  1. Looks like a really nice car for not much money to me. Remember, an LPG conversion will set you back over a grand.
  2. Now then... heres an idea. A Madge Harvey Benidorm scooter with an LS400 motor. Happy days or what. dream on big fella. dream on.
  3. Hang on a minute...you had an X type that was a disaster but you wouldnt say no to a XJS? Are you mad? I cannot help laughing while i type this. I love the XJS and especially the 5.3 V12 but it has got to be one of the most unreliable luxury cars ever made.
  4. Sir John, the PAS cooling pipe, would that be the one which comes over from behind the drivers headlight in rubber, transfer into rust do a single loop with a bit of a kink near the C/L of the car and return back up to behind the headlight leaving a pool of fluid dripping off the front edge of the under tray? What size pipe should it be? and you've had no vibration hardening issues with using copper? Regards Iain That the one mate. I used 10mm micro bore plumbers pipe. it bends really easily. The piece i used was a second hand bit that i found in my scrap box. I fitted it 2 years ago and its never leaked or fractured. You probably know though that copper pipe becomes brittle if you play about with it too much. By the way, the original pipe has olives soldered to the ends to help secure the rubber to it. My replacement pipe hasnt. I always ment to replaceit with a new piece of copper pipe with olives by never got round to it. Have fun. IMHO we have he nicest LS there is.
  5. Welcome to the club. 300 mile drive home in an LS...LOVELY.
  6. Hi there and welcome. You have the same year as mine. While you are looking at the PAS pump seal (i did the o ring last year and it worked a treat) id suggest you look at the pipes that take the PAS fuid to the cooling pipe just under the radiator. If you get down and look through the vents in teh bottom of the front bumper you will see it. If it hasnt been replaced it will go any time soon. I also had a leak in one of the pipes just behind the OS head lamp. I put up a tutorial a few months ago. Do a search for it. Re the electrical faults; theres a common failure of one of the wires in the boot lid hinge. That on here too and the lexls site Steve mentioned. It causes all sorts of wierd faults. When you find the casue of your rear end wander let me know. Mine does it a bit. One last tip. Under the accelerator pedal is a buttom. When you floor it, press a bit harder/through the button. She really flies then. :winky: Happy driving. EDIT; heres the link http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=70681&st=0&p=742107&hl=sir%20john&fromsearch=1entry742107
  7. thats the same anywhere - on the Passat forum there are loads of issues with the latest model, but I've ha dno issues with mine seems all the issues on here for the Ls seem to be coolant related - its what mine is... Hope its an easy fix Hi Lawsy, Sorry to hear you are having a few problems. Let us know what they are and im sure we will be able to find a fix.
  8. Steve, that is just brilliant.. i didnt spot it until i read britrb`s comment. Id love to put that up on the Rover forum but i think ill wait until ive sold the Rover and dont need their help any more. Im sure some of my fellow Rover owners wont find it funny. And they are a very helpful bunch. As for the 1.8 cylinder head issue. It doesnt come up any more so i assume they are all dead or sorted.
  9. I love being part of our forum community. You have a little problem, you put it up there and we all help out if we can. Happy days. I am also on the Rover 75 forum because im stupid enough to have a Rover 75 CDT. That too is a great community of helpful like minded owners. So what have we Lexus owners to be cheerful about? Well, the Lexus forum, like i say, has posts about the odd little niggle. The Rover forum has everything from trim dropping off to major mechanical disasters. And i mean a lot of them. Common problems (very common) "car wont start, AC not working, clutch failed, springs broken, engine warning lights on, cooling fan packed up, emmission, tracking (would you believe they all came out of the factory scrubbing the NSR tyre to bits) auto gear box failure, Mass Air Flow failures, stuck thermastat, fuel pump failures. The list is endless. If Rover fitted it, "it " will probably be faulty. So there you are. Lexus. 1 big reason to be cheerful. Thanks Lexus. And i bloody love mine.
  10. At that sort of money for a kit, it might be just as cheap to have the pros fit it. i have found 2 registered outlets that will do it for £950 all in. I was hoping to do it for about 1/2 that. Oh well......
  11. Apparently this does not make it too loud just sound a bit nicer according to other forums ;) Andy "Sounds a bit nicer"! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sounds nice to me. But im an old fogie and load noises make me grumpy. Now where did i put those Werthers Originals?
  12. I should have had the LS converted 3 years ago when i had the money but....... Anyway, i need to bring the fuel bills down so that i can drive th eLS rather than the Rover CDT. Im thinking of doing a DIY conversion. Im pretty handy with the tools so the actual conversion shouldnt be a problem. Question is; have you done this conversion? or can you tell me what system your 93 LS is running on so that i can source the correct parts. PS; ive just done my monthly 660mile round trip to Suffolk in the Rover @ £90. Would have been nice to do it in the LS but at £150+........
  13. Hi. I want to wish you well with the quest for an LS. Personal; choice: i like the 93 version looks. Can i make a sugestion here for the forum as a whole. I also have a Rover 75 (yes i know,,why have you got a Rover 75? they are rubbish) and im on the Rover 75 forum (you have to be otherwise you wouldnt know how to fix their many faults) They have a posting that is permanently at the top of the forum page. I dont know what t you call it but its a read only thing i think that is there for referrence. It has all the things to check when viewing a prospective purchase. Maybe we could hev something like that. Put together with the experience of long term owners as a quick guide to new or prospective owners. Just an idea.
  14. No. If it what o think it is, it sits inside the lower edge of the bumper. There should be someting in each of the holes for the bolts to thread into. This, as i say, is fixed inside(on top of) the lower edge of the front bumper and the tray bolts through the lower edge of the bumper into that bar. They are more like machine screws than bolts to be far. Hope that helps. PS. where are your trousers? EDIT. im thinking that there should be some plastic inserts for the machine screws to bolt in to.
  15. Very interesting.. Heads a bit battered by the worst week in a very long time but ill dip into it agina sometime soon. Well done that man.
  16. that was my thought as well. The bit of metal through which the under tray bolts along the leading edge. More worrying though......Why arent you wearing any trousers? Im guessing those in the picture are yours?
  17. Re the motor trader; Im sure there is a trust worthy SH motor trader somewhere, but i have never met him. Those i have had dealings with are either rude arragant a***holes or smooth "im an honest trader" but im going to shaft you all the same smoothies. But im just bitter. I have a "really nice, just like new, proper car this one, perfect, nothing wrong with it" Freelander that has been sitting on my drive for 5 months with a broken transmission. I hope you guy is different.
  18. Think yourself lucky you dont have to drive a Rover 75. The fuel guage tells more lies than an MP with an expenses form. Im in the Rover for long trips now (cause of the fuel) and the fuel guage needle is up and down like a bad girls knickers when the army`s in town.
  19. Try putting wax on the draw sliders (or runners) white caddles are best because they dont leave a visible line. It will work much better than chalk. Even so, still not as good as cockpit shine! OK OK OK! Cockpit shine is best. I give in. But when i served my apprentiship in the 70s/80s (cabinet making) we didnt have Cockpit spray and all the old guys had a piece of candle wax in their apron pocket. There; now you have made me say "apron" and everyone will think that all cabinet makers are cross dressers. Which they arent....its the french polishers who were the cross dressers!
  20. How come you guys are getting 30+mpg? and Manicmark: 37? I dont doubt these figures at all, but there must be something wrong with mine. I used to get 26ish and 28ish on a long run (I brim to brim it a lot) Over the last 12 months its down by about 4mpg. Come on guys...help me out...whats wrong with the old girl. I have noticed recently that there is a lot of condensation from the exhausts.??????
  21. I was there 6 months ago. Still am in some respects. I bought a Rover 75 CDT for the cheaper running. Within a month it needed an alternator = £308. It also had 70% tyres. Good i thought, lots of miles in them so more savings. Wrong! ive done about 4k miles and 2 of them are almost shot. I still have the LS and love every minute i drive in it. I still have the Rover and its ok (48mpg over the last 2 weeks/712 miles) but its proved less reliable and heavy on tyres. By the way: i still have it as the family second car becasue the Freelander packed up. Ive come to understand that fuel is only one factor. 1 big repair bill can wipe out the saving a diesel might bring. If you have the money, my advice would be convert to LPG and haggle like mad for a good price on the conversion. I deal with the finances of small businesses every day and most are hungry for work. Good luck mate. I feel for you.
  22. Re loosiing grip on roundabouts; id put that down to tyres. Mine has never lost grip. Im on Avon ZX and they have already done about 18k miles. as for the otehr stuff you are missing, i had all that on my Renault Megan Privelage 53 plate. Nice car but its not a Lexus. PS: mine has the phone controls on the steering wheel. The original Lexus phone was still fitted when i bought he car. It was in the centre arm rest. I took it out and there is no sign it was there.
  23. Try putting wax on the draw sliders (or runners) white caddles are best because they dont leave a visible line. It will work much better than chalk.
  24. I think you are all being a bit harsh on the vendor. Hes obviously parked his pride and joy in a less than celubrious area where the local ner-do-wells have tagged it. I dont think!
