  1. I have been driving for over 40 years and only in the past 2 years have I even noticed marks on car glass that can't be removed by anything from car shops. They appear to come from ice scrapers. What is going on. Forums recommend jewellers rouge but it is quite expensive and no guarantee of success. I think the best course might be to pay a car glass guy to remove them with specialist equipment rather than experiment with "products". Problem is the problem comes back as soon as you use an ice scraper. My IS200 is 8 years old. For the first 6 years, no problem.
  2. The 250C will do well sales wise. Soft top saloons are all about looks and class. This car hits the spot.
  3. I believe most renewal quotes are a try on. You can get a better quote from the same company by applying on-line. Best to shop around all others. Insurance costs are pretty hefty these days.
  4. Cheeky, yes. Did have the desired effect because it disarmed you. His luck will run out one day. There are people about who don't understand "sorry" and are armed.
  5. Had an issue with starting. Starter motor was lively enough. Tried using Total Unleaded and, over a couple of tankfuls, the performance picked up and starting became spot on. Could be pure coincidence or it could better additives in Total petrol keeping things cleaner. Slightly more expensive than supermarkets and Shell but well worth it.
  6. There are fake ones of those as well. Perhaps the best way is to hand the cash over at a bank counter in exchange for the docs/keys.
  7. Go to wiperblades.co.uk and get their own brand. Will cost you £14.15 delivered next day. Absolutely brilliant. Best replacement I've ever had. They are jointless and make standard ones look like something Noah used on his ark.
  8. I think a lot of creaks/rattles are in fact the noise created by the sudden release of tension between two surfaces. Trouble is we expect that sound to be a sqeak. My son's car had a rattle from the door, and I mean rattle. He just light lubed the mating surfaces of the door rubbers. No more rattles.
  9. On servicing, if you don't use a main dealer and there is a grey area type problem of any kind, you may not get any goodwill from the manufacturer. The value of the goodwill could be quite substantial. I suspect, with Lexus, that goodwill gestures are quite common because of their high JD Power rating. Perhaps with some other manufacturers goodwill gestures are few and far between. In those cases I wouldn't go dealer servicing. On OEM items, it staggers me how long original Japanese bulbs last. As soon as you have to replace one with a reputable make at a car spares place they seem to last about 2 years max.
  10. Turned out to be a bad contact on the "screw on" aerial. I just unscrewed it wiped the thread and put it back on. Fault cured and the radio sounds better.
  11. My son has a Mazda 3. He complained about a passenger door rattle. It was quite loud on roughr roads. I sat in the passenger seat and we set of very slowly along on bumpy road. I opened the door just slightly and hey presto no rattle. He just put some cold candle wax all around the door seal. That was 6 months ago and it hasn't returned. I think it is caused by the rubber seals drying out. A bumpy road releases the tension between the surfaces emitting a rattle sounding noise. It explains why no amount of mechanical rebuilding fails to solve the problem. Had a similar problem donkeys years ago with an instrument binnicle.
  12. Has anyone ever had a radio on an IS200 which loses its signal for 1-2 secs every so often?
  13. NobleSX, Hope you get your seat sorted. A physio told me that car seats are a major cause of backache. A lot of them like very few of them. A problem you may have if you raise the front squab is that you may be compressing your thigh muscle when you change gear, if manual.
  14. I would air on the side of caution with who you let near a cambelt change simply because consequences of a ***** up being catastrophic. You would have the best comeback if done by Lexus especially if you have a full Lexus history. Failing that a Toyota dealership. In my experience, some main dealers are no more expensive than a good inde. but you do need to shop around. Definitely get the water pump changed. Something a local back street garage neglected to do on a former Toyota when they changed the belt. The pump seized and stripped the teeth on the belt - wrecked engine.
  15. Couldn't be doing with all that faffing about. When my son's Civic radiator went he got a recon version fiited by a radiator specialist for £80 including coolant in 1 hour. It came with a 12 month's warranty. No problems. He even demonstrated the leak location using a pressure test.
  16. Exactly my experience on a completely different car. Can't understand why Lexus use them. Pretty big saving on price also. However if you are going into Bridgestone price territory, the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 might be better particularly if you have a wayward back end in the wet.
  17. In my experience with the IS200, the a/c only smells for a while after it has been switched off. Have you tried the Wynn's stuff. I followed the instructions for cleaning with the pollen filter out and it cured it for a good 12 months. Hope you sort because it is an awful smell.
  18. These batteries are very common. Car spares shops have them for a couple of quid.
  19. I agree with the sentiments expressed so far. In 2006 I test drove a IS250 and a 325i. Interestingly, both cars suffered from the same flaw of over refinement. Many people see this as a plus point as the sales figures clearly show. For me, driving needs to be a tactile/organic thing not like watching the television. I felt my IS200 came closer to this ideal, so I didn't trade it in. Instead we kept it in the family as a 2nd car and have not regretted the decision. I still enjoy driving it even though I now drive a far more powerful AWD car (6MPS). There is so much that is right about the IS200 and not a lot that's wrong. Poor MPG is probably the worst thing but after that, not a lot. Part with your IS200 and weep. In its day the Cortina 1600E was a similar sort after car way after its demise. I bet a good example is now worth thousands.
  20. I think an independent would love that kind of business, and they certainly wouldn't argue about Mintex pads.
  21. Not surprised your father in law looks pleased. A shared joy is a so much better sight than jealousy. I wish I knew somebody with one. I used to be a fan of the M3 but since discovering that it often needs an engine rebuild at 50K miles and they are not that reliable, I have changed my view. I just can't imagine a Lexus being like that. And that's before you start taking the dealers into account.
  22. Do some shopping at Sainsburys. Spend £50 in the shop and get 5p per litre off your next tank fullup. In our area it is the cheapest anyway and I've heard it's BP. You also get nectar points. They will be giving ot away next. lol.
  23. This situation is one of the most scary things I have ever heard. The stuff of nightmares. If the brake pedal was solid then it warrants a complete stripdown of the brake system until the fault is found followed by a full safety recall. The car should not be driven at all.
  24. In my experience, if you are very specific about the spec you want, life gets very difficult. A simple reason is that what you want, lots of others want so the used car supply is poor, especially in these economic times. Perhaps seperating the "essential" from the "desirable" might help. Best of luck anyway.
  25. Mine has not had a knock and now the other side doesn't full retract.
