amp (there is only 1). !st remove the plastice cover panel (2x screws under square covers ,these prise out. Amp is held in by two pozi head screws each side, Amp has about 8 screws holding it together and is easy to take apart and re.asemble. I have some experince of this as my driver rear speaker is very intermitent (95% of time off) but all other speakers work. Ive not been able to trace the fault at the amp or speaker end so if you have any luck with yours let us know the fault. Thanks steve.
  14. Hi, you could look on "lexls.com" under tutorials and audio,,, it has a pictured strip down of a ls400 electric aerial. Have a look at the pictures and im guessing it would be the same unit used on gs as well. It may help if you need to open the motor ***** up. Cheers steve.
  15. hi , dont suppose you know the number of the breaker ? as this is the 1st time ive heard pf a mk3 being broken and need a n/s frt side light lens, and amp ! lol cheers steve
  16. Hi miq, thats mad on the wipers i will also pray for rain lol. On the cd front my 95 series 3 plays cdr fine but wont touch cdrw, whicj i can live with cheers steve.
  17. What a well kept LS, gorgeous black looks like liquid !!. Will be doin the water / coin test at w/end, mine a 95 on 160k so will be interestin. Cheers steve.
  18. \hi pantograph is when the blade has two arms attached to it , you probably seen it on buses ,lorries, and some people carriers. My 95 doesent have any switch on the arm for summer/winter mode and no mention in the h/book.. Got a feeling the gs owners may have one up on the ls here !!! cheers steve
  19. hi, i recently replaced my aerial with just a new mast (from stateside). The whole job took less than 15 mins with being careful n reading instrutions. if i had to do it again it would be a 5min job. Just have a helper handy for pressing the buttons/ ignition and a pair of disposable gloves for yourself removing the old mast, it can be greasy when removing. cheers steve
  20. Hi, i replaced my frt discs on my 95 shortly after purchase and was surprised how cheap genuine lexus discs are £120 a pair is cheap for considering they stop a near 2 ton car. How much cheaper would quality non lexus parts be,, not much i think, worth givin lexus a ring buddy. Steve.
  21. thanks , guys, i wonder how much the shipping added to the price lol. cheers steve..
  22. thanks miq im gonna have to have a look now, washed it today and never noticed it yet
