  1. I have just come back from France after having done 3000 miles and saw one Lexus and that was a German IS. I guess they are not very popular - having said that, anything, other than small french sh*t boxes are conspicuous by their absence. Anything remotely expensive i.e. above a BMW 3 series was just non existent or foreign registered. p.s. I averaged 27 mpg on computer which equated to 22mpg on LPG. This was four up, fully loaded, roof box on all the time and aircon on all the time. It also included a 2 mile round trip every day for the morning croixants. The petrol cost equivalent mpg was 50.01 mpg - not bad eh.
  2. absolutely fine - I get about 28mpg equivalent on town driving (factoring in petrol costs as well) and about 55 ish on motorway. I had 65mpg on a recent trip to and from Birmingham in traffic so was doing 60ish most of the way. £1800 for the conversion and it runs fine. It should pay for itself within about 16 months.
  3. you can get an ipod adaptor with a tape on the end of it,( i presume the 430 has a tape player as well as cd) mine does - thats what I use, but it does have a tendency to 'buzz' on high volume. - don't try those radio transmitter ones they are 'sh*te'. (well the three that I have tried have been)
  4. Ha Ha - yuo may laugh but one guy on the 200sx forum posted his car had been stolen and could people keep an eye out. repoprted it to the police and insurance etc. turned up 2 weeks later where he had left it! Lets say he didn't live it down for a while.
  5. Lexus doesn't seem to have the presence of the other big 3 - Jag, Merc and Beemer - but thats fine by me, keeps the prices down. I find it fairly anonymous. I've had mine a few months, but I love wafting around in it. I have found myself getting excited about the 900 mile drive to France for our summer holiday - I think I need to get out more. I am a totally different person in it - I drive my other car like I've stolen it, whereas the lexus i drive like a chaufeur. I say lets keep the lex our own little secret.
  6. I can only see one on Autotrader even close to 5k and thats a bit of a bargain at 5.3k - the rest of the 100k ers are the thick end of 6k. Not looked at ebay though
  7. you might struggle finding a ls430 for 5k without stellar milage - I think your looking at 5-6k try looking at late LS400's you may save some money and be able to LPG it.
  8. its fairly easy once you know how - 2 minute job - the bitch is finding the bulb when you don't know where it is On the drivers side remove the fuse box thingy which is above the lights - just undo screws and push aside looking from the windscreen towards the back of the light you will see a big round unit which is the self leveling system - do not remove this its a b*st*rd to get back in (I know I did it). the side light is below this unit on the left hand side at about 5 oclock. the bulb actually goes in at the side right angles to the reflector and not how you would think i.e. thru the back of the reflector like most bulbs. P.S. instructions are for the drivers side - bulb will be at 7 oclock on passenger side.

  10. two factors though - one is that age is on its side so many niggley things that happen with 'old' cars shouldn't happen - I'd be more worried at a 15 year old car with 180kmiles than a 5 year old one. secondly with those amounts of miles the hardest terrain its probably done is the gravel drive on the way to the golf club. Motorway miles are easy miles - I'd be happier having a car thats done an average 15k than one done 1k per year -
  11. It's been a while and forgot tom leave some results from this item. Firstly heres the results form the item fitted to my car. The car was filled up at a local supermarket(Mor?) for all four tests using their petrol. The car did with the item fitted on 95 octane to a full tank with the low level light coming on. 1) 330 2) 328 So tried the car with high octane fuel and was suprised with the results. 1) 310 2) 308 I found the car was worse on the high octane 98 fuel on the standard ECU so never going to use that dear stuff again on this car. I will now remove the vortex and see how it goes on both fuels. I know some people will mention more or less millage on their car but this was on my car with my driving style and weekly millage. I will update the results from removing the item in due course. Well after a few weeks I can report this result to settle the myth once and for all hopefully. I have now removed the device and refilled the car with the same supermarket unleaded fuel as before to see if there is a change in the result of the millage on one tank. The result of the test of the item removed is as follows. A) 315 B) 318. This result shows that my car done more millage with the same fuel and trip as before with then item fitted. It done around 10 to 20 miles a tank more with the item fitted. So my own opion I say the item does work but not as much as they say, But a worthy investment as only around £5 to buy, So after a few tanks fulll of petrol you should have had your money back on the item. Before the arguements all I can say it worked on my car for the test which took a few months to do. The most suprising result was the car run worse on high octane fuel compared to 95 octane fuel. I'm now offf to try a air induction kit to see if that is any better than the standard air box. Will post results when ready to do so. Its witchcraft I tell thee, burn him, burn the witch. :D
  12. deja vu http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=61135 I'd canvas round the office and jokingly ask what people think - chances are most people will run a mile at a 4.3L V8 car thats done 180k - and you might get it for an absolute song. sealed bid is a pain though. Parkers says about 9k with 50k on the clock I assume its got FDSH. then adjust for mileage. Autotrader has one a 2003 at 110k for £7.5k I'd go in stupid low something like 4-5k and if you win your quids in - get it lpg'd and your laughing.
  13. might be worth investigating if you qualify for free congestion if you convert to LPG
  14. one - more like a flock, or a flying elephant with the squits
  15. dunno if its a self learning system - its omvl. I did go back after about 500 miles cos it was switching over to petrol under hard acceleration (didn't try this to start with cos they say 'run in the system' for 500 miles or so), they tweeked the map again. but I had to go back again cos it was still doing it. They kept it for a day the second time and traced the problem to an airlock in the system. Its been fine since. The initial install took 5 days ish In my research before I had it done figures of mpg loss were stated at about 10-20%. I was partly expecting to be the lower end cos of the system. even so I am more than happy with the 'effective' mpg - I might ask them to look at it again if I am in the area or when it needs a service, but I can't be bothered driving to the garage as a special journey, its a 45 mile, nearly 2hr round trip
  16. Hey Sparky. Don't forget you'll need a gun converter for France. If you go into Belgium & Holland you'll need another gun converter again. (it the same gun converter for Belgium & Holland) You'll find these on eBay. Jeff yeh thanks, I've already got one - I came across this 'problem ' when reading up on it. I've also planned all my LPG stops on the way down using the french website and also know the nearest one to where I am staying :D After 2 and a bit months of owning the car, I've just done my first 'motorway only' journey on LPG. 228 miles using 38 litres at 43p per litre. based on Petrol being 101.9, that equates to 64.63mpg :D not bad for a 4.3l V8 barge. The motorway was pretty busy all the way so I was probably averaging between 60-70 most of the way. Computer showed 33mpg and the real MPG was 27 so basically I'm loosing just under 20% mpg - which surprised me bearing in minds my system is one of the new multiple seqential systems.
  17. free Oil change and Safety check whats that about? Free is my favourite word - after 'moist'.
  18. Aren't the EU putting in legislation on 'range wide emmissions' must meet an average. Maybe Lexus can't meet these unless they are counterbalanced by smaller cars - hence being treated as Toyota. reach the 140 g/km target by 2008/09—the average 120g by 2012
  19. Bladeboy. New alloys just like the LPG on my car don't affect my premium. I spoke to my insurance co and they wern't bothered. I got some new quotes and the best ones still came in under £400 fully comp & protected NCB. slight aside.......I got £80 off my insurance for going LPG - which was a nice surprise.
  20. You can get a book on ebay with most lpg sites on, not up to date as more station are getting pumps fitted especially bp & shell. UK http://www.autogas.ltd.uk/whereToBuy.htm you can buy the book as said - If you buy the book it has an access code on the back giving you access to the members bit of the above. you can download SatNav POI's if you have a aftermarket' savnav system. just do a google on POI LPG there are a few sources France http://stations.gpl.online.fr/
  21. I wouldn't go for them - they don't say they are not hub centric - none hub centric can cause issues with wheel wobble. I'd go for the H&R spacers - best ones out there - thats if they make them for the Lex. They cost more but they are worth it. What PCD are lex hubs 114? EDIT just checked and they are 114 and 61 for the LS400 according to a site I've just seen
  22. Lets start with the easy stuff - by the sounds of it your not loosing water - so that rules out head gasket, and general leaks. but keep an eye on it - air lock - quite common cause especially if you have filled it up recently - - check the RAD for any cold spots when wam - this wouild indicate a blocked RAD - quite possible but probably wouldn't be intermittent - check thermostat - your doing that. - ensure fans kick in ok - if not then thats your problem - guage/sensor/sender dodgy - less easy to check - auto electrician but the intermittent nature makes that hard
  23. I think its just part of the maximising economy and lowering emmissions - the standard setup just wants the highest gear possible and when you are pottering, staying in one gear is more desirable, in economy mode the.............. pootle = upshift - apply bit of gas downshift - pootle upshift again etc etc.
