  1. lol it's like they don't think we know tomtom exist the prices they try to charge...
  2. make sure ALL your tyres inc the spare have the right weight loading and speed rating, you need 150mph+ which i think is V/W/Z and 98w or over for weight, nothing like a blow out while your doing 100mph+ 4 up to kill everyone :) and obveriously the right tyre pressues (measured cold).
  3. I've fitted these a couple of thousand miles ago, nicely surprised that the discs haven't warped like they used to on FWD cars alot from what i've heard. I was just wondering is it normal to have your oil light come on when you do an emergency stop? never noticed it before fitting them and the oil level is just beow max, I'm guessing it's the oil carrying on in engine sump doing 50mph when the cars now doing 10mph or whatever and theres nothing at the pick up as it's all climbing up the front face fo the engine? As soon as the cars no longer decelerating the oil light goes off again. All my mates though i was going all boy racer again fitting the brakes, it's actually to fend off brake fade for when/if i ever get around to getting a caravan and towbar, (9mpg and no congestion charge should really p*** off the greenies lol)
  4. 2 year guarentee on a CAt is fine, sfter all there are no moving parts :) I've fitted the £60 upper control arms off ebay no problems at al :)
  5. i get around 15-17mpg around town with my gas you shouldn't be getting it as low as 10mpg.
  6. My immobliser committed suicide earlier thsiyear a local company came and removed it and fitted a new Cat 1 Alarm for £239 :)
  7. I carried most of that stuff for my son in my LS400 with no problem, maybe you had ones which where a touch large? Seriously though i know what you mean can't carry anythign long as seats don't fold down and the boot isn't that big for such a massive car. As someone else said, the older they get the less stuff you need, we're down to a changing bag and a pushchair if theres a lot of walking to be done and he's only 16 months old.
  8. My mk3 diff is leaking a bit, does the Limited-Slip Differentrial from a Soarer fit? or if the casing doesn't will the internals? Oh and does the mk3 or the mk4 LS400 have a LSD? and if the mk4 does and the mk3 doesn't does the mk4 LSD fit a mk3? oh and of course a Soarer beign a mkIV Supra do there diffs fit? thanks
  9. have you had it long? has it had the filter changed? 2 possibilities otherwise you could try taking it bac and asking them to double checkign everythgin si running right.
  10. did it flip like an A-class merc? no? well who cares then? You can flip a FWD shopping hatchback by simply hitting a kerb at the wrong angle, maybe they should ban all kerbs?
  11. FORTE is what we use butto be honest I don't use them. Your better bet is get the fuel injections clean with an ultrasonic bath. There are firms that do this. The difffernce is massive if the injectors haven't been changed every or over ten years. You'll find the horsepower will return and better fuel and pick up on ovet taking. You only have to check out the TOP GEAR scene when they rolling road a renault and find that just changing the injectors restored all the power to factory spec on the rolling road. no it was replaceing the Cracked inlet manifold that got the power back, air leaking/unmetered air doens't tend to work too well on these modern engines. All a waste fo money, if your injectors are blocked then your fuel filter isn't doing a very good job, if they do need cleaning (i have 225k and 260bhp...) the the ultrasonic bath (weren't these in star trek?) will do the job, the thigns you can put in your fuel tank aren't very good, bear in mind how good a solvant petrol is it should dissovle most thigns anyway.
  12. If you get a cheap lpg conversion done single point ( £700/800) your car would probably sell for around £2300 or you might end up keeping it as a cheap distance cruiser. no the cars with LPG only seem to get another £200-300. Put the car away in a garage or under a car cover and put a low mileage insurance policy on it, there not worth selling, i was looking at a cheap mk4 the other day didn't even think about selling my LPG mk3 just said to wife do you want it as it's worth FA to sell even with an LPG multi-point kit and won't cost much more then her car to run as she drives up and down motorway to work. The long and short of it is that unless it's a mk4 in very good condistion with low miles it's worth less then £1500 and that will drop even further if fuel prices go up more, i got ym current LS last time fuel was this price for £800 and noone could believe the price i paid in the time since, i then fitted an LPG conversion now i wonder if that is going to out last the car or the car outlast it as it's built so well, i'm surprised LExus didn't jump the gun and do 7 year warrenty's on these in the 90's...
  13. This is so true, my LS400 has been in garage getting arms done for MOT this last week i've been driving my wifes Seat and i keep hooning it round the roundabouts at work and generally caneing it, where as when i'm in the Lexus it soothes my instinct for racing around and cruise down the road listeing to the stereo very loudly whilst playing with the other toys Although i had my mate in it week before last and he said "i don't think anyone can get round this roundabout at more then 40mph" I promptly chucked the car in at 46mph and switched the direction of momentum on the exit while he had a very stunned look on his face (he owns an MG ZT 1.8 turbo which he thinks is the best thing since sliced bread for the cash he paid (£2500-3000)) So they can do bends but you need to know what your doing considering the weight but they do have the grip (tyres are 225/55/17 on mine and bigger on LS430's) Handling isn't the same as grip, Stirling Moss thinks the Jaguar D-type he drove in 1954 Le Mans was the best handling car he's ever driven, but nowhere near the grip later ones had.
  14. It's a dilemma. Do we: Vote for the party which has been making a pig's ear of just about everything? Vote for a party that thinks it is OK to set a pack of dogs onto one creature to tear it to pieces for entertainment? Vote for a party who have not governed for about 100 years? Monster Raving Loony Party, anyone? 1st one agreed. 2nd one, i'd rather the counrty worked well then worry about a fox, besides which the 1st party's law they brought in is so effective they simpley shoot the fox then set the hounds on it, a bit like setting lower speed limits then taking away the speed guns... 3rd, well technically if i remeber rightly the Liberals turned into labour after a merge and then later on Paddy Ashdown setup a new party? If you like the way this country and it's leadership are remember:- Vote Labour :) or Lib dem or other party unless you want a change to a good econermy and govwerment in which case Vote Conservative. That's it for me reading this topic or answering i don't want to get into any political debates...
  15. i think it's more age then use that kills the starter motor, mine went at 208k and 14 years old.
  16. Mine passed the emissions last weeka and week before on LPG (1st garage gave me a fault list of 4 pages i thought bollocks the car is fine, took it to my mechanic and the garage he uses gave uper and lower front suspension arm fails and rear right thats just behind the brake disc at top, also my rear brakes which apparently didn't work at all the previous test and the hand brake the same passed with flying colours.....). So should be fine on gas if not it's been setup wrong.
  17. I think the main reason you don't notice the increase in performance staright away is beacue you still have the lower octance stuff in injectors and pump and it takes a while to clear but you notice when you swap the other way as the engien has set itself up for 99 RON and is then getting knock because of comtamination with the lower octance stuff straight away for a few miles, i fill up once every month to 2 months so always use V power or tesco 99 RON, the LPG easily makes up for any extra cost, currently done 1500miles on the last tank of petrol and still haven't got to half empty...
  18. it's always the same the better car in anytest in a rag like autocar is one paying most advertiseing this month/year ;) My wife read a review between a mondeo and a vectra once, they where equal in every area except handling which the mondeo won hands down, the winner overall? The vectra, because the mondeo is a rep mobile, I'm confused whats a vectra then a Lunar Rover? Had lots of mondeo's recently swapped my wifes volvo for a 2001 Vectra SRi such a wonderful car, it's on ebay after 2 weeks............
  19. 2 months ago while i was filling up with LPG a woman parks up on the pump next to me and starts filling up her "S55 AMG" with diesel i thought thats going to be expensive as she'd been doing it for a while before i noticed i think realised the brake discs under her AMG alloys weren't as big as i expected and put 2 + 2 togther....all about looks nothing about substance, mind you i'm sure a 320CDi probably still burnsoff most cars that a S55 would (as in it's slower but then the S55 is very fast anyway), just the huge cloud fo black smoke would give it away...
  20. invension ? what dies this mean invention? if you unlpug 4 cylinders of your engines fuel injextors and take out the 4 spark plugs for those cylkinders you'll save lots fo fuel :) just don't come crying to me about the drt thats gets sucked into those 4 cylinders from having no filter..... 2 more ways to save fuel, drive more smoothly and back off earlier when accelerating and cruise up to junctions gentley instead of flooring it down the road and then stamping on the brake & ..........Buy a small car with better econermy, come on you drive a LS 400 whats did you think it was going to do 60MPG? could be worse look up the stats for a merc S600....
  21. £1399 I can get you £50 off this conversion if you let me know your going for it It is a a flashlubed multi-point system so it'll make sure your engine definetly won't get valve seat wear, i've been running my mk3 LS 400 on it for 6 months and 10,000 miles now no problems at all. Anymore questions let me knoe, it comes with 1 year warrenty on parts and 2 years on labour.
  22. This post conatins tl:dr a few years ago i was talking to a work mate about cars and she was saying about her 1.5 Diesel Clio being cheap to use because it did lots of MPG and had cheap insurance, i comepared it to my at the time 15 year old ford mondeo diesel i was running on vegetable oil and worked out i paid £5 more for insurance and got about 20 more miles per £ spent then her and my car could only lose £350 dereciation and that was only if i gave it away for free it was funny seeig the look on her face as she realised the lie she'd bought about "cheap" motoring by getting a small economical car over an older one that was thirstier, what made me laugh most though was all the poeple who didn't believe i'd got my Mk3 LS for £800, dispite the 18mpg it does it still costs less then most peoples cars to run when you factor in repairs and depreciation............and is still more comfortable and a dam nicer drive and now it's been on LPG for 6 months it's costing less to run then my workmates 1.4 Skoda fabia. tl:dr :- £12k supermini diesels aren't that cheap to run, and mroe expensive bigger cars are even worse.
  23. what year LS400 pads are you using? I know it's not quiet track racing but my EBC red stuff pads with DOT5.1 fluid hold up to me drving like a tit for 30mins+ at a time, i deliver pizzas and have an LPG conversion on my LS400mk3 which as said isn't track racing but does 0-60 in 7 secs and weighs 1600-1800kg (depengin on where you read+who is in it with me) so that a hell of a lot fo weight to keep slowing down the only better thing i could say is if i towed a caravan with it (as the brakes would be working even harder when ever your tryign to go downhill without accelerating).
  24. try and do a check on it for mileage as 60k is pretty ow for a 14 year old ls (mines a yar older and has 221k :) )
