  1. My wife has just remarked that we are all saddoes! She drives a Freelander and we are the saddoes???? I dont think so pet! Now get on with the washing up.
  2. Is that why "Mums go to Lexus!" There was an LS on ebay a few years ago which was originally owned by Bill Gates. I bet it had Windows and a nice Vista. Sorry
  3. Easy fix this one....buy a Rover 75 Diesel. I did. Its doesnt really stop you putting your foot to the floor (actually it makes you do it more) but when you do, nothing happens. So in a way, your cured. Sorted. The Rover is on ebay; 140484011639 Warning to all Lexus owners; dont bid. you will be disapointed after a Lexus. I was.
  4. Forgive me for suggesting this but have you checked the wiring loom that runs in the boot hinge? Check out one of the other recent postings. Apparently a broken wire here can cause all sorts of funny business. The other thing that occured to me (again, i apologise if this is a bit simple) but is the fuel filter flowing freely? A Lexus powered 4x4 sounds good though!
  5. Heres a link to the article in the telegraph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/road-safety/8151547/Winter-tyres-are-they-worth-it.html
  6. The difference is detailed in this article. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/road-safety/8151547/Winter-tyres-are-they-worth-it.html Interesting stuff. PS. my wifes Landrover Disco was fitted with normal road tyres through last winters snow. As soon as you took your foot off the accelerater it was no better than the LS. If you touched the brakes you might as well have been on those skies you were trying to get into your boot earlier.
  7. The first owner of my LS was Sir John Harvey Jones. The big bloke who used to be CEO of ICI and business guru of the BBC TV show Troubleshooter: where he famously advised Morgan cars to drop all that oldie worldie rubbish and go modern. Whos ghost sits on the back seat of your LS when you drive home alone at night?
  8. Avon for me every time. last set of 4 set me back about £380 last year. Before you buy though, look at last weeks Saturday Telegraph motor section. There was a great piece on winter tyres. You can get it on line i think. If not let me know and ill get the info onto the forum somehow.
  9. Great news. And she looks good too. I think you have doen the correct thing in getting one thats just been about run in for you. The tax on the Rubbish (rover) 75 is up in a week and she goes on e-bay this weekend. So ill be back in my LS in a week too. Woooooh, am i looking forward to that.
  10. That wouldnt be Jimmy Clarks Lotus 23 raming the rear wheel of a 6 wheel Tyrell would it. And where did the model Lexus come from.. I want one.
  11. The o ring i fitted is the one in the gasket kit from toyota/lexus. It just seemed a bit thin for the groove it went in to. Everything felt firm though and no drop in fluid level this morning. Ive got kitchen roll tucked under it to tell if its still leaking.
  12. Have you looked on the tutorials. Heres a link. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ There isnt much about the stereo system but you mioght spot something in one of the pictures. PS. please dont get tempted to fill your boot with subwoofers though.
  13. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/rearseat.html'>http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/rearseat.html Click on the link. It should take you to the "how to remove the rear seats. Mine os a 93 LS bit didnt have the tabs talked about in the tutorial. I just had to give them a bloody good pull. One side then the other. This link takes you to the tutorials in general. Well worth putting into your favourites. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ good look mate. always wanted a parrot.
  14. Doing a few jobs ready for the old girls return to the road in a couple of weeks. But...the headlamp washers that worked when i got the car 2+ years ago packed up about a years back. With the ignition switched on, headlamps on (car is in the workshop so i can see the beam pattern on the wall) they dont work when i push the HL washer button. But its not far to say that nothing happens. When i push the washer button i can hear a faint click and at the same time i can see the headlamp beam and the dash lights dim for about a second or two. It doesnt matter how long i hold the button down for it only clicks and dims for a second. So, im guessing that the fuse isnt blow and the button is working. There is no water on the floor so the pipe isnt leaking or detatched. Any ideas? Thought did strike me (though sounds a bit thick) is there a seperate washer bottle for the headlamp washers?
  15. With the LS still in the workshop while i sell the Rubbish 75, sorry, Rover 75, i thought id fix the PAS pump leak. I bought the full PAS repair kit from Toyota 2 years ago. Today, removed the pump reservoir. Had to use a needle to get the old O ring out. It eventually snapped. It was hard and had no elesticity left in it. I put the new O ring in the groove but it didnt fill the groove very well. It looks a bit thin and im sure i could have got 2 O rings in there. Does this sound right to the guys who have done this job? Fingers crossed.
  16. Good to hear you have fixed the problem. At one time i thought the cause might have been you getting the milk and the petrol mixed up at the petrol station. (If I have to stop the engine for any reason (e.g. 'cos I've popped to the garage to get milk or petrol), then the misfire appears. ) A wee tip if you do the disis and rotas without changing the timing belt. The disi caps are held by 8mm bolt. Tie a loop of spring through the closed end of the spanner. That way, when you drop it, which you will, you wont have the heart sinking panic i had.
  17. What the bl**dy hell were they thinking of when they put it in there? I just hope to god that mine doesnt go.
  18. Looks well sexy mate. Always liked the clear indicator. Where did you get them from and, dare I ask, how much?
  19. Many of us have a favourite make of tyre but "best grip/value"? One of the reasons i drive a big thirsty car rather than a small "economical" car is that, in the split second before i hit a tree, i dont want to be thinking "i wish i had spent more money on a bigger safer car, rather than this tiny box that im probably going to die in". The same goes for tyres as far as im concerned. Sorry if i sound a bit arsie.
  20. i think its time for another membership status in addition to "new member" "advanced member" "guru" ect ect.. Hands up all those who have followed this thread and think that fuddymucker should be awarded "hero" status for sticking with something that would have had many of us chucking it in. keep it up fuddymucker.. you give us all hope.
  21. i had a similar thing on an LDV van of all things about 10 years ago. It was the bearing in the middle of the prop shaft giving up the ghost. worth a look.
  22. Read in the sat telegraph motor section today that Autoglym do an AC and incar anti bacterial cleaner..£12.99
  23. There have been some plug ugly cars over the years but the bmw 1 is by far the ugliest...by a mile. As for the looks of the LS, I have to take a stance. I really think that the mk1 is a fine looking car. It looks like a car should. The new baby Lexus on the other hand looks like a cheap hatch back. Sorry Lexus but you should stick to what you do best.
