  1. what are the 2 hoses one small one larger that feed into the plenum chamber on the airbox after the flexi hose behind the flow meter? I have an alloy pipe and an induction filter on the way and want to know what to do with them, i think there the crankcase ventialtion but haven't encountered 2 hoses before. thanks
  2. complain to Lexus HQ they might lean on a dealer who is doign a terrible job and dragign there name through the mud.
  3. "To be fair a £900 spend on a car worth £1,000 does not make any financial sense" Does if the only car that'll do equivilent mileage and luxury costs you £30k ;) the LPG will pay for itself quiet quickly and it also makes the car worth more. It's like getting to MOT time and having the choice of scrapping the £1k car or spending £500 on it, if you scrap it you get £50 and no car so have £550 to spend, if you fix it you have a £1k car that doesn't need an MOT for another year and will probably be cheaper to get through the next one, as an example i'd be surprised if i need a rear control arm or any of the 4 front control arms or front right spring or discs as i replaced these for last MOT.
  4. get as late as you can, i have a mk3 and it's better then mk 1 or 2 but the mk4 is better then mine and i really want one, although they have an old satnav, really how expensive is a TomTom??? i'm much more after the extra power (+20bhp over a mk3 +30bhp over mk1/2) better fuel econermy (VVTi) and extra gear (5 speed auto rather then 4 speed) plus the traction control, xenon headlights and other bits. Of course i'd rather have an LS430 over that lol. Check the rear diff on any car your buying doesn't leak, mines been leaking ages (about 6 months or 14k) and it's now making lots of noise (it's done 231k). Look for rust, make sure no horrible clonking noises from suspension, nice smooth gearchanges and check the cambelts been replaced in last 60k or knock some money off (and don't change till 100k ;) ), make sure all electrics work the engine should be smooth and make no untoward noises (i still try to start mine when it's already runnign ad it's done 231k and is silent at tickover, not like my 50k sierra xr4x4 2.9 cologne which you could hear tapping before you could hear the exhaust when it was coming down the road....) good luck and buy on condition not mileage, to a lesser extent service history of the more recent time frame is more important then what was happeneing to it 15 years ago, if it's still going it must of been mainteaned but if it hasn't been recently how long is it going to last?
  5. Should i say 28 years old and pay £290? Sky insurance, 6k a year mileage, TPFT (the car has a new windscreen and any accident/vandalism will write it off and i'm not going to have a fault accident). thats on a group 19 mk3. thats with an LPG conversion (+£100 to fire excess) and a cat 1 alarm (cause the scorpion broke). http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showuser=23189 Sky insurance are on here as memebrs as well :)
  6. get a mk3 or 4 there beter engineered over the 1's and 2's, if you get a mk4 probably best ignoring the satnav and just buyign a tom tom or simular. I have a mk3 thats on 231k which i've converted to LPG by far the best car i've ever had.
  7. Hi John. I think our friend has joined today with the sole aim of rattling cages. He's done you and me. He also appears to have a model I'm not familiar with; the LX430. Perhaps this model is capable of hosting a ten-bob LPG system, never suffers a flat battery due to the dilithium crystals and has a programme which automatically avoids Kwikfit depots. My wife said he's probably also confusing NOS and LPG...
  8. A large seldgehammer/pickaxe and a crowbar. what are you trying to achieve, it might either be not worth the hassle or a massive job or something very simple to do :)
  9. Everyone who comments on my MKIII remarks as to how quiet the engine sounds and, when I tell them its done 188k, they are gobsmacked. Camping at silverstone over the weekend, i had started the engine on my LS400 to charge my phone and make sure i didn't discharge the battery doing it, i then moved the car to in front of the tent about 20 mins later my wife asked from in the tent if i wanted the jump leads to start the car, I replied "what the one thats runnign 6 feet from you?" she was very surpised she couldn't hear it, it's done 229k now as well, again a mk3 1995. I'd still have a mk4 though :) hows your phone will discharge car battery? u barkin mate... Blah, As above simple law of physics, also car had been parked up for 3 days and had another phone to charge up and i didn't fancy having immobliser problems because of a discharged battery or jump starting in the middle of a field, during grand prix traffic restrictions.
  10. to be fair some, note thats some Kwik-fits aren't too bad, i'd NEVER go to fareham but gosport 4 miles down the road from it i generally find is fine (that and the staff drive a skyline/evo and some other nice car i can't remember so i thik they actually care a bit about customers cars). thanks for the warning.
  11. yes if you want a fuel tank that leaks and a system that blows your engine to bits. 2 hours? are you mad?
  12. Has anyone replaced there LS400's viscous fan with an electric one or know of where i can get a kit to do this? only realised otherday that i have a viscous fan (i hardly ever pop the bonnet and look in that area usually just check oil then close again. I had a sierra Xr4x4 with the 2.9 cologne engine and knew that taking off the viscous and sticking in electric fans from DOHC sierra used to give abig bonus to MPG and BHP and would like to do same for my LS400. thanks http://www.lextreme.com/fan.html http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/fanconversion.html hmmm anychance a mod could spell Viscous fan for me correctly thanks

  14. wait till petrol goes up past £1.20 again and then get mk3 for peanuts, thats what i did a couple of years ago then LPG'd it last year haven't looked back since :)
  15. if your getting 50mpg out fo a rover 75 diesel estate it's probably being towed by RAC trucks alot... that oir my wifes seat ibiza 1.9 TDi isn't as economical as it should be(42mpg on biodiesel, 50-55mpg on normal diesel). I've fitted my gas in november it paid for itself in a couple of months as i got rid of our third car and didn't need to pay out tax/insurance on it anymore plus the LPG savings. With a Marnelli (sp?) multi-point flash-lubed system i am getting 22mpg on motorway and 16mpg doing pizza deliveries around town, if i didn't drive at 80mph on motorway it'd probably get even better, fortnight ago travelling 5 up with luggage to an from alton towers at 70mph it did 23mpg so i imagine with just me that'd be 25-26 at least. Oh and yes the look oin peoples faces when i turn up in a LS400 delivering pizza's is easily worth the cost fo the conversion lmao.
  16. I've just posted an update on my LS430 conversion somewhere else in the forums - try searching for it. In summary I would recommend so far (only done 1000 miles, so can't vouch for longevity yet). Fuel economy suffers by 23% in my case, so factor that into your maths, but at 55k miles per year you'll pay back in under 12 months anyway. you MUST make sure you get an oiler kit fitted since all jap cars have soft valve seats which wear excessively with lpg (much 'drier' fuel) mines beenm great the last 15k since i've had it fitted :) multi-point with flashlube.
  17. about three years if thats how long the warrenty is otherwise less or more depending onm length of warrenty.
  18. Wow, 4,000 miles eh ! Let me have some of that. I'm lucky if I get @400 / 420 on a tankfull unless it's always on a good long steady run when the petrol consumption is rather kinder. Malc lol, yes my car has an LPG conversion so as soon as the engine has warmed up it stops using petrol, the mileage would of been further if i kept topping up the lpg instead of waiting till it ran out before re-filliung. the ferrari F1 teams fuel is very simular to the v-power on the pumps, it was brought in in '94 to reduce the power along with a cut from 3.5 litres to 3 litres and they still hit 1,000bhp in 05.
  19. i assume this is all Digital TV? there turning the Analogue signals off as we speak. http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch
  20. I have a mkIII and id kill for a MKIV, the mk3 doesn't have a none interference engine thats the 1 and 2, so same cambelt problem but with less poer and gears, but most should of had it replaced you'd be mad not to, if not just knock a tonne of money off there price, Is it the whole head light that needs replaceing or just the glass? I'd much prefer the mkIV's extra toys and new ness (rust will be a few years behind any mk3) Have you considered an early LS430? as someone above said LPG is a great bonus.
  21. That tank of fuel lasted up till 2 weeks ago and covered 4000miles, i still only use V-power or other hgih octane stuff it's just better :)
  22. to be fair if it's that damaged buy a new one there not that expensive.
