  1. Sway bars also known as anti roll bars. These will give your car less body roll in bends. seems to me this guys problem is in a straight line as hes suggesting speeds in excess of 35mph!!. The only time my car does what your explaining is under hard accelaration when one wheel looses traction kicking the car side ways slightly when it regains grip. Does it worse in the wet espesially over wet man hole covers. If your used to driving front wheel drive car you will have noticed the same effect with the steering wheel pulling to one side as you throttle hard. My front wheel drive coupe turbo is shocking for it. For better rear grip i have changed tyre size on the rear to 245 40 17. run the tyres at 44 psi. But buy a quality tyre cheaper tyres have a week side wall and will wobble like hell in high speed bends. The bigger tyre size was suggested to me by my tyre supplier (supplier to the trade) who personally owned an is 200 and had contacted lexus and various tyre manufacturers and came up with the size and even a yokohama brand and a certain tread pattern.
  2. As a mechanic/mot tester of 20 years personally i would ignore the volt metre on the dash. When you starting the car you need amps not volts. Amps is the power. A battery can have 12 volts but with no amps it will never start anything. If your going to test the battery test it loaded like suggested see what the gauge says when actually trying to start the car. Failing that put your volt meter on the battery and switch on as much electrical as you can your volt meter will drop like a stone. This isnt the best way to test it but better than guessing.
  3. If your not happy with any job take it back.Paint work is hard to get right, your opinion of good will be someone elses idea of not good enough. Colour matching is hard (due to enviromental influances on the paint} but if its just the finish a good buff will get rid of the orange peel look providing theres enough paint on the panel. A proper job should be clear coated and only clear coated ontop of a gloss coat that has been flatted back. I used to run my local classic car club and the detailing some people did couldnt be achieved from a spray gun of any kind, no matter who sprayed it. The detailing is the important bit after any paint job. One of my neighbours is a sprayer and he admits putting the paint on is the easy bit the prep and the finish it the skill. Depends on what job you paid for. If you paid for a job just to get rid of the marks and look right again then thats the job youve had. If you explained you wanted a mint job like glass then you havent got that job. If you have only had the car back a few days and the sprayer doesnt have an oven then he wont buff the paint anyway until it sets properly so you wont have that glass finish. My sprayer charges roughly £80 a panel for a colour match get rid of scratches blow over job. He recently painted the roof on my IS i told him i wanted a mint finish so the job was £200.
  4. I get about 25 mpg out of my standard is200 manuel. Amongst other cars i have a rover coupe turbo heavily modded. For a grand you just cant buy a quicker car, but then at 12 ish to the gallon i dont think you can get much more expensive to run either. I used to run a 3500cc sd1 rover v8 this returned 13mpg. So at 25mpg from my 200 its better looking and and just all round better to drive. Besides after watching a recent tv program on Dave its not about the mpg or the looks or the comfort, apperntly its about getting a woman to touch your nob, so they said on the telly anyway.
  5. I never said anyone was dodgey. The title is POSSIBLE dodgey. I also didnt mention anyones name. The seller has now contacted me and again promised to send the items out to me. My point of making the post was to promt the seller into sending the items which, if they arrive as promised tomorrow, it will have worked. I certainly didnt say anyone was dodgey or mention anyones name.
  6. Hey dont start firing shots at me i didnt mention any name. If the guy couldnt get to post them he should have said when i bought them. I waited a week before the first pm he said he would post them 3 days later, thats a week and a half before he even posted them. If he did post them out on the day he said they should have arrived today. I dont know the guy personally some of you may know hes ok guy all i know is hes got over a hundered quid of my money has had it 2 weeks and i havnt got my lights yet. What makes it worse from my side is i have a busted rear light and its been that way 3 weeks. I am a car mechanic/mot tester by trade and having a busted light on my car isnt good for business and i am getting fed up with the jokes coming my way.The postal strike shouldnt be a problem i have had no disruption in anything else i have bought of ebay in the last 2 weeks. Like i said i havent mentioned any names so not slagging anyone off so no harm done to any person, name or reputation its not my fault should the guys name get mentioned. I not jumping to conclusions either, unlike ebay theres no feeback scores on here so i sent cash totally on trust, would any of you hand over cash to a total stranger in the street on his say so that he would sort it for you??. No you wouldnt, but thats how it work when buying on here as mentioned i not jumping to conclusions i am buying the lamps because i NEED them.
  7. As the title says really. I bought a set of lights off a memebr of this site paid for them via paypal. Waited a week ,, nothing. Sent an email to the seller he replied he would be sending them in 3 days from date of email. That should have been last wednesday when he sent them, still nothing today. Not wanting to name names just yet hoping the seller spot this and gets them sent. I am only buying the lights as one of mine got smashed by a truck 3 weeks ago and the police begining to circle.
  8. Key cutting in manchester area no problem. Opposite Dukinfield town hall company called key fax. If you stand with your back to the town hall you will see a pelican crossing. Use the crossing and you will walk straight into keyfax front door. Cant really miss the place. They will cut, reprogram and suply any key for just about any car. Pretty certain they will only get blanks from the dealer but they will cut your own blank if you take them one.
  9. Had reply last night. Send the whole kit back and they will test it and replace parts as required. They claim they have a 1% fail rate. Tried them again this morning one now works and the bulb from the otherside works as well so need i resistor pack. Will comfirm with them that its ok to send 1 pack back and no tthe full kit. They expect me to pay postage on the item to return it. Aparently its only a couple of quid but i shouldnt have to pay it. They say they dont cover delivery but then again they do have to cover their warrenty. I will see how quick they work and if happy will let the postage slide.
  10. I bought a set of these in may. One didnt light tonight. By the time i got home the other didnt work either. Have contacted the seller will keep you posted as to what happens. They are listed as having 2 year warrenty. Lets see what happens.
  11. Yep just as i thought. I just had my weekend car valued. Its a 1994 rover coupe turbo. mint condition and i do mean mint tv screens in head rest sat nav fold out screen in front modded slightly (bigger turbo dump valve). they valued it at £220. i could get that for the head unit never mind the car. i run the owners club for these cars in the north west area they sell for 2 k standard. Then again with the mods i have to find someone that wants the mods i have done. Still valued at way less than realistic market value though.
  12. The prices there are offering is a trade price. Very simular to "Glasses Guide" prices for trade purchases. I have worked in the car trade as a mechanic/mot tester for 20 years and for the last 5 years a car dealer. The cost of trade cars is very low firstly because the dealer has to make a living secondly he has to sell any car at least "fit for perpose". If theres a major fault on any car he has to sell on, he has to fix it. We all have heard stories of dealers selling car "no warrenty" or "sold as seen". but in truth any car less than 11 years old has to be sold with minimum 3 month warrenty. As a trader (working in the car trade) i have to warrenty my own car as and when i change vehicle. Any car sold by a dealer more than 11 years old has to be "fit for purpose" as does any other goods bought. If you buy a car and then, within a "reasonable" time i can no longer be driven it isnt fit for perpose and has to be repair or replaced by the dealer. Most second hand car dealers will try to sell you a warrenty when in truth they have to give you one free of charge. The massive loss on trading your car in is just to cover the dealers back should the car become a "bad egg". i personally dont use any "guide prices". i give a price of what i see the car to be worth minus what i see to be a reasonable profit for me usually 200/500 pound per car. 2k a car seems to be a little excesive. There is a big diffrence in car prices up and down the country. A car i buy from auction in sheffield i could resell at my local auction house in manchester the same week for a profit. the wb site you mention doesnt take this into account and just buys cars at a standard rate. Theres two sides to every story i recently got offered a ford ka on a 51 plate 53k miles service history. The owner was only asking £400 for it. It needs a clutch (about £60 in parts) but other than that its mint. should resale for £1500/£1800. what was a supose to do check the owner is of sound mind and body or just give her the money??. There must be lots of people out there selling there cars to this Webuyanycar company their making a profit some how !!
  13. Front fog lights are not part of the mot so you can do with them as you please. Paint them green in you wish. this will make them not fit for road use but will pass an mot. same with the indicators, as long as the light flashes amber doesnt matter how you achieve this as long as its a perminant/good fix.
  14. If you are driving in a lot of countries (France is an example) then you need to carry all your docs and your vehicle's registration docs with you. In the UK there is currently no requirement to do so. In the UK there is a form which the police carry and issue requiring you to show the documents they require, at a police station of your choice within 7 days. I dont think the law states you have to carry your docs with you but then you are supose to produce them when asked to do so. I havent seen one of the forms you mention in years. I used to collect them getting atleast one a week. Now your details are all kept on computer i havnt seen the "hort1" ticket issued for ages. i once got one requesting to see my log book along with insurance and mot. Having red the ticket, the log bok didnt need to be presented within the 7 day time period, just at a time conveniant to me. This was probably 3 years ago i still havnt produced it and dont even own the car any more. So which is it? You say that the forms are no longer needed because everything is "on computer" (I know the forms do still get issued by the way) and then you say that the computer database is not always up to date. You say that you have to produce your full documentation when requested by "an officer of the law" but how can you do this when you agree that it is not compulsory to carry them in your vehicle in the UK? That is why the 7 day "producer" is still around. It isnt law to carry your docs but you are supose to produce them when requested. So sence would say carry them, although its not legal to do so. Its because people dont carry them that the "hort1" ticket was introduced. People carry the plastic part of their liecence but with out the paper part its not a complete document doesnt stop people only carrying the plastic bit though. The police still issue the defect notices. The ticket you get when you have a minor defect on your car and you have to fix it then take your car to a mot station, get the car checked, then get the ticket stamped with the garage embosing stamp. Why do they still issue these tickets ??? since the introduction of computerised mot testing garages were told to destroy the embossing stamp. How the hell do you get the ticket stamped when no garages have the correct stamp. The police work to diffrent laws to mot testing, so some times it makes it impossible to keep within the rules. quick example, the police dont allow the coloured led washer jet lights that were comman a while back. These lights are nothing to do with the mot. As long as a car has one side light each side of the car any other sidelights are nothing to do with the mot. So what i am saying is the law and comman sence are not the same. The rules do not always make sence. You are supose to produce your docs when asked this is the law if you dont carry them then its your fault. A copper can check the data base but this will only confirm that your car is moted and insured doesnt prove its insured for you to drive or you are who you are saying you are though does it. If you can prove who you say you are and the data base says the car is insured for you then fine. If not the copper will issue a "hort1" ticket. Simple thing to do is carry your docs. why not carry them?? if you leave your docs in the car and your car gets stolen they person who nicks the car will have the same problems proving they are legal you had. save yourself the agro of a ticket carry your docs. the law is the law its doesnt always make sence.
  15. Depends how long it take the dvla to update the system. I am currently transfering a plate from one of my cars to my lexus. I curently have a log books saying the same plate is registered to 2 cars. I have this week been out on the road in both cars with the same plate on both cars. Since you are aware that at least one of the cars you drove was displaying incorrect registration plates what was your reasoning behind doing so? Was that not a flagrant breach of the law? Finally someone has got to the crucks of the matter. The fact that dvla give you 14 days to change the plates over theres no reason why i shouldnt drive both cars on the same plate, for a fortnight. At what point do you change the plates?? the day you get the certificate to purchase the actual plastic plate or the day you get the log book back.i changed my plates 2 weeks ago and not had the log book back yet so what plate should i have on what car at this point in time???. The origianal post was about driving a car someone had just bought sill on the old plates. If it was within 2 weeks of the sale then nobody is breaking any law. My first post on this thread still stands as correct. If the new owner of the car bought the car with the plates on rang the insurance company to insure it and the car was still registered with the plates they may well not know they are doing anything wrong. they may well actually think they own the plates. Would be nice to hear from the origianal poster to see whats happened in this case.
  16. You have quoted the expert advice and the law above...if the CPS decide not to prosecute you for the offence then just count yourself lucky. The police, unless things have changed recently, do not prosecute anyone. They merely decide whether or not to pass your case to the CPS for them to decide. Sometimes they decide that it may not be in the public interest to proceed or that there are mitigating circumstances. "lucky for not getting prosecuted" everybody that i speak to says i will be unlucky if i do get prosecuted. So your sticking to the letter of the law??? The diffrence between life and death can be as little as 3 minutes. Three minutes without a breathe can cause brain damage and brain death. Now imagine its your family waiting for the ambulance or the paramedic or even a first aid trained copper. Would you still refuse to move to let the emergancy service vehicle through. Three points and a £60 fine ha ha i would do it again tomorow if this was the sinario.
  17. There isnt any expert advice that makes sence. I have spoken to ROSPA and some other "group of experts" from some casualty reduction group. Both " expert" groups quoted section 219 of the highway code, which as i have posted before is no help at all. Legally what i get told is as follows "a red light means stop" added with " you should never go through a red light for any reason". The only thing i know for certain is the police issued a statement saying i wont be getting charged with anything at this time the statement also thanked me for my assisting the police vehicle. The out line of the statement is what was printed in the press. I personally have recieved nothing from no body of people saying anything, nothing in paper. As far as i am concerned, until I personaly hear one way or the other, its still on going. Lets put it this way,if i get "done" i will be going back to the press making the police look even more silly than they already do in this case.
  18. Are you not supposed to return the V5 to DVLA when you are removing a "cherished registration" to enable a new V5 to be issued for the vehicle in question? As for system update times, Your insurer is legally required to update any policy they issue onto the motor insurance database (ASKMID) within 7 days, although I accept that they don't always do so. I checked the askmid web site last night my cherished plate is currently on the lexus according to them. The original number thats now back on my coupe turbo doesnt show up as anything on any car. I also checked another cherished plate which i know is currently on retention and according to askmid is stll on the car it was taken of 6 weeks ago.
  19. If you are driving in a lot of countries (France is an example) then you need to carry all your docs and your vehicle's registration docs with you. 20. Just a quick point to add. I just ran a check on the askmid web site (link posted above). I put in a number plate that is currently held on retention certificate as a cherished plate. The results came back as a bmw 325 coupe that the plate used to be registered to 6 weeks ago. So their records are wrong and i only checked one vehicle.
  21. I think you will find that an officer of the law can ask you for your full documents and you have to produce them when requested. I have a motor trade policy which staes i dont have to tell the insurance company of what cars i am driving and when, mearly because i would be on the phone 20 times a day. If i buy a car which i intend to keep for more than 7 days i do have to inform them of this. I live in Manchester, which has been mentioned in this thread already, the police do ask for your insurance details if you cant produce them they do tow your car. They dont have to check with your insurance company its not their job to do so. If the computer comes back with a "no insurance" then they tow your car simple as that, having your certificate with you isnt proof it just proves that you did have insurance at some point. Infact if the police let you drive on without proof your insured strickly speaking hes not doing his job Hes asked you for proof of insurance which you didnt satisfy, therefore your not insured and your car should not be allowed on the road with you driving it.
  22. Depends how long it take the dvla to update the system. I am currently transfering a plate from one of my cars to my lexus. I curently have a log books saying the same plate is registered to 2 cars. I have this week been out on the road in both cars with the same plate on both cars. No one stopped me no one bothered me. Why couldnt someone else do the same thing. one of my neighbours bought a car that had wrong number plates on it and wrong chassis numbers to was only when she came to tax it things showed up she drove it for 6 months. ok so the car was stolen and made a clone of another vehicle, but no one noticed i even ordered parts for it using the reg and chassis number. Like i said it depends how quickly the various systems get updated
  23. Well this case still rolls on. The press have been issued a statement from the police saying they will not proceed with the case at this time. The local paper rang me to read out the statement over the phone. I personally have not recieved anything from anyone either the ticket office or the police stating the same. i have filled in the required paper work and returned it to the ticket office as required. They have not replied in anyway shape or form. As far as i am concerned the case rolls on and the solution is still no clearer. I still get quoted section 219 of the highway code which states something along the lines of assisting the police and get out of their way but still conforming to road signs. In English move unless theres a road sign that says dont move. I have had letters from people who have had simular fates as me, one guy got a fine for moving into a bus lane to let an ambulance pass him, the rules need to be clarified or people still wont know what to do
  24. My pal has a 200 sport on a T plate, had it from new his auto locks and folds in the mirrors. Always has done hes never had anything fitting he gets out shuts the door walks away it locks itself and fold mirrors in !!!!. i was wondering if its possible to get my s model to do it.
  25. Just outside city centre Manchester drive is 200 real shinney black one. I am a member of the Rover coupe owners club they have regional sections on the web site, its easier to keep track of who is in your area. I co ordinate the club for the North West section. Just a suggestion but might be good to run same sort of thing on here. The club can then be tailored more to each area i.e what garage, body shop, parts suppliers and so on are in what area.
