  1. Not disputing it is lads just saying my usual suppliers cant get one although only one of them actually list it. Who makes them for Lexus anyone know??? I cant really see the need of having one an the lexus the engine isnt really powerfull enough to actually need one. You should be able to get enough springing into the friction plate therefore not needing a dmf. Will take your words for it. I know there are millions out there on cars so it wouldnt suprise me if Lexus has one just never done one yet on a Lexus and knowing the perpouse of them cant see why one is needed on a Lexus. If a toyota mechanic says they got one then they got one i guess.
  2. Did i say it was comman place all i said was in my experiance i have had problems with supermarket petrol and personally dont use it. I also said that the vauxhall seem to be more prone to it Never said they the only cars. Maybe it was a fluke i never said it happens all the time i have had it in the past and again recently so what ever it is it isnt a problem thats going away. I recently had a vectra that wouldnt start when left over night. After some head scratching and realising that some one else had already played around with it and change the obvious heater plugs and guel fliter, i checked the fuel system for a leak not fuel getting out but air getting in allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank over night. I took the engine top cover of and placed it in the boot where i found 3 empty cans of something called "start you bastrad" this is actually what it was called. It was a kind of easy start. Three empty cans of the bloody stuff and the guy was telling me he had only had the problem a few days. After obviously not getting the full story from the guy i didnt take anything he said for real after that. I finally nailed the problem down to the fuel he was using. It was as thin as tap water black as the ace of spades and stunk like turps. I guessed it was red diesel he had got from some where and had tried to hide the fact it was red. Turns out the guy works at the local train shunting yard so woul dof had access to everything needed to make the concoction in his tank. He told me he was getting it from his local Asda but i didnt belive that for a second. Like i said before all the jobs that i think are down to petrol station fuels i bill the petrol station for and get paid. The jobs that just need the lights turning of i turn off and dont charge (as long as its a regular) As for the people like the vectra owner i am busy next time they ring. If a customer isnt goign to be straight with me why should i give him my time. I been working int he trade for too long to waste time with people who are not straight with me.
  3. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/154...-fuel-bill.html http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=362111 would appear its an on going thing then and not just my area and oh doesnt the second website refer to the afore mentoined vauxhalls :shutit: Funny that after 2 years of this problem i/ my customers are still suffering.
  4. The problem the customer came in with was there engine management light on. When the customer left the light was of and didnt come back on as i am sure if it did they would come back again, no other garage i know of does free diagnostics and resets why would they go else were, besides all of them were regular customers who have been back for routine service and mot since. I wouldnt do a free diagnostic and reset for a stranger i didnt invest £5000 on diagnostic equipment to give it away free Doesnt really matter your opinion of whos fault it is, you did the maths i have towed in 8 cars with problems when filling up. As i mentioned ALL 8 cases were paid for by the PETROL STATION not the customer. On average the bill was £100, i dont know of any petrol station that gives away free repairs and free fuel not unless they know its a problem. I personally use the fuel station with the dodgey bio i know they had in excess off 20 customers all back with the same fault and he paid them all out on my say so i drained the tank on on one car put it in a clear container and showed it him after the first one i did. He poo poo ed the idea of it being his fault until i took him the second one which happened to be owned by a guy he knew. Trust me i have had many more customer filling up with wrong fuel i wouldnt dream of billing a petrol station for that. I can only speak from my experiances which for me show many cases of bad petrol bought from supermarket stations.
  5. I did the led strip conversion on my rover turbo coupe back in May. I didnt check them before i fitted them, when i turned them on one was very white the other had a blue tint to it. Out come the lights again, well one side at least. The seller (on ebay) sent me another strip free of charge so in it went. Less than a month later the end 3 leds in one of the strips started to flash, after about a week the 3 went off all together. Over the next few weeks the leds went out 3 at a time on both side of the car. Currently about 3 work on one side and 9 on the other. I have since disconected them and put normal side lights back in. If you rgoing to buy the led strips make sure you get good quality ones, the ones i bought were ment to be the mutts nuts cost me £25 in May and these were garbage. I didnt bother to contact the seller again as to be honest when i did mine loads of people in my area did them so i dont mind not having mine working now.
  6. Any baby seat will any car. All baby seats are designed to take a 3 point seat belt. I have 5 kids and over the years of having them have had many cars. As long as you folow the fitting instructions you be ok. Had a mini 16 years ago with first born had to put seat belts in that to put the seat in as a 1978 mini didnt have rear belts. JUst be aware that baby seats and front air bags dont mix to well. Some manufactures enable youto turn the passenger side air bag of but not seen this on my model Lexus. Get something sorted out and try not to worry too much you will have enough sleepless night when the little one arrives. Happy days ahead though pal be lucky
  7. the owner has gone away for christmas mate hes booked infor sometime in the new year will post as soon as i get my hands on one. Thats if i can get one only one of my suplliers says it duel mass and they havent got one any way. So still not certain i know there is a dual mass for the lexus i saw a second hand one for sale on ebay the other day but the picture didnt look like a dmf to me.
  8. arm rest didnt cost me nothing at all took from a peugeot 405 i scrapped a few weeks ago. Ok so i lost the rear ash try but i dont smoke and to return it to standard takes about 5 minutes strut top cover had these made out of 3 mm ally. Having some sill plates made up in the same way Have done the headlights black as well and removed the orange from the headlights sure you all seen pics of this conversion before
  9. If these faults were caused by using supermarket fuel then it would be impossible to book your car in to get it checked out without a very long wait. The sheer volume of fuel sold by supermarket forecourts must be phenominal and therefore the number of cars using it must be phenominal also. I can't really believe that you think supermarket fuel is the cause of these faults. It is just as likely that the reason for all the cars in your garage with these faults is that they use the M62. The logical explanation is that it is either coincidence, possibly lack of correct maintenance or just the fact that these items do fail sometimes. you could be right but then seen as i dont change the sensor and the fault doesnt come back would be unlikley that its a faulty sensor. I dont bother to get to the bottom of the problem afterall all the customer wants is his/her light of. All i do is clear the faults and tell them to avoid supermarket fuel if possible. It does also seem to be just the local Tesco where they all go. Could just be that the owners all live near there i dont bother to check where they all live. AS for super markets not having bad fuel i know for a fact some do i have about 200 litres of diesel/petrol mix that was incorrectly put in the wrong tank at the super market. Some one put diesel into petrol tank in the petrol station. About 20 cars broke down before anyone noticed. I personally towed and drained about 5 of them. I have also had some real bad diesel from Morrison petrol station. The tanks had been cleaned and not flushed properly i towed 3 cars with sludge in there fuel tanks. Theres a petrol station near me that sells bio diesel, they mix more thinners ?? with it when the weather turns cold I towed several cars recently that had been filled with bio and the fuel had sludged up in the fuel tanks of the cars. All the above cars were paid for in full by the petrol stations at fault. So there is bad fuel out there and lots of it in my area.
  10. Adjusting the headlights is a simple job. Still probably best to get them done when you have the next mot done, that way the get set properly and even. You can adjust them up and down and left and right. You could just park the car nose in to a wall and set them from the pattern on the wall, but if you get them too low you will just end up setting them back up again to get it through the mot. MOst test stations will probably just set them for you if you just pop in and ask its a 5 minute job that wouldnt charged for at my place
  11. My name on here is my number plate. Yes its from ireland. I have had it for 5/6 years was £300 including transfers. NUmber plates are only worth what someoen is prepared to pay for them and its all a mater of taste. I have had my plate on a few cars over the years i have owned it tbh i think it looks tacky on the Lexus and its for sale on a few web sites. If you just want a cheap dateless plate then look on ebay stay away from obvious names and thing like that even mbz numbers have gone up in price as mercedes owners are starting to buy them. My name is phil lilley the number plate l111eyc was for sale at aprox £300 my wifes name being Clair The number would have been lilley c or pretty close. The same plate with a p wasnt available. A pal of mine called walter has the plate W4LLY on his Aston, 40k it cost him to have wally wrote on his car, you thinking what every one else thinks 40k wally is just about right. Oh be carfull if you get an irish plate like mine fil or oil both are legal but i had so many disagreements withthe police on ow to display the i. Number plates over here cannot be made with an upper case/ capital i as the letter doesnt exsist on english plates it was never issued. You have to have the number 1 put on your plate but then i know this is wrong. I ended up with odd plates when i first got the number I had an f1l 4362 on the front and fil4362 on the back so when i got stopped i could explain to the police what the problem was most of them didnt know the answer. In the end i enquired at dvla who told me it had to be a 1 displayed even though we all new it should be an i. The police have all stopped me at some point now so they all know me and dont bother any more.
  12. shell v power in my lexus doesnt seem to make much of a diffrence, in my modded turbo (rover coupe) i can tell when the first of the fuel hit the fuel rail. bp ultima didnt really do much on either car. Super market petrol for me is a no no. I have had many cars in my garage with engine management lights on ( mainly vauxhall) all showing lambda, oxygen, exhaust (which ever you call it) sensor faults. All have them have super market petrol in comman, usually tesco. I tell the customer to run the tank near empty then come back after filling up at a bp or texeco station. Then i reset the light and tell them supermarket petrol only every 2 tank fulls. I dont charge for the reset and it seems to do te trick. I am pretty sure if the light comes on again they would come back as i hadnt charged them. I was gasping for fuel the other week i hadnt past a fuel station as i was just poping short journeys. Anyway within 2 days of a Tesco fill the engine check light came on, sure enough sensor 1 bank 1. Now i know lexus have a problem with Lambda sensors,or so i believe from this site, so it could be unlucky in my case. Saw a test on a tv program the other week they drained and filled cars 1 with supermarket petrol 1 one bp top stuff 1 on texeco top stuff. They ran the cars for a while to get they fuel running in the systems. They then rolling road tested the cars. The family car class didnt really show much of a diffrence the middle class motor show some improvement in power but the top end stuff (performance wise) showed the most improvement. Cant rememeber if it was texeco stuff or bp that came out ontop but certainly showed most improvement in high performance motors.
  13. I got the led tail lights ormi not doing anything with them. I wiring up the fog to brake/side lights. I have seen your done i think the same way. I have the origianal rear lights so have the twin element bulb holders from them to use. By the way love the puddle lights have ordered 2x2 foot neon tubes in white to try same job. May put a shroud over them to only light the bit of the road i want to light. will wire them up and see how they look if i dont like it i can use them as down lights in the boot. I have some ally front strut tops made just round discs of ally with Lexus cut through them. They be going on tomoz Will post pics if i can find a picture hosting site suitable (currently got the pics on photo bucket but not suitable for this web site i am told) also have some door sill covers made in same way on order also my ally guy has told me recently that he has some 2.25 ally pipe and a big pipe bender and a tig set so i may even have a go at an induction kit. No work for me now until tuesday so may as well get some bits done keep me out of trouble and otu of the wifes way. :shutit:
  14. Well you both out done me i didnt get any stuff for car at all. However i did get a wrap around velcro towel with my name embroiderd on it. My wife says its for when i go to the gym so i can wrap it around me while i get changed so as to not expose myself, "the velcor will keep it closed" she says. Ye rights its only about a foot long looks like i bloody mini shirt, and how does she think i been managing for the last 2 years at the gym. As for the mongram lol cant make out if she serious or its one of them thought about it then decided to not really bother prezzies
  15. I wasnt aware that the car had an oil level light either. If its the red light looks like an oil can then you have no oil presure. If it is the red light then i would get it loked at asap and not drive it too much, after all its a warning light to say you have NO oil pressure.
  16. Dam i should have noticed that your right Rob its does actually say 215f. Good job when i put them back togehter i did only put them in at 100C and even that softened up the glue real quick (about 5 mins) enough to squeeze the lenze back on anyway. Yes i did use body shop grade paint, i got it from my body shop suplier that we get all our paints from. They will supply paint in an aerosol can and even tint it to match paint fade from the sun. Lets just say it was £16 for a can of black and a can of etch primer. So its better be good bloody grade paint, it didnt even smell when i sprayed it. I believe the bodyshop now uses water based paint ??? although i could be wrong i let them do my painting usually but a little job like headlights i dont mind.
  17. Now the bloody turkey is out of the oven i thought i would get my headlights in and get the chrome and the orange gone. I have read nearly all of the posts on how to do it all are sound advice. Theres even a video on it i watched. So job done today, just a note to be aware of, the vidoe says 215 degrees for 15 minutes. I have a fan oven and after 5 minutes the head lights started to melt. Luckily i was sat by the oven door like an expectant farther and thanks to the glass door i noticed and pulled them out quick. My advice would be Check check and check again. The second headlight took about 2 minutes to cook enough to pull the lenze of. While the oven was on i baked the paint as i put each coat on 2 coats of etch primer and then 3 coats of satin black was like a convayer belt in and out. Superb mod imo makes the car look more agresive. Just out of interest am i the oldest guy doing mods on here i am 38 and still playing. back lights tomorow fogs to brakes and side lights.
  18. Mines down 147k i got it with no service history its still drives tight. My pal has a sport his has covered 145k and only has it looked at when something goes wrong never has it serviced just the odd set of plugs if its misfires and the odd oil change usualy at mot time. his feels a little harder than mine but then his is the sport so would expect it. Did you say the oil presure light is on until it warms up after a short drive? personally i wouldnt drive anywhere with oil light on. Get it looked at and if you bought it from a dealer then take it back if you have doubts its got a warenty dont be affraid to complain
  19. http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/ llok on there put your postcode in. Gives garages nearest your house. All garages have a feedback score from genuine customers which you can read (just like feedback on ebay) You can search by make of car nearest your house stuff like that. My garage is a member of the scheme but i not telling you which garage that would be advertising. The site works though you can read as much feedback as you like and as the feeback cards get sent to the web site not the garage they cant be tampered with or changed.
  20. Error code 3 again time for new unit. Have ordered a facia plate. Bypass lead needed or not. My car has the unit out of a "s" model in it curently so i believe it doesnt have an amp therefore would presume i wouldnt need a bypass lead, no amp no need to bypass it. I have read all the threads and post non seem to be conclusive as to if i need one or not. Also has any one got a lead that isnt the problematic auto lead that everyone is struggling with. Most of the threads seem to use a certain lead that is then problematic. Better still anyone have a wiring diagram for the stereo loom can work out the wiring and bypass it myself. Hoping to get the stereo out and new one in quickly so dont really want to have to pull it out and leave it out while i get a lead
  21. The law and the mot work on 2 diffrent sets of rules mate. No reason at all why a set of hids wont pass an mot. The only downside of hids is they send light downwards that bounces up in the headlight and gives a fuzzy top line when checking them on a beam setter (for the mot). I checked mine when i did them they have a lot hotter hot spot but not as crisp a pattern. I believe there is now a new type of bulb which has a shield under the bulb that sorts out the problem that isnt really a problem. They do give of a little glare i just adjudted them down a bit to stop the glare i not had anyone complain.
  22. how long you had them Ormi. have you still got the listing number or the name of seller. I had a poke around on ebay they all seem to be the ones that go inside the window.
  23. I recnetly fitted a simular pipe to an aristo and had to drop the steering rack of.I didnt take ot of compleatly just undid the mounting brackets and slide it out from the front sub frame and left it hanging on the steering arms. The aristo is a turbo model so wont be the same as is300 but might be easier to remove rack like i did was only 3 bolts.
  24. I simply fitted a bigger watt 501 bulb. It has a bigger dome and you have to remove the cage from over it but its very bright. Will get the bulb number if anyone wants it. It does leave the bulb exposed without the cage but if anything in your boot is going to hit it and break it i dont think the cage would stop it anyway.
  25. Well i went out last night did a spot of green laning. I tried the system on and off. At one point i got stuck really stuck, snow on and traction on, the engine bogged down and yes it did stall, but only because of my inabilaty to press the clutch before i realised i had vertually no revs on. I was in very deep snow going down the hill was fine but when i turned up hill i was stuck. The front wheels got stuck against the snow it was like rolling the wheels up against a curb then trying to get up it. With the trc of it just spun and spun, with the trc on it limited the revs and gave some grip but not enough to ride the car upthe small snow bank infront of my wheels. In the end i managed to reverse back and get some momentum and get ferther up the lane. At the top of the lane is a drainage ditch across the path i failed to hit this with enough speed to get through it. The ditch allows water to cross the road and is pretty deep now so my rear wheels got stuck in it. No matter what i did trc on snow on both of didnt matter i wasnt getting out. At no point did the trc cut my car out. It was like trying to pull away with the hand brake on. Wasnt the trc killing the engine was the lack of forward motion with the limited power that stalled it. So i guess in a round about kind of way the trc limiting the power caused the stall but in reality i was the cars lack of movement that caused the stall. I was getting grip with the trc and snow on just not enough to get me out of the ditch. I got my tow truck out and yes got that stuck to, ended up ringing a pal/customer who wons a new Rangerover discovery 3 the big ***** v6 diesel one. You know the one i take the mick out of him for owning. So after a big slice of humble pie and a real short tow rope ( 2 ton rope snapped twice) he got my tow truck and then me out. So after a well and trully tested session i still stand by what i said, in real deep deep trouble the engine may stall but not because the trc stalled it. If you dont apply enough power to pull away then the engine will stall just like we all probably did on our driving lessons, the trc system restrics the power but initself will not stall the enigine its not connected to the spark or fuel systems to cannot shut the engine of. If you drive slowly enough and smoothly enogh you dont need any electronic aids i drive safely enough in my older cars that dont have any driver aids at all. i know one thing for sure if i have driver aids i know i will be using them. For people that dont think the electrics work ask the drift guys or try getting sideways yourself. Its a hell of alot easier with the electrics off.
