  1. My 1976 LS400 well used & a little rough looking with 140000 miles on the clock Returns around 24 mpg However my RX300 2003 in immaculate condition throughout. Drives superb 60,000 gentle miles on the clock only returns around 17mpg in town driving. I avoid traffic jams so its not sitting in traffic all day. on a 1oo mile run on a motorway it reached 19.7 mpg. This seems very low to me as the vehicle is driven gently. Could anybody please advise me on what the fuel consumption should be on a 8 year old RX300. & Any tips on how to improve consumption would be very welcome. There is nothing kept in the car like a heavy tool box etc.

  3. Thanks Guys. Yes It was the throttle head that needed cleaning. After doing this little job I came off the M2 last night & it was perfect. Engine is running lovely now. I am very happy so a "Big Thank" You to you all
  4. Many thanks guys for your rapid replies. I will try your suggestions & let you know the outcome. Yes its driving me nuts lol. I so much appreciate your help. Thank you so very much.
  5. My 1996 LS 400 (120,000 miles) Has the very same problem. I was told to change the petrol filter but it made no difference at all. I shall try the throttle head clean. Remarkable detailed research has been done here. Thank you very much indeed for posting this. It has saved others like me hours of research & lots of cash at garages trying to solve the problem. I will report back with an outcome once I have had the throttle head cleaned. Many Many Thanks again.
  6. My ls400 always cuts out as I pull into the services after several miles of motorway driving at speeds of say 80 to 90 mph I was told to fit a new petrol filter but it has made absolutely no difference whatsoever, As soon as I slow down to 4 or 5 mph on comes the ignition lights & I have to restart the engine. Engine starts first time & runs lovely. No more problems untill I come off the motorway again. It does not happen if I keep the speed to around 65mph. but if I have been travelling at around 80 or more even if it is only a mile or so then it will happen everytime. Why? Any advice would be appreciated
  7. My 1996 LS400 Has severe squeak on front brakes. Especially in the morning (waking up the whole neighbourhood) I had a new set of "lexus" pads fitted but the problem got worse. I bedded them in very gently hoping the noise would go but it got louder & more frequent After 300 miles I returned to the garage who said the pads were faulty & fitted another set under the warranty. Great! for a day or two but then the squeak returned but not so bad. then after a few weeks & 100 miles or so the squeak is back with vengeance! It is very loud first thing but seems to clear after a mile or so down the road. It will return after parking the car for a few hours. Seems twice as bad on cold damp mornings. As I say it clears after a mile or so gently touching the pedal several times. However some days It clears but returns here & there even when the brakes are hot. It is so loud sometime that pedestrian's turn round to look. It is very embarrassing. The garage now tell me to fit non lexus brakes & recommend "Lucas" pads. Surely this can not be right. Has any one else had this problem with an ls400 Has any one any ideas on how to cure it? Would be much appricated.
  8. I think £2500 is to low. 98s are around £4000/ £4500 if your talking mint. unmarked condition. Forget the petrol situation. Petrol has always been expensive, but People have always loved big juicy cars. The Ls400 is fantastic on petrol. My 97 does around 25mpg in town. more when on a run. I would want around £3500 if I sold it. They are beautiful cars. Cant see myself in anything else. There is many on eBay but be careful on there. Go & drive before paying. You may find a cheap one for £2500 only to get it home & find it needs £1000s spent on it. Tyres & brakes can almost come to that. & if you discover gearbox or suspension problems, you will end up with a lot of expense. I know many people who cant sell a car to someone from their home because of "comebacks" so get rid of their old dog by slinging it in an car auction or on eBay! Having said that I'm sure there are the odd good one on there, just be careful. Good luck with your search.
  9. Great I'm sure it will pass for many years to Come! I am taking my 1996 Ls400 for MOT In the next 2 weeks. I have faith She will pass. Have Fun, Drive Safe
  10. I never liked Green untill now. That looks a fantastic car. I'm Green with envy! It really looks a Grand Car, Good Luck with it (not that you'll need it) Its a Lexus! As for Phone I cant help, but I know where your coming from. It would be great to have the 0riginal phone & working. I have the same problem with my 96P Ls400, All the kit is there but no handset! I cant seem to find out which model it was. If I could I'm sure I could track one down on ebay or similar. I shall keep an eye on this post in the hope someone can answer both our problem's! Meanwhile Welcome to L0C & hope to see you on a run next year perhaps! Have Fun, Drive Safe Regards, DjDon
  11. Hi and welcome to LOC, I think you would be better using the US forum ( www.lexusownersclub.com) as I have seen previous posts on there for the questions you are asking and everything is twice as expensive in the UK I don't know the correct proceedure for front seat removal but I would disconnect the battery and wait at least half an hour to allow any airbags to become "safe". Perhaps if you did remove the carpet it may be possible to have it commercially cleaned or hire a machine to do this ( in the UK we have Rug Doctor that does this). Another possibility is to fit "overmats" to hide the problem. Good Luck, Steve I Get great results using 1001 carpet shampoo. No need to remove the seats. I have used it for years. Mix a capful in a lttle warm water then use the foam suds on a small scrubbing brush & scrub. You will be amazed how well they will come up.keep changing the water keeping it clean. Vacum when dry, Your car will smell better too............DjDon
  12. Hi Bob. If I pull away cold. I can travel almost a mile & touching 30 mph Without touching the Accelerator Pedal. I did think of slowing down the tick over but it is Perfect after a mile or so! Maybe in the Snow or Ice you should warm the car up fully before selecting Drive! Have Fun. Djdon.

  15. I have a reputation to uphold with the ladies giggity giggity giggity yes she was in there quite a while, & did you see the smile she had on her face whilst in there ? :winky: (She also remembered Ellz from a previous visit a while back ) Thanks to Lexus Brighton for their hospitality Thanks for making it a great day, LOC. We raised some money for a terrific cause. :D Brighton Council should be shot for terrible traffic management. A special well done for John for being mad enough to do it in the first place :D Thanks also to the Great British Weather for making it as cold, windy & wet as possible. DJ Don the car in question is an Aristo (with some major modification) owned by Mr Pro-Lex. Nice to meet some members I hadn't met before ,a first LOC meet for some too. Sorry Spacewagon but we lost you after the Duke's Head , hope to see you DJDON & Graham at other meets soon. So nice to have some elegance along with the more sporty Lexus @ a meet. Bearing in mind how really bad the weather was, the turn out was very good so well done all who braved it, along with passengers/wives/offspring etc. It was my Daughters first meet, & I don't think it will be her last. All that remains now is to see who gets the short straw next year for charity.... watch out .... it could be you !! P.S thanks to all sponsors on LOC & WIM plus Mark @ TDi for the auction prize DjWozza Your a Geezer,A real Character! Thank you for the info, yes it was the White Aristo that did it for the wife & daughter! It was our first meet also but it certainly wont be our last, Just please please dont ask me to jump out of planes or RISK death in a cold sea next year! I'll just donate money to watch people like you & John to do it, lol

  18. Great Day I think was had by all. We certainly enjoyed it. It was great to see you all & Wow there was some lovely looking cars there. It was so windy & wet I don't know how Cold John & Wozza was, but I was freezing Standing on the Beach in a padded coat! Well done to both of you. Despite all the sat/navs How many times did we get lost? lol That was part of the fun! I think everyone made it in the end! What happened to Spacewaggon? We had a chat around his Gold Ls400 in the Grasshopper but didnt see him anymore. As for Graham,Great Couple, We loved your Ls400. It is the modal we want to update to, I must get myself a Chrome Grill after seeing yours! A Passerby asked if they (John& Wozza) were some Celebrities, thinking all those taking photos (everyone by this time) were "Press" Of Course we said they was! Which they are. Now! Another asked if it was a Stag do, Seeing all those people walking towards that rough looking Sea! lol My Wife & Daughter both said that the White Car with Rear Spoiler was the Car they liked most! (sorry im not sure of the modal. an import I think. but in the photos taken at the Grasshopper it is the 2nd in line, Parked next to Spacewaggons Gold Ls400 which is 1st in line ) I disagree & thought mine was! No really It was Grahams Car that did it for me, but we all liked Wozzas Car with all the Chrome interior bits. Well Im Off to bed now, The Girls have already gone, even though they slept in the car all the way home! yes even through that diabolical traffic on the way back. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. Christmas Party Perhaps! Is DjWozza doing the music? Take Care , Drive Safe & Best Wishes to you all. djdon
