  1. I have a 2000 MkIV I bought mine with 134k and I've put another 50k on her. Still drives as good now as then. Confirm all keys are working! Check the a/c, if it doesn't run cold, it may not be just a re-charge, a new condenser and/or pump can soon add up! Boot seals as above. If you find signs of damp, check the compartments either side, which contain the SatNav and the phone wiring. Check the SatNav discs. Always good to have a recent set (incl Europe). Falken Tyres are £95 a corner so consider the tread. Bonnet struts should do their job. My drivers wing mirror notches outwards every time I turn the key, but I may be "special" ;-) 2 cambelt stickers suggest she has been looked after. Best of luck
  2. Possibly the door ECU? When I had my wiring damage from water, I lost the memory functions in the drivers door. As Titch says try putting the steering wheel into position, along with the seat and store into memory. Does it respond correctly? ps I have a complete set of "used" ECU's for the LS400 if anyone is in need.
  3. If you do go for it the steering tilt seems an easy fix. Although a spacer rather than zip tie would be my choice...
  4. 2000 Mk4 182k Drivers door mirror keeps moving slightly out of alignment (each time I turn the key) - how do I reset the door ECU? Poor workmanship of replacement screen allowed water into multi plug under dash. All sorts of electrical dramas! After much investigation, re-made plug. Windscreen wash empty light: living with it. Alloys need refurb, slow pressure loss on one corner. Brilliant car all round.
  5. My Mk IV does exactly the same. Any further info or success with the ECU reset?
  6. Lexus for life. =. They last a lifetime. and Nothing compares. (Don't fight it)
  7. My alarm going off heralded water in a loom plug at the bottom of the windscreen. There's a transmitter on a building at North Cheam which completely flummoxes Scorpion alarms. After much head scratching and phone calls, I had to push the car 300yds..... Started fine! There's a great restaurant there and stupidly did exactly the same thing a few months later!
  8. Pulled the belt out fully, and sprayed both sides liberally to roughly the point where the belt returns inside the doorpost Ran it in and out about 10 times, it immediately ran and retracted much better. Driven twice (with swmbo) with no problem of residue.
  9. Surprised if it made the asking price, but interesting at only 35k. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C303745# This one only 12k miles ;-) http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/superb-lexus-400-saloon/1004034274
  10. Interestingly the US schedule just gives 6, 12 and 24 monthly tasks once 60k has been covered. There appears very little to do but inspect certain things to evaluate for timely replacement/repair. If you are able to do these things yourself and you don't expect to need FLSH it seems easy enough. Other than an A1 valet, it comes down to an experienced Lexus inspection for future/impending expense. 6 monthly: Replace oil & filter, rotate tyres 12 monthly: Replace AC filter, grease prop shaft. 24 monthly: Replace brake fluid and engine coolant, air cleaner filter. Surprisingly simple? Their recommendation for timing belt is 90k then every 72 months.... This puts the cat amongst the pigeons! http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=8466 (You may need to log in again)
  11. Had a problem with the condenser when I first got mine. Road grit had hit the bottom and caused seepage. Easily seen thanks to the green dye. Got a decent one cheap from a breakers.
  12. Did mine too. Halfords own silicon spray £3.99. Wife's side didn't retract very well, and she has slammed the door too soon, denting the door panel. *itch! Now perfect. Zips in very smoothly now. Have done the window rubbers to ease the electric motors, and will get it on the boot seal, and moonroof seals soon too! Thanks for the tip.
  13. Wasn't someone recently successful in breaking into the CD cartridge feed, with a switch and aux jack lead or socket? Everything fitted into the slot at the top of the CD glovebox..incl the Ipod. What is that slot for btw? Cassettes dont fit there...
  14. I too am interested in this topic, as unless you can find a W Reg 400 with 60k, there will come a time when the move to a 430 is financially sensible. Its just a pity it looks like an old friend who's broken their nose! Just braved Lexus Guildford for my first dealer service. ("A" service, quoted at £415 incl VAT). Courtesy car was a CT200h (I wont be swapping). On collection I was very happy with a bill for £330, which included a full service, fluids, etc, pollen filter, blade rubbers, indicator bulb and an amazing valet throughout. The thorough breakdown of likely upcoming problems suggest she has a few more inexpensive years before the undercarriage requires investment, Happy days!
  15. £906.... didn't make the reserve - worth the risk? Ex MOD would mean quite a good service record, even if not civvy documented wouldn't it?

  17. Mmmmm - not sure I'd do this with mine, but they're highly polished! http://www.clublexus...med-thread.html
  18. I thought that the CD was Pioneer and the tape deck was Nakamichi. Am I wrong? My 2000 Mk IV sounds fantastic. It has the round knobs, also the ASL (auto sound levelizer p86 of the Nav Handbook) button on the touch screen. Great comparison review here: http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/cadillac-sts-vs-bmw-740il-vs-lexus-ls400-comparison-tests
  19. Problem now solved thanks to Stuart at Toyoda Tech, Hampshire, and Maurice (Benfur). The electrical faults have all been caused by water ingress into a connector deep within the dashboard loom. Removing/repairing this section has cleared all the shorts, immobiliser/remote problems, and also the front right indicator/head lamp faults. When I collect the car I will discover if the steering wheel positioning, seat memory and wing mirror niggles are also corrected. It appears that the body ECU was getting signals that the doors were momentarily closed then open, This was also causing the key barrel to transmit fluctuating signals. The windscreen has been replaced by a previous owner with a non Lexus screen and no windshield moulding was fitted. This is the likely cause of the water getting behind the dash. There is an 8" crack in the tax disc area, so I will need to replace the screen soon, this time I'll make sure of a proper job with new moulding! She sailed through an MOT yesterday with no advisories. Very happy! I have all the ECU's and relays from a MkIII/MkV if anyone is interested.
  20. Doesnt the clock get its information from the Satellite too? Could this be a loose connection between the satelite reciever and the antenna fitted behind it under the dash?
  21. My 2000 Mk 4 had its belt changed at 103k. Not expecting to change then until 250k Cheers
  22. OK, after a day of no rain, the short which meant the ignition was permanently on (ACC) has gone. I jumped it from another car, 6 minutes in ACC then OFF, the security light extinguished and she started, a little lumpy for the first minute, but then fine. I still suspect the windscreen. On closer inspection there are quite large gaps in the upper corners, and the plastic seal is slightly raised above both seats. This must lead to some rust/decay in the bodywork surrounding the screen. I have installed some rubber tape temporarily to see if this confirms my theory. I wonder wether it is worth having the windscreen removed and re-installed with new rubber. Having inspected the area in the drivers footwell, everything has been dry throughout. The remote lock/boot release is still inop so this adds to the belief in leaky screen as I believe the alarm/immobiliser ECU is behind the console at the top centre of the dash, and water could easily be tracking into that area. I bought a complete set of ECU's from Ebay for £20, but realise it is not an easy job to simply swap out the ECU for key/security. Clearing out the sunroof drains is todays task....
  23. Had an auto electric guy look at it, he wasn't hopeful! He initially thought the alternator may have shorted, but quickly discounted that... It appears that the ignition is permanently on, even with the key removed..... He removed the ECU B fuse but this didn't kill the dashboard illuminations. Obviously the immobiliser has kicked in, and although it turns over fine, the security light doesn't extinguish. The alarm went off in the early morning a few weeks ago, and since then the remote lock and boot release haven't worked. The wash liquid low light came on, and after topping up, wouldn't then go out. Then front left indicator bulb blew... As I said I had a few drops of water come down above the steering wheel a few weeks ago and close inspection shows the windscreen seal very slightly raised above the driving position. Could this have tracked down to the area above the throttle pedal where I presume the ECU is? The fuse box under the bonnet seems dry, although the bolt at the back left rail is pretty corroded, the tech didn't want to force it as he thought it might shear. Where exactly are the drains? Cheers
