  1. My dad's a drivinmg instructor, the insuance on a driving school car even with a v8 and 260bhp is still far cheaper then normal insurance as the instructor will be in it and there very qualified etc and they'll have dual controls fitted (which in the case of autos is one extra big brake pedal in the passenger footwell, funny cause they charge more for them then the brake and clutch pedals they put in manuals, supply and demand at work I feel). There was a driving school called first Lotus that used to use an elise to do lessons in, not a bad idea when you think how light they are and they only have a 1.8 engine so not actually that thirsty. This came about because he said to me a while ago he was after a cheap auto so he could branch out into auto lessons and i said well you can get an LS for not much but the fuel bills will be higher although not hat different if your only doing 3k a year in it or you can spend more on a fiesta etc auto that'll use less fuel but won't scare off learners He went out somewhere for the day and rather then get lots of phone calls from out of his preferred area he took all the magnetic plates off his corsa and for a laugh i thought i'd stick them on my Lexus and photo it, if he had a spare set i'd stick them on the car when i go to the local shops and park up on the main street to generate some advertising as some above has sad it'd be a good publicity stunt :) It's getting LPG'd in 2 weeks so could even be economical:lol: (his fiesta is supposed to do 40mpg, the LS will cost about the same in fuel on LPG, although i'd say the biggest barrier to using one is 30-60mhp all feel about the same it's only the trees rushing by faster that let you know you've sped up). Here they are in there natural habitat:- http://www.stevelawley.co.uk The long black bit down the side of the car means you can't open the door on the LS because it goes over the gap between front and rear doors as it's for a 3 door corsa (he didn't see the point in paying extra for 2 doors he won't use often(the jokes on him now because they want the instructors to sit in the back on tests now)). He works in south Hampshire if anyone local knows someone who wants to learn to drive.
  2. Me, My Wife and My sister have all found sky insurance to eb the cheapest especially afer you mention you in an owners club, i think they have a link somewere around here. Use the comparison websites and phone up the uselessones who aren't on them then phne adrian Flux and sky every year and the last 4 years for myself sky have always seemed to be cheapest for us. Been with them since i owned an imported twin turbo GTO with 43 odifications (an being 23 at the time it was fun getting insurance )
  3. Blueprint do LS starters for £250 + Vat 12 month warrenty. Camberley auto factors do them i should imagine others would too :)
  4. can you give me a shout if you break it, there maybe a few parts i'm after :) thanks wonder how much noise it'd make with this fitted:- Big Charger :)
  5. whats the difference between mk1/mk2/mk3/mk4 exhaust and whats interchangeable? basically could i do something with my mk3 and transfer it to a mk4 at a later date?
  6. does anyone know where you can get a point of interests file with all the LPG sites on?
  7. You could always try fitting a LS engine with a supercharger or turbos ;)
  8. "Front brakes- Nissan 300ZX 1991 on. Ventilated 280mm / 11” dia. 4-piston alloy. Rear brakes:- Nissan 300ZX 1991 on. Ventilated 280mm / 11” dia. 4-piston alloy." Is it me or are those actually smaller then the standard LS 400 brakes? or is it just mk3's?
  9. Preilli P6000 last a long time but not greatest grip in world, Toyo CF1's have nice grip but i killed a set to bald in 7k on my seat cordoba diesel. Yokohama are quiet nice, you can get super soft or more conventional, but they can wear out quickly if driven hard and wet grip can be pants on some tyres. Make sure you get high enough tyre rating i think my MOT station fitted wrong rear tyres to my LS they are V rated which i've heard is only 149mph so no autobahn for me :)
  10. Or if your like me and do 45k a year roughly it'll be paid off in 9 months :) Although the actual reality is it'll be paid off the first time i fill it as i'll be selling my small diesel car for more then the conversion cost.
  11. think i've got it up to about 22-23mpg at the mo but haven't drained it enough to be worth filling again yet.
  12. whats the extra gadgets a 430 has over a mk4 400 then? and also to a slightly lesser extent what does a mk4 400 have over a mk3 400 (besides the extra 20bhp...)?
  13. can you fit a 94 litre tank in the spare wheel area? do you need to get a tyre-weld yourself or do they supply one? whats better? morreli or OMVL?
  14. I guess it's how you drive when i used ym lexus for work last week it did 19.89mpg....and as it says above for cost of LPG to petrol he got effectively 37mpg so thats 5 miles extra a gallon or about 16% further which is not to be sniffed at if you do lots of miles.
  15. in my case i bought one of the cheapest most reliable V8 cars in the world it's just a bonus it happens to be a Lexus :) I'd also like more noise then it has as standard as taking it to 6,000rpm to hear that the engine is running is a bit extreme
  16. 19mpg in power mode the last tank this one i'm being slightly more sensible with.
  17. if the chips anything like i've seen on much smaller engine you'll think you've had a supercharger fitted with the amount of torqe it'll open up. Is the 430 still on distributor cap and rotor arm or has it got a/2 coil pack/s?
  18. Camberley auto factors, as far as i know a national chain, although i may have spelt camberley incorrectly.
  19. Or use a well run place with quality tools that does have crap on the floor because he's got so much work to do because he's always in demand he never gets a chance to clean it.
  20. anymore details? is he certified? he'll have members banging his door down on that price for an 8 injector setup I'd definitely do the 500mile round trip for it. Seems so, he gives a 2 year written garantee & a conversion certificate for your insurance company. My mate who is a mechanic by trade & has fitted a lpg kit before, seems to think he knows what he is talking about & is going to run his LS up there soon to get it done. Mine cost me £1750 to convert using a BRC plug & drive kit, Im a bit gutted but Ive saved the difference from november to now in fuel costs so cant moan really. Sounds good how long does it take to fit? It'd probably be cheaper for me to get a holiday inn/travel lodge over night then to drive back home if it's a over nighter, or arrive at 8am if it's a one day job. thanks mark :)
  21. you can get a new blueprint starter motor with a years guarantee for about £250.
